Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
Sorry guys, I owe you an apology as to my dropping off the face of the Earth.
My grandmother friday had a minor accident in Setubal, and she is practically alone there. I was contacted by the hospital, and since of my familly, I'm the closest person to her in distance, I left in a rush without saying anything to anyone. Since she is elderly, I remained with her in Setubal for the weekend, and I just returned now. I would have remained longer with her, but tomorrow I got a test, thus why I came sooner.

The simplified version of what happened during Day 3:
Final Tally:
Paulus Tertius (4) - Sprig, ATPG, Joooray, FH
Faction Heir (2) - Yaropolk, Beskar
Abstain (1) - DiY
Advisors argue, Cao Cao stands up calls Xun Yu, berates him for being unloyal, etc, etc. Orders him to be executed.
Guards take out Xun Yu, Xun Yu protests his innocence, he dies.
Advisors go back to their tents, Cao Cao sits thinking Xun Yu was one of his greatest advisors but apparently since Sprig had uncovered bad a conspiracy in the brewing, then he accepted the council's decision reluctantly.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
Thank you guys for the recovery wishes. It wasn't nothing too serious, but unfortunately the major problem is that my grandmother has Parkinson's which severely restrains her movement, which partially caused the accident. Regardless, she is well-enough now.
Beskar is right. It is Night 4.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
The Red Phoenix - Night 4
After Xun Yu had died, the advisors went to their daily duties, inspecting the armies and drilling the soldiers. Once night had fallen once again, the patrols were more light than in the previous two nights, phreaps since Cao Cao had noticed that they were barely doing anything useful. As such, at the second watch, someone had considerably more easiness going through the camp unseen until he came towards the tent of Askthepizzaguy. The person knew that despite the patrols being more scarce, all tent guards had been diven strict orders to remain guarding the tent under any circumstance. The usual ploys to distract them wouldn't thus work.
Meditating for some minutes on what to do, he decided the only chance he'd have would be to unusually bold, as doing so, he went back to his tent, changed clothes to more soldierly ones, donned his armor and helm, but removed any signs that would indicate him as a major officer. Afterwards he quickly forged a small order on paper using Cao Cao's writing. Having achieved these things, he went back to the tent and presented the guards the document to allow him to enter as he had urgent business to consult with Askthepizzaguy at night. The guards closely looked at the order, and appeared to have been done in some fine paper, with Cao Cao's caligraphy, they allowed the assailant passage. The attacker approached silently to a sleeping ATPG, unsheathing his dagger. As he went for the kill, he heard a voice from the shadows, in one side of the tent which was completely dark "Now what do we have here? Are you attempting to murder an high minister of the State?" By then the attacker was taken completely aback, even more so, as Askthepizzaguy turned from his bed and rose as active and awaken as it was still day, and the figure that sprung out of the shadows was none other than the fearful Xu Chu, Cao Cao's personal bodyguard.
Quaking in fear, his helm fell, but by then he was already on the run, cutting through the tent with his dagger. Xu Chu thought during the glimpse he had at the attackers face spotted phreaps Pang Tong, but he couldn't be sure as it happened too fast. Regardless, Xu Chu followed hot on his pursuit as Askthepizzaguy called the guards to aid the bodyguard.
The guards quickly sprung into alert mode and shouted that an intruder had been found, and went after Xu Chu and the attacker. Xu Chu, obviously much more fit than the attacker, was quickly upon him, until the attacker turned into a tent and vanished momentarily. Still with the adrenaline rushing through his body, soon enough the soldiers which were following him called that they spotted the attacker escaping through a hole dug beneath that tent, and thus the pursuit was back on. Strangely enough, the guards soon spotted another intruder which had also been sighted around where the attacker came from, and the guards went after him, thus leaving Xu Chu alone persuing the attacker.
Xu Chu quickly began catching up to the attacker, when he went into a side entrance of the inner-courtyard armory. Xu Chu knew there was only one way in and no way through, because the armory was not made of cuttable cloth but of wood. As he reached the door and came to a complete halt before looking into the armory which was completely dark, Xu Chu knew he had the attacker trapped and with no way out. Pang Tong too knew he had been trapped as he was hiding behind a crate with weapons, in the darkness of the building. He tried to calm himself down so his heavy breath wouldn't allow Xu Chu to know where or if he was there, but peeking over the crate towards the entrance, he could only see Xu Chu grin towards the darkness, and he knew Xu Chu wouldn't move from there until someone came with torches to light the room up and finally catch him. Young Phoenix began realizing he was going to meet his end that night and that his plans had come to naught.
However the Heavens would not let it be so.
As Xu Chu stood grinning at the armory's entrance, soldiers from elsewhere called Xu Chu for help as they had spotted the attacker and he was escaping. "Phreaps the attacker had already opened a passage from the armory and had already escaped as I stood here looking towards the darkness? What a fool I am." thought Xu Chu. Thus Xu Chu began getting doubts if Pang Tong was there, so he abandoned the entrance of the armory to go help the guards with the sighted man. Once he had reached the guards, they reported the man had evaded them and disapeared. But that second man was not Pang Tong.
Pang Tong couldn't believe as Xu Chu left the armory and ran off elsewhere. He then quickly reached the armory entrance and probed around, seeing nobody. "Thank you Heavens!" Prayed Pang Tong, while gasping heavily from his near-capture. He then presently went back to his tent.
Half hour later the entire camp was under full alert for the 4th consecutive night, and all reported back to Cao Cao as to the events of tonight. Cao Cao congratulated Xu Chu exceedingly for predicting who would the rebellious advisors attack this night gave him plenty of gifts in pearls and gold. Xu Chu refused it all on the grounds that they were in a campaign, and it was only the proper duty of any servant of the Prime Minister to combat rebellion and the murder of high officials anywhere. Xu Chu decided not to tell his Lord that he thought the man behind it was Pang Tong, as he wasn't certain he had seen him, and it could have been someone else. Cao Cao himself was rather distressed at the second intruder which was also lost, but regardless, the very next day he called his council and bade them "This last night, my friend Xu Chu has foiled a murder of our friend Askthepizzaguy. Furthermore, another person was found snooping around near the ATPG's tent where the assassination occurred. Now gentlemen, let us find who was behind the foiled attack.
The advisors looked sideways to one another, certain that at least three of the 9 had been active, including General Xu Chu.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
The Red Phoenix - Day 4
As the day came and the body of Cao Cao's advisors reconvened a second time, Death is Yonder's new found hope after escaping last night was bluntly terminated. In Short time notice, Sprig claimed forth and said he was one of the man spotted last night, and that he investigated Pang Tong, finding him trying to assassinate Askthepizzaguy. Cao Cao expression became obdurate after this revelation and eyed Pang Tong fiercely. One could notice he was doing his very best to not raise from his chair and cut off Pang Tong where he stood. In light of this new information, all the advisors nodded and quickly argued for the killing of Pang Tong. That done, Cao Cao ordered his advisors to take a break as there was little fighting and arguing in this day. The advisors went out and once they came in, there was a curious incident as both Faction Heir and Yaropolk claimed to being the hero Xu Chu, which has stopped Pang Tong's attack. This incident confused Cao Cao greatly, but later once the approppriate time had arrived, the veredict was thus given. "Guards, put Pang Tong to death and let us be done with it."The guards presently hussled Pang Tong out, and Pang Tong said little as he knew there was little chance for him in face of overwhelming council backing for his execution. Thus once outside the tent, the lictors beheaded Pang Tong and showed his head round the camp.
As of then, Zhou Yu's plan had utterly failed, now Wu's fleet could no longer easily attack Cao Cao's fleet with fire and the ships would be unchained, and an attack of Cao Cao would be quite possibly victorious. Still, a great many advisors had been lost so far, and many of them could aid Cao Cao with great strategies to defeat Sun Quan. Without their aid, Cao Cao himself grew undecisive.
Soon enough, Cao Cao dismissed the advisors and each men went to their daily duty until night came once again. Could it be that the menace had gone or the threat still loomed threatening Cao Cao's close advisors. As Cao Cao layed down to sleep, he gulped with difficulty. At the very least, he knew he was safe since he had the entire Tiger Guards Corps, the best soldiers of the best soldiers, protecting him.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
The Red Phoenix - Night 5
As the moon won over the sun in orderly fashion and took its place in the Heavens, the advisors retreated to their tents and began resting from their stressful day (And previous night too!), someone was still very active. As soon as night fell, two men left their tents quietly and, avoiding the usual patrols, met in the vincinity of Faction Heir's tent. Knowing full well the problem Faction Heir might be, they had joined forces to take on what they predicted would be a great problem towards their plans. After debating briefly what they would do to overcome the guards, the most clever of both quickly made a suggestion "Let us do so and so." his companion nodded profoundedly and both set out. They approached both guards posted at the entrance of the tent simultaneously and quickly grabbed them and cut their throats in similar fashion, thus the immediate problem of raising an alarm and getting to Faction Heir had been overcome.
Both entered quietly into the tent and it appeared that Xu Chu lay asleep in his bed, covered by a wool blanket and furthermore he snored louder than dogs barked. The companions could only grin to each other. Fortunately, Xu Chu had not set out to protect someone else this night. As they made their way to stab FactionHeir, they were shocked to see him jump from his bed quickly, fully clad in armor and carrying a trusty sword already in hand. He laughed and said "So you expected to catch me off-guard? However clever you lot might be, you will never outsmart me!" The sentence said, he quickly called for his trusty guards, which came not as they were dead. Undeterred, as he knew he was handling people unskilled in combat he jumped towards them with the intention of striking them down. The original attackers however, became horrified at the terrible sight, and were put to flight but not before Xu Chu managed to grab one of them by the cloak and partially stroke his helm removing it. His companion found the courage to help his trapped fellow and proceeded to try and chop off Faction Heir's hand which held tight to one of the attacker's cloak. While he stroke not the hand, he managed to cut off the cloak so that the trapped attacker ripped the rest of through sheer force in trying to free himself. Faction Heir persued them out of his tent, which was when both men split off in different directions. Faction Heir stopped to think on who to persue, but those few seconds proved to be too many as once he had decided on who to persue, both his attackers were already too far away and vanished into the depth of the courtyards.
Soon Xu Chu set about to fix what just happened without creating much of the ruckus of the previous nights. He called soldiers on patrol to bury his guards, sent for some of the Tiger Guards to guard his tent, and summonned a courrier to quietly give the news to Cao Cao.
A new day being born, the advisors were summonned once again to Cao Cao's tent, where they were briefed on what had happened. The majority showed signs of shock, as most had expected the mutiny to be over, as they had had a quiet evening and good nice rest. They were even more shocked to see the attack perpretrated against Faction Heir had been committed by two men. Cao Cao at once called his advisors to find out the culprits and expose them for the rebellious rats that they were.
Day 5 orders are due in 10 PM GMT / 5 PM EST, 29th of November.

Ok what? I’m not sure what is going on here? But there is obviously some confusion. If I didn't know that FactionHeir was a confirmed innocent, I would have thought he was trying to frame a detective.
Why on earth would I attack you? I brought forth the traitors Pang Tong and Xun Yu. What would I have to gain… :(
Also I spoke out against Xu Zhu revealing himself. Surely if I was mafia I would want to know who he was.
But in anycase, I was there last night since I had chosen FactionHeir for Investigation. It was Yaropolk’s post and cryptic PM that lead me to investigate FactionHeir.
I wonder if you were setting me up? FOS: Yaropolk.

Sounds fair, though from the write-up it seems clear to me, that two people attacked him. I can't really see any concieveable way that he is a mafia though.
I will make clear that I got no result from my investigation since it was foiled by the assassination attempt. But if he was mafia, He would have to be seperate from those that attacked him and also would make the mafia to innocent ratio rather unbalanced...
-
Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
The writeup made it clear, the two killers worked in concert. I didn't PM anything suspicious to Sprig. In fact I let him know that I wasn't Xu Zhu, and that I said it to take heat off FH. In retrospect it was a mistake to tell this to Sprig, as he knew who to attack.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
The Red Phoenix - Day 5
Once again, there was little discussion as a member of the council stepped forward with relevant information of the previous night. This time it was Faction Heir, none other than the same man attacked the night before. He came forward and accused the young prodigy Sprig, who had previously and accused and successfully convinced the council of the dubious intentions of Xun Yu and Pang Tong.
Faction Heir said that in the battle last night, he had managed to remove Sima Yi's helmet, therefore revealing his face. The council quickly nodded and accepted the attacked man's accusation. Sima Yi was quickly pushed into the same position as he had pushed Pang Tong into, last day. Yet he tried to convince the council of his innocence, relating his previous deeds, so quickly forgotten by the council, besides accusing Yaropolk and pretending to be Xu Chu. Regardless, he was unable to move the obdurate council, who firmly stood behind the attacked man's acusation. Seeing the Council had reached a decision, Cao Cao could only sigh. "It had been my personal decision to bring you into this expedition Sima Yi, and I thought you were one to be fully loyal towards lofty ideals. Alas, you decided to act against us all and tried to take the life of great Faction Heir. But you have been exposed, and regardless of your talent you must die a rebel's death."
With that, Cao Cao nodded to his guards, who grabbed and brought Sima Yi outside where he was beheaded and his head paraded around the camp.
After the council had been dismissed, Surpreme Naval Admiral Yu Jin came to talk to Cao Cao at noon. After being granted an audience and salutions exchanged, Cao Cao pressed quickly into the matter "I am currently busy Yu Jin. What do you want to discuss?" Yu Jin nodded and said "My Lord Cao, I am pleased to inform you that the navy is relatively well trained. We can attack per your command, Prime Minister."
This was the best news for Cao Cao in several weeks now. Smiling, he nodded towards his General and replied "Good, good. We shall not attack just yet. We still have some unfinished business to attend to before we can strike with all confidence." Yu Jin could only deduce that the business was related to the numerous executions of high profile advisors ever since the mutinous documents had spread around the camp. Sensing that this was some sort of purge, or that Sun Quan's men had infiltrated Cao Cao's ranks, Yu Jin did not press the matter further, but only nodded in compliance. "Very well Prime Minister. That was all needed to report to you." Cao Cao nodded with a dismissive hand "Very well General Yu. You may return to your duties." Yu Jin nodded only once before he left the Cao Cao's tent.
Night had come once again. Everyone knew there was still at least one killer loose in the inner courtyards. But who could he be? Cao Cao had decided he would not attack Sun Quan before the council had dealt with this problem once and for all.

This game has a very interesting set-up... I thought it would be more vanilla than this.
What the heck, and FactionHeir, any explanation for this?
-
Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
Not really, but Sima Yi fits (I got his name in my results PM), according to wikipedia - though he betrayed them quite a bit later on, way after Cao Cao's death, which makes this particular set up interesting.
I don't have any idea who the last killer is though. What have the investigations resulted in so far?
Now to hope that I don't get attacked again.

Sorry guys, for missing the last voting round again. I was gone for the weekend and so unable to participate.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
From what I recall, Sima Yi was a Machiavellian adviser to Cao Cao, who eventually usurped the throne. However he didn't do that until after Cao Cao's death. Historically he didn't have an accomplice. If I had to fit someone into that role, it would be one of Cao Cao's relatives - maybe Cao Pi, Cao Ren, or Cao Fang ?

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
Ok so to put the history of the battle or red cliffs in lamens terms:
3 factions:
Wei (led by Cao Cao)
Shu (led by Liu Bei)
Wu (led by Sun Quan)
4 sentence battle summary:
Cao Cao sails a superior force to attack an alliance of Liu Bei and Sun Quan. Liu Bei's adviser Zhuge Liang predicts that there will be a wind storm on the day of the battle and the allies decide to take advantage of it. Before the battle, Sun Quan's strategist Pang Tong pretends to defect to Cao Cao. The night before the planned battle, Cao Cao's men are seasick so he ties together all his ships to prevent rocking on Pang Tong's advice. During the night, Sun Quan's field commander Zhou Yu sends his leutenant Huang Gai to fake a surrender. Huang Gai sails his ships which have been secretly loaded with incendiary devices for Cao Cao's chained armada. When he is allowed to approach, he sets his ships alight and crashes into Cao Cao's armada. Fanned by the wind storm, the fire incinirates half the troops and Huang Gai brings down a general ass whooping on the Wei army. Cao Cao's army turns tail and runs, pursued by allied troops. Commander Cao Ren stays behind and holds back the pursuers allowing the rest of Cao Cao's army to escape.
Major known players:
Cao Cao's WEI army:
-- Sima Yi, main adviser
-- Cao Ren, minor commander who saved the day
Sun Quan's WU army:
-- Zhou Yu, field commander for the allied forces
-- Pang Tong, faked defection, chained ships together
-- Huang Gai, faked defection, started ship fire
Liu Bei's SHU army:
-- Zhuge Liang, main adviser, predicted a wind storm on the night of the attacks, led his division to steal Wei's arrow supplies the night before the battle
-- Guan Yu, bearded brawler who kicks ass and takes names
People executed so far:
Centurion1 - Mao Jie - WEI, minor character, loyalty never in doubt.
Yaseikhaan - Xu Shu - SHU - minor advisor who crossed sides from Shu to Wei, at battle of Red Cliff he saw through Pang Tong's charade, but decided to switch sides to Shu rather than alert Cao Cao
Paulus Tertius - Xun Yu - WEI, minor advisor opposed Cao Cao's power moves historically, could be traitor power role
Death is Yonder - Pang Tong - WU (nicknamed Young Phoenix, so probably main Mafioso of this game) - major advisor for Wu, pretended to defect to Cao Cao before Red Cliffs
Sprig - Sima Yi - WEI - Cao Cao's Machiovellian adviser. Eventually usurped the power for his own descendants.
Assassinated (2):
Diana Abnoba - Xiahou Dun - Major general under Cao Cao, loyalty never in doubt, possibly a power role.
atheotes - Jia Xu - Cao Cao's advisor, loyalty never in doubt
Alive:
Faction Heir - Xu Chu - Cao Cao's body guard, very strong, but simple minded, loyalty never in doubt
I am convinced that Huang Gai would have to be the other man sent by Sun Quan. The only thing that has me concerned is that last round Sima Yi was cooperating with a second man. Historically Sima Yi did not colalborate with foreign forces. This makes me wonder if this is just some power role condition that emerged during the game or if I'm missing something.
For any investigators out there, here is a nice summary of characters by faction in case you aren't sure who you are investigating:

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
And look at that, you killed Cao Cao's main advisor and investigator on the word of a simple man. Nice!

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
So far I take it ATPG and Sprig have been working together one of them presumably a detective and the other his investigee.
I'm interested what your investigations have found so far and who you shared them with.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
You guys do realize I was claiming detective to distract the mafia and make them target me, right?
I mean I'd continue the charade but it's already been posted in the thread. The only people I'd be fooling is my fellow teammates.

Re: The Red Phoenix (IN PLAY)
I won't make any comment on ATPG's comments. As for my results, I can not reveal.

Just a mistake, it has been like that for several writeups now.
