Franconia 1114 AD
Although Duke Vaclav of Bohemia had encamped himself immediately behind Przebor Zdeb of Poland, the geography of the Mainz river prevented him from getting close enough to the city. Thus, when the Pole began his assault, Duke Vaclav was not able to come to the defense of the city, and Frankfurt was taken! It seems Przebor Zdeb intends to stay, as he has occupied Frankfurt, left a token garrison, and turned around to attack the Duke of Bohemia!

Battle Report to follow as soon as I can write it. (Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment, I didn't take many screenshots.)
Here are the announcements for the end of the season of 1114.
- The Kingdom of France is now at war with the Kingdom of England.
- Your relationships with The Byzantine Empire and Russia have worsened to 'Very Poor'.
- It has come to His Holiness's attention that the city of Prague is bereft of a proper place of worship. The Pope wishes you to build a Small Church in this city before five seasons have passed, or else your reputation with the Pope will suffer significantly.
- News has reached us that the Kings of Scotland and Sicily are dead and a new King has been crowned for each.
- Celebrations have broken out throughout the Reich at the news of two royal births. Prinz Leopold's wife Judda has given birth to a daughter who has been named Gersenda, while Jens Herden's wife Gertrudis has given birth to a daughter named Meckil.
- Accused of foul acts of heresy, it would appear that priest Dieter von Holland's ways are pure enough to spare him from being found guilty of heresy.

A small Polish army that had invaded Brandenburg has been beaten back, and a small church is being built in Prague; the recruitment of Theodericus's army all the while continuing in Magdeburg. Two town militias are also raised in Prague to bolster its defences.

The Kaiser moves within striking distance of Frankfurt and the Polish army. 2,000 florins have been transferred over to the Prinz.
Guys, Tosa has just pointed out to me that we have the ability to upload files directly to the post in this thread using the 'manage attachments' button. So no need to use either the org uploader or any external file hosting sites.
I can't believe I never noticed this before!

- Various disputes, actions and discrepancies have continued to deteriorate the relationship you have with the Moors, to the point where it is easy to say that things are tangibly worse than they have been in recent years. The relationship now stands at "Very Poor".

I would like to adopt him, whoever gets the first save should just say yes to that!
Here's the save. I accepted the adoption. Welcome to the Duchy of Osterreich, whoever is next in line!
The Prinz sent the Hungarians packing. Battle report coming up. He's back at Wien now ready to set off again for Innsbruck next turn.
Recruited a spy and one unit of spear militia.

Save is back !!
Lothar recruited a unit of Merc Frankish Knights for 1080
One of the toughest battle I fought of all times... I even thought at one point I would hit "withdraw" to save my avatar... I didn't expect at all to find an army on my path there and could have chosen not to attack at that point but I just had to try... And take whatever consequences...
Finally, it ended in an heroic victory with a battle marker (phew !!)
Luckily, the terrain played in my favour... The screenshot doesn't truely display the gradient of the slope...
Lothar gained some good traits... Both his unit and his mercs gained + 4 exp. though they're heavily depleted.
I tried to ransom the prisoners for a hefty sum of florins but to no avail
Maybe this will make Lothar a bit more presentable at court...

Wow Tristan that must have been a festival of charging and withdrawing! I applaud your patience and skill...
Defeated two small Hungarian armies and executed the prisoners of both, they won't trouble the Reich again.

Here's the new save. Did some retraining, recruited a new cavalry division and started the construction of a bowyer.
Taking the save.
-edit- Done. Heinrich has placed Frankfurt under siege.
I guess I should take the save again so I can make my move.
Guys, if you don't mind waiting I'd like to take the save again so I can move the merc spears south from Brandenburg towards Osterreich. I'm at work right now but I'll be able to do this later this evening.
Alternatively if some helpful soul would like to do this for me I'd be very grateful, and the game can continue without a delay.
I'll do it, so, uh, taking the save... again.

- Your relationships with several factions have changed notably. Relationships worsened:
- Spain - Poor
- Scotland - Poor
- Portugal - Poor
- You have pleased His Holiness by successfully building a Small Church in Prague, and thus propagating the proper worship of the Lord in this city.
- Accused of foul acts of heresy, it would appear Theodericus der Bartige's ways are pure enough to spare him being found guilty of heresy.

Save is back...
Lothar once again crossed the Milanese border, dealing with 300 archers standing border duty and marched north to Bern where he defeated a few Frenchmen intent on laying siege to Bern where Duke Bernardo is seeking shelter... Was Lothar willing to reinforce the Milanese Duke or simply seeking to himself lay siege and put the Duke to ransom ? No one knows...
Hey cecil, it looks like we no longer have the "don't fight hungary" mission from the pope anymore. I didn't see it in th emission list, so is it A-okay for us to attack Hungary now?
And which army is Harold in command of?
unfortunately none right now, but if we are able to attack hungary I am going to need you to join me, (jens herden) so we can attack the hungarian army and try to get in and besiege budapest.
Harold should have orders from Herden, but as far as I know he has no troops to command yet.
Right now I am just waiting to see if we are able to attack hungary
Okay, Harold, you can either stay in Wien and continue governing it for a turn, then come and join me in an assault against the hungarians next turn, or you can come join my force at the bridge, but I will be in command there so any battles fought will be fought be me.
Right, taking the save. Time to make some donuts.
Frankfurt has been liberated.
https://i113.photobucket.com/albums/.../VV/vv_002.jpg
There will probably be a battle report within the next 24 hours, once I sort out all the screenshots I took. Basically, the Kaiser's army took huge losses clearing the way for Theo's merry band to provide the hammer blow. Recovered a lot of casualties after the fight though, which was a pleasant surprise.
Frankfurt is once again the capital of the Reich. The citizens are so happy to be back under the Kaiser's benevolent thumb that construction of a brothel has already started.
-edit- ah yes, the all-important save.
Attachment 1137
Turn has ended, stand by for next turn.
Sir Jens Herden has triumphed, slaughtering all but a few men in the large Hungarians army, and taking only 53 casualties of his own. Of course, we did have a bridge no our side, and they were composed of horse archers, so I think all credit goes to the bridge.
After the battle the turn jumped to the HRE one before I had a chance to save, so I hope that is okay. Here is the HRE save, magdeburg has been besieged.

Marched to relieve Magdeburg from its siege and to teach the bloody Poles to know when to quit. I also started the construction of a building in Prague.
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local...id=205&id=8840
did the moves for myself and phonics. The Prinz has besieged Innsbruck and Jens Herden has besieged Budapest.
Harold, we need you to wait in Wien for a little longer until we receive the cavalry reinforcements.
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local...205#linkid8841
Took save and now it is back...
Having received news of the siege of Marseille in his absence, Lothar (now dubbed the Saint) marches south after enrolling the help of a company of Merc Frankish Knights (thus emptying his purse to the last florin...)
His way is barred first by the French willing to make him pay for his trespass under the walls of Bern (heroic victory on Lothar's part and 1054 florins ransomed). He then continues his ride south to find another mountain pass guarded this time by Milanese spearmen. Though the fight proves costly in German and Frankish lifes, it is considered another heroic victory. Prisoners are once again ransomed for 110 florins... He's now stranded in enemy territory with the remnants of his enrolled mercenaries, at the mercy of the Milanese...
OOC : I have a story in mind that could justify IC Lothar's come-back into the fold... Remains to put it into words...
Alright, taking the save.
-edit- no changes made, see OOC thread.

Recruited two regiments of mercenary spearmen, one unit of Frankish Foot Knights, and two regiments of Town Militia. The Kaiser plans to hold Frankfurt to the death.

Count Lothar is under attack by small army of Milanese archers and spearmen!

A last minute change of plans for tonight left me free to play the battle...
How I love these mountains battle !! :2thumbsup:
Brief summary of the battle : Deployment was at the top of high gradient slope with the Milanese at the bottom. I kept the mercs as reserve and sent Lothar down alone to try and kill the enemy general.
The mercs lured the spearmen up the slope by feinting a charge and withdrawal.
It left Lothar free to deal with the enemy general unit, until it routed and he got killed. He then pursued the remaining archers while the mercs led the spearmen on a merry chase. After having routed on contact the second archers, Lothar went for the spearmen only to have them finally see the light and come after him. I took no risk and charged the mercs on their rear : instant rout for the first unit, quickly followed by the second...
It didn't even require a tedious charge cycle this time... Gold chevron bodyguard FTW !!

Hi Cecil
Fredericus von Augsburg should be assigned to TCV from the end of this turn and going forward. TCV can move him and use him as he wishes. I have paid his upkeep so far and we'll keep it that way because he wasn't immediately sent to TCV for his use as agreed...
here is the save, I destroyed a couple of scouting parties, Harolde, if you would like you can come join us at Budapest, otherwise You can wait and continue governing Wien. If you choose the later option, I will probably need you to move up and guard the bridge across the Danube in a season or two. Helberharde, I think you need to stay here in Budapest this season, the Hungarian army nearby is to large to risk being outside the walls. I'm sure you'll get to have some action soon though, the storm approaches, and as always I need more men to plug the dikes.

oh right, sorry. For some reason I never thouhg to do that, probably just used to downloads from sendspace etc where you just copy the url.
Taking the save
And save is back... (sorry for taking so long with it... I got called back to work before I got a chance to play it...)
Damn !!! Once again, I was sure I got my FRAPS running and I have got no screenshots...
Lothar recruited 1 unit of Merc Xbowmen (860 fl.) north of him then recruited one unit of Frankish foot knights (790 fl.) and marched on Genoa.
His advance was stopped by one captain Moreno while the city garrison was in the command of Puccio Rossi, a minor member of the Milanese ruling family. Being a bit deranged, he stormed out of his walls to reinforce his subaltern but got caught in the open and killed.
It was considered an heroic victory once again and a memorial was erected under the city's walls in commemoration of it. "To the valiant people of Germany" can be read upon the stone.
A ransom of 912 florins was refused, leaving the town completely undefended.
In a deathly silence, Lothar marched in. He rounded up every merchant and banker in the city and had them cough up all of their gold. When tallies were finished, there were 4762 florins to be added to Lothar's treasury, now established in Genoa.
Taking the save.
-edit- It's open. No moves made.
My treasury is located in Budapest!

Before closing the turn, Cecil, could you let me take the save again to do some building and recruiting with my new-found wealth, please ?
