You know, it's almost midnight and I've been at this since 7am. I took a break, got delayed by work, but that's gonna have to be a day, for me. My mind's turning to jelly when I try to piece together the update cards. It's almost done, I just have to insert a description of where you are, how sturdy the buildings, an approximate image of your surroundings, and list off all the people and zombies you see.
I already have update cards with your previous orders, your current stats, your inventory, the item you found, your new location, and so forth, but.... I can't bring myself to juggle the 4 or 5 windows I need to have open to slip in the rest of your (absolutely vital and necessary) data. I can't send out the cards without it, and I can no longer concentrate enough to slog through. The lapses in concentration are slowing me down, and I don't have hours left in me. Therefore I should sleep first before tackling it.
I'll do much better for Movement Phase Two, I already see several time-savers which will help me get this done hours sooner. But for right now, I'm going to cry uncle until I get some sleep.
I gave you guys an extension, now I need one. :laugh4: just barely, but I do. Can't quite make it to the finish line.

I didn't foresee which parts of the update cards I needed to have done ahead of time. Which I could have done simultaneously with other tasks.
The only way to work out the bugs is to run through the list one by one and find out what needs to be better for next time.
Now that I have character card / update card templates created and alphabetized for every one of the 51 players, I could easily input and output the data contained within.
From this point onward, it is essentially copying a list and editing it as I go, as opposed to piecing it together from multiple sources (role Pm source, orders thread, search results thread, battle results thread, map/movement thread....) which took freaking forever.
Don't get me wrong, what I have to do every round will still take the better part of a day, but it won't be still going 3/4 of a day into it.
Since there's still stuff remaining that only the primary Host can do, I can't even pass the ball to my co-hosts, who ordinarily would be running it into the endzone for me. Think I gotta finish this one off myself, work out how and where I can pass the ball along for next phase so there won't be a delay of this type again.

Pizzamandude, we prefer to have phases last longer and be done right than risking you suddenly sending someone a PM reading 'oh, sorry, you died two phases ago and I miscalculated 'cos you're sleepy, you didn't have enough ammo to kill the zombies that had cornered you' or something like that.

Put forward a few tasks my co-host(s) can assist me with while I'm at work, but here's a present for you fine folks.
Those of you who have someone standing near you, who you can talk to, will be informed. That way, if you are not by yourselves, you can begin the process of actually talking with someone else in the game about your strategy, what items you might have that you want to trade, where to go and when to split up and when to meet up and where, etc.
That way, this time isn't just dead time, but considered part of the very soon to be opened Interactive Phase.
I also should write the tutorial for the Interactive Phase, but please, do not send in Interactive Phase orders until you've read the tutorial.
12-06-2013, 19:32
Askthepizzaguy
Re: Resident Evil 2: DISCUSSION THREAD
Everyone who has someone near enough to them that they can now communicate, has been informed via PM.
If you did not get a PM, that means you're still alone, or surrounded by zombies that you've either slain or fled from. Or there are people hiding from you.
Please make sure your private communications are still within the rules laid out.

1) Yes
2) Unless you're simply handing someone an item, yes.
3) It is completed after ambushes, but before other forms of combat.
Ambushes are always the first thing that happens in any round. It is the ultimate First Strike.
Also, orders and all other PMs go to Resident Evil, unless they're simply questions like these. I like to handle these ASAP.

Ok, just for sanity's sake, if you want to inspect the building's structural integrity at your new location, fire off a PM to Askthepizzaguy's account.
Otherwise I have to look up 51 different values and insert them into each of your update cards, and it really only matters if you're planning on barricading yourself inside or on top. Otherwise it's worthless information and additional busywork for me.
There, that takes care of that problem. :tongue2:

TUTORIAL: HOW TO SEND IN ORDERS FOR INTERACTIVE PHASES
Please read this, and ensure your orders are properly formatted. This helps me and my co-hosts out greatly! I can process improperly formatted orders, but this risks confusion, and delay of the game, as I may have to clarify something with you before continuing. If all 51 players send in properly formatted orders, that reduces delay of game.
_________________
During an interactive phase, you have a limited number of options. You are not moving, you're discussing with nearby people, and you're investigating your surroundings, or you're preparing for battle, or you're hiding from battle, or you're making use of the transportation available, or...
A number of options. Click the spoiler.
Very importantly, this is the only phase you can trade items in.
You can also freely choose to communicate with people in same/adjacent tiles only, and anyone you have radio contact with or have host permission to contact. All other private or public communication is illegal.
You can do any and all of the free actions, but you may choose only one Elective option.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Free actions:
1) Communicate with people in same or adjacent tiles
2) Trade items with people in same or adjacent tiles
3) Interact with the game environment (see: interactions)
Break into building using Strength, then Search or Barricade (If you did not just Sprint)
Break into building using an Item (such as a key) then Search or Barricade (If you did not just Sprint)
Climb on top of the building using the Fire Escape, then Barricade
Barricade oneself (open buildings only)
Use the Subway
Use the Elevated Train
Obtain Gasoline
Attempt to commandeer vehicle
Attempt to use Ferry
Sabotage equipment
Other options, location specific
NOTE: Barricade inside / Top of building = Negates the ability to escape during combat.
Rule/Mechanics addendum: Climbing on top of a building automatically gives you +1 sight range, +2 with a sniper weapon.
Elective options:
Ambush target (Only if you're already hiding) Successful Ambush allows FIRST STRIKE
Hide/Prepare an Ambush (Allows you to attack targets crossing your zone of control in the next Movement Phase instead of moving)
Search and Destroy (look for items and attack hidden targets)
Normal Search (look for items in a 9-tile radius around your present location)
Attack Target (Choose which specific targets to attack before they move)<----- You can do this if you just Sprinted.
Do nothing (reduces risk of being attacked by hidden monsters) <----- You can do this if you just Sprinted.
Defend (Same as Do nothing, but with +1 combat)
Sprinting removes Ambush, Hide/Prepare, Search, Search and Destroy, and Defend as viable options.
Please, format your orders in the following manner:
1) List off all the Free actions you wish to do.
2) Name which Elective option you choose.
SAMPLE ORDERS:
Quote:
I trade my Shotgun to GeneralHankerchief, in exchange for his Medical Kit.
I also use my Keycard to open up the City Hall. Then I climb on top of the building and barricade myself.
I Defend.
Quote:
I give my First Aid Spray and my pistol to Chaotix, in exchange for nothing.
I board the subway train.
I do a normal search as well.
If you just Sprinted:
Quote:
I trade items with ATPG, red herb for a yellow herb.
I barricade myself inside the nearest building.
I Do Nothing else.
Quote:
I don't want to trade.
I just sprinted, so I can't search.
I choose to attack Seamus Fermanagh.
Much simpler.
Here's a complicated one:
Quote:
I trade with Player X,
I trade with Player Y,
I break into the building using strength,
I sabotage all the equipment inside the building,
I climb on top of the roof and barricade myself inside,
Elective option:
And I prepare an ambush from on top of the building (Hide)
Addendum to the Interactive Phase Tutorial:
Combat is possible during the Interactive Phases.
Unfortunately that means you would have to include MovementPhase-like battle instructions for your battle behavior to be any different this Interactive Phase than from the previous phase.
Otherwise I'll accept your Movement Phase battle instructions as being the same.
This is an oversight on my part- battles during the Interactive phase will be rarer, I'd assume, but that was an assumption on my part.
Also, please send all orders to the following Account: Resident Evil
Do not send orders to Askthepizzaguy.
.......... Questions? Comments?

Yeah well, I still need to tighten up the hosting duties. I have a clear underestimation of how much work it was and how long it takes to do everything.
I figured sending out results would be a snap but that's still half an hour.
It seems a lot smaller in my head, but it's still 51 results. You simply don't have that many to do in a mafia game.
It's all coming back to me now, I tell ya. No wonder this stuff took 30 hours a week to do last time. Sheesh and cripes.

Hmph. Some of this stuff COULD be automated. There's a lot of tasks that could be easily repeatable by a computer 50 times.
Each automated function, however simple, could save me 30 minutes of work. I'll definitely ask about specific functions having a repeat tool.

Seriously let me know ATPG, I can pretty much code anything lol, even with hundreds of variables (though I'd rather not lol). It might be a bit late now to make a completely automated system which I could have at the beginning, but I can certainly make you some spot tools to tackle certain things quickly.

I need some time to think this over, and see which pieces can be fully automated.
Basically, all I want is tools to repeat certain tasks over and over. Battles are a bit too complicated to automate.

Not a lot of sunlight going to happen this game. It's 815 pm, and most of you will be dead before sunrise.

I need some time to think this over, and see which pieces can be fully automated.
Basically, all I want is tools to repeat certain tasks over and over. Battles are a bit too complicated to automate.
Nothings too complicated to automate lol. But yep let me know what you need.

Update:
Current Strength of the Zombie Horde:
36 Alpha Zombies
El Gigante
Note: This information will be deliberately vague; sometimes not particularly accurate or precise.

You should've said 6^2 to screw with the people who don't know their exponentials.

Re: Resident Evil 2: DISCUSSION THREAD
I promise you, the screwing with people will commence very shortly.

Re: Resident Evil 2: DISCUSSION THREAD
Speaking of which, all of you in groups larger than two should be pooping yourselves right now, since there was no El Gigante attack.
He's still on the move, and he wants to crush your bones. You might have 15 minutes left to live.
This will be your only warning.

I understand it is really late but I would like to sign up as a reserve. Haven't checked here in ages.

Also I hope that whoever is playing as Oswald Hamilton keeps up my fine tradition of living. Lol that is if he is in the game.

Re: Resident Evil 2: DISCUSSION THREAD
Please read all the rules and mechanics carefully, some things are different.
Also, you may be called to active duty sooner than you think. I know everyone got their orders in this time, but that was with a replacement person.
I can easily lose a player, have done so a few times before the game even started.

You can form an alliance at any time.
All involved PM me your consent to it. It's done.
Basically, you know where the other person is even if they choose to hide within your zone of control, unless they betray you, you fight together and automatically do not target the other person unless you specifically tell me to.
Grenades like flash and hand grenade do not affect this person.
If this person is non-human, you still do not target them when attacking non-humans.

Re: Resident Evil 2: DISCUSSION THREAD
Addendum to the Interactive Phase Tutorial:
Combat is possible during the Interactive Phases.
Unfortunately that means you would have to include MovementPhase-like battle instructions for your battle behavior to be any different this Interactive Phase than from the previous phase.
Otherwise I'll accept your Movement Phase battle instructions as being the same.
This is an oversight on my part- battles during the Interactive phase will be rarer, I'd assume, but that was an assumption on my part.

Re: Resident Evil 2: DISCUSSION THREAD
Thanks for your queries. This game is complicated enough where your questions help me define the rules if they haven't been written out ahead of time.

There's a Frank and Billy. So there's probably an Oswald as well. I don't think our chars are in the game though, bit unfair if you remember the old names.
And we would totally need to keep our stat boosts and weapons. ~D
