As was probably to be expected, the trapped campers still had not yet come together three days in. Nobody could blame them, of course - it takes a certain type of individually-inclined personality to choose a road life after all. In their world, self-sufficiency meant survival. You had to learn to not depend on anybody, since the possibilities were great that they wouldn't be there for you the next day.
However, now, things had changed. For once, self-sufficiency would get them nowhere, as only banding together and working as a cohesive group would get them to survive. As of Day 3, though, the campers showed no real signs of knowing that lesson. Voting was all over the place, with a full nine campers receiving at least one vote. The two leading candidates at the end of the day, Diamondeye and Chaotix, receiving a minuscule three votes each. Such close totals, where there was no clear favorite, only served to put everyone else on edge. When only two votes separated you from oblivion, you weren't in a good place.
Even during the runoff round, the campers were still bitterly divided, with votes flying in seemingly equal numbers in both directions. Diamondeye always seemed to be consistently ahead, and he began eying the largest log in the fire with some sweat. However, Chaotix always seemed to pull even with him, causing them both to sweat excessively. At the end of the day, though, the totals came back: Diamondeye by two. Chaotix would live to see another day.
Diamondeye started slowly, unconsciously, edging away from the log that would be his fate. Zack's mistake had been to focus on the wielder of the log, not the log itself. Diamondeye would not be taken by surprise, he would meet his death in the face and be prepared for -
He crumpled to the ground in a heap. This time, they had used the second largest log in the fire.

Reenk Roink didn't have any idea of what people did when they went back to their tents for the night. Nor did he have any inkling to find out. A true loner, Reenk didn't really need social company in order to provide satisfaction or fulfillment for him. Instead of clothes, Reenk filled his suitcases mostly with personal effects that defined him: Philosophy books, rare alternate versions of early Pearl Jam CDs, and his prized possession: a portable antenna TV that somehow still worked despite the switchover to digital a few years ago.
You see, even though Reenk had taken to the life of the road, mostly to get away from people, he found out that he couldn't quite get away from hockey and his beloved Detroit Red Wings. So whenever time allowed, he'd find a good lonely spot, turn on his TV, and try to catch the Red Wings game. This was a lot easier to do nowadays, since the Wings were in the playoffs and a lot more games were nationally televised. Who needed people and flaming logs and escaped killers when you had Datsyuk and Zetterberg? Yes, he might very well die soon, but the Wings were well on their way to their 5th Stanley Cup of the modern era, and Nicklas Lidstrom would be sent out as a champion.
However, it was not to be. Last night had been Game 7 of the Western Semifinals, and the Wings had finally been eliminated by the San Jose Sharks thanks to a late goal by Patrick Marleau which more or less iced things. Reenk had screamed out in anguish and fury when this happened, alerting the entire campground and sending them running. They had all thought that this was a kill, but in actuality the kill at that point had already happened. Everybody walked away grumbling about the false alarm, with, once again, no one understanding Reenk Roink.
With no more Red Wings hockey to watch, Reenk turned to... Tampa Bay Lightning hockey. His second team was doing well enough, having taken down the Pittsburgh Penguins and then the Washington Capitals in back-to-back rounds, and now they were facing the hated Boston Bruins, the scourge of professional hockey for longer than anyone could remember. Perhaps there was hope in the world after all, since the Lightning jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period, and Boston looked simply overmatched. Tampa was threatening again though, and soon enough -
"GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!" Teddy Purcell had scored for the Lightning, making it 3-0 in the first, a nearly insurmountable score. Reenk was thoroughly engrossed, his eyes glued to the TV, his thoughts far away from the campground. He was so entranced by his TV and the hockey game that he didn't even notice a shadowy figure sneaking up behind him, knife out, until he collapsed to the ground, his throat slit. As Reenk lie on the ground bleeding out and breathing his last breaths, a Boston player scored, making it 3-1.
The next day, all of the campers groaned when they did another head count and found yet another one of their number missing. It was back to the work and the fear and the voting. Would this be the day where they finally banded together and credibly dealt with the threat? Only time would tell.

When does the round end? This tally is not stable. Chaotix isn't going to leave his vote as-is going into his own possible lynch, and the other top two candidates for lynch are also voting for Chaotix, and they could easily jump ship if the Chaotix wagon changes. I think we can be *fairly* sure Chaotix and Scienter aren't mafia together. Not only have their votes for each other seemed to be genuine, but Chaotix is advocating her death in a position where her death is a very likely scenario.
