Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
I like what my Julii faction leader said before a battle against the Egyptians - he called them "disgusting necrophiliac bastards" or some such ... Laughed out loud as I imagined Roman rumors about nasty goings-on inside the Pyramids ...
I just installed BI yesterday and have only played a few battles. I was disappointed that, after my fervently Christian general won a battle in which he brought a contigent of Catholic priests, the announcer guy (who tells you reinforcements have arrived, etc.) said, "gods be praised!" And after playing the Battle of Badon Hill, as the Christian "King Arthur," he says "the gods try men's faith sometimes ..." With religion so important in BI they could've made sure Christian generals don't get speeches with pagan references ....

That and in two out of my three night battles the general began "Before dark this battle will be over..."

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
The first part of this one was new to me:
"A victory here will be hard fought.... but glorious! We´ll use missiles to rian death upon our enemies. They´ll beg for an end of our deadly storm"

Ah. My favorite has yet to be listed. I think...read all the pages to make sure...

Defending roman general before a massive assault by the Gauls:
"They are keen... they are eager. All we have to do is to let them die in front of our walls. Stand and let them come to us!"

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
I currently well into a huge imperial building game as the Romani in EB. Seriously outnumbered in Britain my general gave this pre-battle speech:
"Well ride me sideways and whip me with a winkle fork, lads! There's a lot of the bastards, aren't there? Those arseweasels are here to get away from their unfulfilled, shrill wives. Hardly surprising, as they all have tiny little manhoods! Smaller than a flea on a cockroach's bum!"
I couldn´t belive my ears and almost fell off my chair laughing, he he!

Yep, mine was a drunken lout but a great general. He trailed off before remembering what he was going to say; "Attack the elephants, men! Go for the pink trunky beggars!"
My fave captain's speech was "Now lads, after the battle - please, no skipping with the entrails this time.":laugh4:

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
I was disappointed in my Carthage game. One whole wing of the family is crazy (ranging from "dangerously mad" to "hooting") but I never get any of the Mad General speeches from them. Are those for Romans only? :skull:

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
if you didnt know already, charachters having certain traits will say something special in the battle speech.

I do belive they are, sorry. Here´s another gem:
Some claim that I do not have the skill to ambush a dead fish! This is a fine joke, and obvious nonsense! I smile whenever I hear it, and your actions today will put an end to that old lie!

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
I do love to play with thoose captains since their one-liners are so powerful. This one always makes me remember Maximus´ speech in that intro-battle in Gladiator:
And on my command, unleash hell!

Yes. In fact, all cultures except the Romans get a few repetitive phrases that have no bearing on battle or general whatsoever. Only the Romans get really interesting speeches.

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
Playing EB as the Seleukids. They are based upon the Romans so I get a lot of Roman speeches. One of my current general, a quite prudent one, delivers this line all the time:
My brave men! Victory shall be ours, by grace of my inspired leadership. But this means I cannot risk myself in the front line. I must remain safe, guarded by you, my loyal warriors! This is not cowardice, oh no. It is prudence, the handmaiden of victory!
...and another is a bit more "into the action" type of guy:
I am known as something of a philosopher. Some ask me, 'Why are we here?' The answer is often complicated... but today we are here to kill all those bastards.
This one I´ve never heard before:
The Numidian army we face lacks all courage. True, they put up a good front, but this hides the cowardice in their hearts. There is no word in their tongue for 'bravery', so we need not fear them.

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
Inspiring:
This day will be a day long remembered, a day that men talk about 100 years hence: the clash of great men. This is the stuff of the old epics, and today we create a our own myth. We will be heroes!
NOT:
Errr... where was I? Oh yes. Attack the elephants, men! Go for those pink trunky beggars! There was.... errr, something else….

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
I don't generally listen to the speeches often - what are they like in BI? Do the WRE and ERE get the more detailed speeches, do they all get detailed speeches, or is it pretty samey across the board?
I like "A battle is never an easy thing, especially before breakfast..." from the Greeks...

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
My all time favourite has to be captain Lucius before a battle against the unwashed hordes of Germania: "Kill them all!" (Short and to the point, he he!)

Re: Cool pre-battle speaches II:
"The owls have promised me their help in this battle, so how can we lose" I'm not quite sure on the exact wording. I thought it was funny and he did win.

I think it's "I want to see blood, I want to bathe in their blood, I want to bathe in their blood for a week. Now, kill them all." or something along those lines
