These night time attacks on Civic are cowardly and shameful, and it is both the Military and the Populists who give us such grief.

Grief? As opposed to the bureaucrats who seem determined to hamper the military at every step?
Nine out of every ten votes that you make are levied against the military; the 'grief' that you claim to be subjected to is mere recompense for your own actions!
What will you do when the merchants become more powerful, holding far more sway over the Senate than the military ever has? Will you continue to hound us then, or will you actually wake up and realise that the fine balance we strive to maintain is being torn apart at the seams?!
While the military have served us well, I deem them unfit to lead us well. As such I am happy to back the Merchants and the Religious men of our Empire, for they have not attacked the bureaucrats in the way that the military or the mere commoners have.

I cannot believe that, after all the spiel about ensuring that the position of Consul is passed on to another party year by year, you have performed a dramatic turnaround in opinion and decide to discard your previous stances entirely.
I would have thought that the temple, in the very least, would have been incapable of such hypocritical behaviour; regardless of your own decisions, the military will still uphold the virtues of democracy and fairness even if the rest of you can be easily bought!

Can you not see what's happening?
You are allowing the merchants to bolster their numbers; soon we will see over thirty representatives fighting their cause, and re-electing Senator Pizza will only allow him to further distance himself and his ilk from you all within the coming years.
Don't abandon your democratic ideals and the balance we have maintained here, choose to vote for a new party to take the mantle of Consul.
If you are so worried about that, perhaps you should stop taking from the religious to boost your own numbers.
You play politics poorly. I have given to the religious this turn, and I will again. You have taken from them. Now they will listen to you?

Right, and then what occurs once you've removed the Populists from the Senate?
You have gained the favour of both the Civic and Religious factions, and will return their trust by targetting myself and the military; once we are removed, your former allies will simply fall beneath your heel as they will have already ousted the greatest chance they had at maintaining status quo.
I am simply asking the senators to honour their earlier cries for democracy, by voting for the title of Consul to pass onto another party as they previously stated... but it would appear that these cries are falling on deaf ears.

That's ridiculous. I had supported you from day one, and I had no contacts with the Civic faction.Quote:
At the end of the day, you are doing exactly what I felt you would when we talked privately and you're essentially forcing me to ally with the Populists in order for my faction to survive; we were always going to be next, clearly.
You, on the other hand, continually supported the Populists, even as they were my greatest rival. You accused me of plotting your downfall when I had no intention of doing so. When I asked why you thought I would, you pointed out that we would go against each other eventually, so obviously that meant right now.
It is you who have pushed me away. You broke my heart, Secur-o. You broke my heart. It was yours, and you trampled on it.
I just want an ally I can rely on, who will act like one. Politics is a dirty game, and you need friends to survive.
Do not forsake your friends, Secura. Especially when their feelings are genuine.
Firstly, I apologise for this non-roleplaying post, but it was too difficult to convey these thoughts as a character; they're better coming straight from Secura.
I have, with the exception of the Civic faction who constantly harass me, supported each faction at some point in the game, your own included. So why are you so concerned with how I respond to the Populists? Does offering them some support on occasion automatically mean that I'm an enemy as well? :/
You cited them as your greatest rivals and I was fine with that, despite the fact that there was no actual basis to your animosity beyond what I believe to be your misinterpretation of the game's mechanics. I still believe that you've misunderstood the popularity rewards, by the way.
I didn't actually accuse, I stated that it was the obvious choice for you to make from a game perspective; I hoped I'd be wrong on that, to be fair.Quote:
You accused me of plotting your downfall when I had no intention of doing so. When I asked why you thought I would, you pointed out that we would go against each other eventually, so obviously that meant right now.
Once the Populists were destroyed, you would have to then turn your eyes elsewhere, and since Religious had been compliant with you on most matters, I knew that would mean Military or Civic; since Military has held the greater numbers, it seemed logical that we would be your target of choice after the Populists.
I left home earlier today after speaking with you, mulling over what you'd said and actually deciding to trust you; I return home from Beskar's to find that you've convinced God Emperor and the Civic faction to perform a U-Turn on their previous statements and form a voting block with you.Quote:
It is you who have pushed me away. You broke my heart, Secur-o. You broke my heart. It was yours, and you trampled on it.
Since you'd already aligned yourself with Religious/Civic, it seemed as though Military would be shut out in the cold and thus the nature of my posts this evening; I'm not forsaking friends, I'm attempting to make them. >.<

Even now, I cannot bear to turn my back on thee, my enchanting conqueress. But I tell thee, the pain I can bear has limits. A wounded heart can only bleed for so long, before it stops beating entirely. When you left my rose wilting on the senate steps, I had no choice but to try to find other friends to console me. You know what I want, and what I've always wanted. But you refuse me....
Why? Is it because the Populists are more numerous, and thus more valuable to you? Is this all just a mathematical equation, that I am on the losing side of?
Perhaps the days of conquering Gaul have hardened your heart to an old softy like myself. I am not as strong as thou, and I am mostly alone, as my fellow Senator seems to be continually absent. I have always admired the military, and have professed my desire to see you thrive and lifted not a hand to stop you in all your endeavors, be they benign or otherwise.
Nothing the Populists could ever do to me could match the absence I feel in my heart when my truest friend doesn't trust me, sees me as a threat, and denounces me publicly.
Why must you be so beautiful.... :shame:
You must choose who you wish to be allied with, and stop turning me away, else my heart will bleed its last.
I know, friend and Senator Double A. I know... you've always been a good friend.
As Consul, I am hereby accusing the Populists of trying to overthrow this government, and create civil war. I declare them to be enemies of the Republic.
Either they are destroyed or we are. You must choose....

The civics keep messing with you purely because you have offered no other way. Secura has been fair, but you Double A have hardly changed your views. The only reason I began voting for you was because you became too powerful. But since you persist with voting me, so too will I, but seeing as I have no quarrel with the Mercantile or Religious factions at the moment, I have two options: the Populists and the Military, and since the Mercantile clearly want rid of the Populists and are doing a reasonably good job, the Military was the only one left. But as you see my votes are roughly half and half between Military and Populists. It'd be all out attack on one of you, but Secura and Romanic have been fair and spread the votes around.
The Merchants have offered me what the Military never have, and what I thought the Populists would give me, but never happened.
I have one more vote tonight, where it goes depends on what happens in the next 15 minutes.
So speaks only the man who seeks to deceive and betray those he claims to protect. You must act against the Merchant faction before it grows further out of hand!
Rest assured, if the Consul action was capable of giving to a different faction, it would be to the religious faction presently.
My final vote will place yet another member in the religious faction. You will not finish them on my watch. Nor will the Civic faction go down.

OOC: This, sadly is what politics is actually like, certainly in Ireland and the UK anyway. But I'm guessing the US is the same.
That wasn't an invitation for you to keep it up.
ooc: No, in the US, there are only 2 groups that have above 2 senators. And the two big ones only attack each other. Also the other guys don't attack the big ones (successfully).
Well, I'm sure this game will reach that stage.
