Don't want to throw cold water on the levity, but apparently the victim has suffered a minor heart attack after one of the pellets got into his heart. Poor guy.
According to his doctor Harry Whittington is sitting upright, eating solid food and wondering what all the 'hoopla' is about. Apparently even Cheney's own buddies are getting used to friendly fire...Quote:

As an issue, its...not. Dumb hunting accident with a less than lethal result (Thank God). Do the investigation and level charges when/if relevant.
However, the Bush admininstration (and Cheney in particular) are paying the price for their general relationship with the press. The 4th estate is collectively ticked at the Bush team because the Bush team generally prefers to reveal nothing about the White House canteen breakfast menu and even less than that on key issues like who's ordering the most paperclips.
In other words, the Bush administration tries to say nothing about anything substantive unless its fait accompli or it has been public knowledge for a while. Their relationship with the Press is antagonistic at best. The Press corps, at least somewhat understandably, loathes this approach to media relations and is more than willing to take its shots at any opportunity.
Just think, with only a little more effort the USA can be just as politically viscious and polarized as it was at the end of the 18th century....right about the same time the least sitting VP shot someone (BTW, a little reading on the Adams v Jefferson era of American politics is instructive -- the current "split" is nowhere near as mean as it was then).
If there were any lingering doubts about Fox serving as the "Mommy" network for the Bush administration, those doubts were laid to rest when Cheney went to that network (and only that network) to take softball questions from Brit Hume. The scramble to paint Cheney - the shooter - as the traumatized victim of what he called "one of the worst days of my life" knows no bounds.

Im certain it had nothing to do with FNC having a far larger audience than any other news outlet.... nope, nothing at all. :idea2:
I'm curious though, if Hume was pitching softballs, what questions do you think he should've asked but didnt? Did you even watch the interview?
My questions: Were any actual quail actually 'bagged'? How many? In other words, was the mission accomplished, despite the collateral damage? And if quail were killed in the making of this drama, how were they prepared? Roasted? Grilled? Smothered? http://www.hugs.org/Smothered_Quail.shtml
And: Did ex-VP Dan Quayle ever hunt quail? How did he do?
VP Cheney has to be thinking: "Man... stick your head out of your secure, undisclosed location for a minute, and all hell breaks loose. Back to the Batcave, Alfred."
i did watch it. twice.Quote:

...
Whittington thanked the hospital staff. He also said he was sorry for all the difficulty the vice president and his family had faced. He said the past weekend encompassed ''a cloud of misfortune and sadness.''
''My family and I are are deeply sorry for everything that Vice President cheney and his family had to go through this week,'' Whittington said, appearing emotional in front of television cameras.
So the intelligent choice for Cheney would have been to do an interview with Gregory so that he could be certain to be put in a bad light with every question?.....:inquisitive: Maybe with O'Reilly, who is pretty ecumenical in his mistreatment of guests....
Fox News a solidly slanted toward the right, in contrast to the other 3 networks which are....scrupulously neutral in editorial tone... The WSJ is slanted pro-business and FNC is slanted politically right...so this means they should be closed down?....:inquisitive:
Overall Soly, I'm pretty much responding to you with a hearty
"Yeah. So?"
Did any of you catch the second part of the interview the other night? Hume introduced it and it was Jimmy Kimmels parody of Cheney singing a song about the whole thing with shots of Hume as if he were there interviewing him. Really funny stuff.
PS Cheney prefers one on one interviews. Hes also done them with Russert.
Jon Stewart of Comedy Central's "Daily Show" showed a color-coded threat level chart like that used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, saying that, based on lawyer Harry Whittington's heart attack, "we're going to downgrade the condition of the story from 'Incredibly Hilarious' to 'Still funny, but, mmm, now a little sad.'
