B ut if we speak from the australopitechus who appeared (appeared is a quied odd word in fact...) from who the earliest fossil found is little older than 4 millions years old, wich make millions of years before the apparition of Homo Erectus around 2.5 millions years ago, wich still make millions of years ;) And of corse, chimps wouldn't become new humans... but did really nobody realized that I was being sarcastic in my other post and I was being using metaphores to express an opinion?

Well, who says that you are born as a manchurian noblemen? Maybe you will be born to become a Eunuch ;)
I am happy as it is, but if I had the chance to time travel I would travel to Edo Period Japan. Probably the only way to not die a death by warfare or disease.

Besides, power was also shared with the council, the elders, and the warchiefs, so once again, being a hereditary chief was more about representing the will of your people rather than being something of an absolute monarch (in the case of my own ancestors, anyways).
Of course, the role of chief wasn't always hereditary in present-day Canada, nor was it the only hereditary position in many cases. After all, Canada is a huuuuuuge place, spanning across 1/3 to 1/2 of a huuuuuuge continent, and the countless cultures vary... alot. This should probably be taken into account, since we live half-way across the continent from each other, my Algonquin brother. :laugh4:
Ehhh... most band societies develop into tribal societies with hereditary positions developing especially as it moves towards chiefdoms then kingdoms. How do you think the European, etc nobility developed. It it quite evident in Danish history how chieftains and warlords grew into nobility ruled by a king merely marginally more powerful.
I would chose to live now, would like to take my experience and self-confidence and reel time back 25 years while keeping that (keep your daughters safe), and being a heroic Viking Warlord seems nice as a dream. However, the diseases, squalor, etc would probably not be so fun...

Don't forget universal healthcare, wooooh! That stuff saved my life way back; no way in heck my poor family could have afforded me. Today's society is much superior than yesterday's, and is only getting better.

Only for some people in some countries... in some regions (specially in the African continent) people live crowded in huge cities with worse health conditions than those of the Middle Ages.

People need to urbanise more and create sustainable, liveable communities unless they want to see this Earth wither away.

I'd actually want to witness the future instead of the past...perhaps The Great Crusades. I want to witness the reconquista of the universe, led by the Emperor.

I think Meth was referring negatively to European treatment of Native Americans. Very Understandable.

No. I'd bring back some disease inoculations. That's all they'd need to prevent centuries of conquest, genocide, displacement and everything that has to do with humanity's most shameful case of colonialism.

And antibiotics  in case the disease got a mutation...
but don't forget to bring some pen and papers.... and start writing your constitution, and made yourself king of America... (or whatever name you choose, Methusica or whatever). Ah yes, teach your people to cast some cannons, and when Colombus try to land, greet em with a salvo or two... (surely, they'll never back)

Why? I am already descended from a long line of hereditary chiefs that weren't stripped of their titles until the Indian Act.

If foreign diseases won't be taking out some 90% of the overall population, they won't need my military knowledge.

You'll need the cannons for the coup'd etat... because your ancestors most won't believe in your story easily, and you must doing some necessary fight...
Afterall, who'll believe that their mighty civilization got ruined in no more than half a millenia, just because some meddlesome immigrants?

Re: What age would you choose to live?
A couple cannons won't help. They'll run me down like a dog, scalp me, skin me, and tie me up to suffer and dry in the prairie sun.

I'm quite sure they never see a shotgun before...
Not only mindless savages will fear shotgun, but I'm sure that even the brightest Hellenes, Medieval Knights, Persian Scholars, or even anyone before guns was invented, will be shocked...

I only want to give him some advice how to use Psychological warfare, and mount a coup d'etat to his ancestor's rule.... (NOTE: I will do the same thing when I arrive in the very beginning in Nurhaci's reign... but using machine guns and mow those horse archers down to show them... who's the boss)

seconded (with all the relative context that this post implies)!!!
No need of cannon, wolf! only mistake Native did back in 1492, is that they were friendly with the handful of europeans that came in Antilla, and letted colombus go back to tell what he saw... Then, another mistake made by natives, in 1534, where my people lived (border of Saint Lawrence river, near the present site of montreal) is that they welcomed friendly Jacques Cartier, even leted him make an outpost for his colonist! yes... LETTED him do so, because don't forget, that, back then Native weren't dealing with english and french armies, but only with crew member of a pittyful expedition. Then, with Samuel de Champlain, Algonquin people allied with the french to help fight the Iroquois and English... but anyway... fact is that what destroyed the First Nations, before sickness, was friendship, was generosity. then, sickness and european greed effectivly cleared the path for european dominance in americas... now, just for the fun of it... imagine that, back in 1492, Colombus and his remaining 30 or so crew, would have been killed, and never got back to spain to tell the crown (who already didn't believed he'd make it back) what he saw... History MAY have been VERY different...
@Satalexton : We never shall forget who are the TRUE Barbaroi ;)
