Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
Well, since the dead baddies are talking more than the living townies, I suggest we let them win. They seem to want it more than the indecisive townies.
:laugh2:
edit:
To be useful, here is a tally. I double checked it; it sadly appears to be correct.
Quote:
Ichigo: 1 (Lord Winter
boudica: 1 (Ichigo)
Lord Winter: 1 (boudica)
Abstain: Psychonaut
Seamus appears to be the deciding factor.

Just because someone is confirmed scum doesn't mean everything they say is wrong. If scum only spouted things that were blatantly false all the time, they would be easy to ignore. That's why a good mafioso says plenty of things that are perfectly sensible on a regular basis. There's no reason to ignore these statements just because they come from a mafioso. It's a relatively simple process to put a mental stamp of "Questionable Motive" on their statements, to give them their proper evidentiary weight.
In any case, I don't think that either Andres or Jolt know the identity of the our surviving scumbag. They're definitely trying to cause confusion, but I suspect they're incapable of totally misleading us simply because they don't know who to lead us away from. Hence their scatter-shot of accusations at pretty much everyone alive.

Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
Okay just checking. I figured you knew what you were doing, but I just had to make sure. Vigilant townie and such, even in death.
I'm going to prod Seamus to see if I can get him to decide this matter.
-
Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
We know Seamus is innocent so why not just let him abstain and Reenk kills all of the above?
-
Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
That's fine by me. But are we sure it would end in a triple lynch? Besides, we risk allowing the remaining evildoer to change his vote at the last minute and lynch someone good.
-
Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
Vote changer is already last last I checked.
-
Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
I mean like a regular mafia changing his vote just before the round ends, no special tally-editing ability.
-
Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
Doesn't matter. Whoever changes the tally before the end to vote someone else obviously is afraid of dying and only mafia would be at this stage, exposing them completely. Townie win either way except as I said if Reenk himself is mafia.

He voted abstain in post #1864 :balloon2:

Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
:stupido: Day 11
Quote:
As the sky dimmed, the priest king Reenk Roink examined the tally and saw an impasse between three settlers. Once again, the decision was to fall to him. Offering a short prayer to all the immortal gods, he begged for their inspiration to lead to a prudent judgment.
When the inspiration came, it strongly advocated the executions of all three settlers with votes. The priest king was extremely hesitant and worried at this cogent recommendation. It was an all or nothing move. The last threat(s) would have to be among the three damned or else the usurpers would have succeeded, and his own life would be at serious risk.
The priest king eventually put his faith in the will of the gods and called for the settlers one by one to be crucified.
The doomed settlers went quietly and solemnly, and this unnerved the priest king immensely. He retreated into his quarters, barred the doors, and began praying incessantly, hoping that it was over yet having a strong feeling that he was over...

Bleh, well done town. :) me and Andres knew who the other usurper is from the get go. :P
-
Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
Gah I misread ATPG's tally as saying Psychonaut also had a vote on him
Well, let's hope that he's town and not the mafia's insider who agreed to frame Jolt to make the mafia survive till the end.
[edit]
Ohhh Reenku trying to put up suspense with "that he was over". Tho that he could well be Vode, no? :tongue2:

Good to see that even the scum can't agree on what the end is. :laugh4:

Don't write it off yet. Jolt appears to think he knew who the person was and that they got lynched. Sasaki is likely just screwing with us because he likes to provide entertainment. Reenk's statement at the end could easily be to get us all uppity about a mafo-victory before revealing it as a town victory.
I'm cautiously optimistic that we've managed to stooge our way to a victory.

Quote:
In the depths of the night a man slowly limped across the swampy trails surrounded by partially constructed structures of the settlement. He stopped suddenly in a marshy clearing and simply stood there for a few moments waiting for the dark mist to materialize. But the avatar of Vode never came. Peculiar, thought the man, the settlement had been nearly wiped out. Most of the settlers were dead along with their women, slaves, and animals. The Bronze Companions were now but two or three. All the buildings were falling into ruin. There was no food grown and no clothes sewn. Yet apparently Vode still did not wish to strike, or that is what the man thought.
Perhaps the last remaining settler had to be killed. Yes, that was it. Walking to the house of the last settler, the limping man swiftly stabbed the unaware settler with a broken bottle. How fitting a death.
Yet Vode still did not appear. Did the Infiltrator of Vode, who lasted so long when all of his more... direct and noticeable... companions, had fallen have to slay the priest king himself? Vode was certainly a demanding god to serve.
The limping man wondered how he would do it. The priest king was one of the greatest warriors who walked the land while Vode had never given his Infiltrator any physical prowess. At this moment the limping man realized the great gift that Vode had given him. Vode had clouded the eyes of all others in respect to him. The god of wars had shielded himself from any scrying, even that of the sky god himself! The limping man cursed himself for being ungrateful of this great boon the god of foreign peoples had bestowed on him and resolved to use his gifts to slay Reenk Roink. The strike of the priest king was not terrifying if it could not hit its mark.
So the agent of Vode limped into the temple complex and stood outside the quarters of the priest king. It was barred shut, but the agent remained undeterred. He began to loosen an already loose stone block and finally made an entry. Stepping inside he found the priest king with his back turned, kneeling and weeping in prayers. How pathetic. The Infiltrator of Vode pulled out the poisoned dagger of one of his dead compatriots and rose his arm, ready to strike.
"There will be no need for that my servant..."
The agent of Vode stumbled back in disbelief as the priest king Reenk Roink uttered these words. The priest king then began to disintegrate into a fine black mist, and the agent immediately fell prostrate on the floor as he recognized who it was.
"My Lord Vode! I have carried out your task with the powers you bestowed upon me!"
Vode replied: "Yes my servant, you are indeed the best of them all."
The Infiltrator of Vode questioned: "But... if you are Reenk Roink... then why...? Our mission..."
Vode coolly responded: "My servant, you know of my plot to overthrow OsiOsi by causing much bloodshed. Yet that is easy for me, and I would not need such an elaborate plan involving my servants. Rather, this entire usurping business was to test my own agents, to see who would be most worthy to claim the title of Vode's Chosen One."
"The result is quite clear. The most important attribute in war is not sheer power like Ares held, nor is it sorcery and dark magic like Jolt wielded, nor is it the art of stealth that Andres mastered. It is gathering information on your enemies and concealing information from them. That is your domain. You. Seamus Fermanagh. The Chosen of Vode!"
Seamus Fermanagh felt a great deal of satisfaction that moment. He would began his ascent to the top in this world, while his patron would begin his ascent to the top of the pantheon.
usurper victory! (very close and an upset)

Bah! I guess his power was showing up innocent on investigation. Well played, Seamus. You never did anything to tip me off.
Many thanks, Reenk! It was an excellent game, and the role PMs were the best I've ever seen.

Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
There was a lot concealed to you about how your roles worked. Later tonight I will give all the role messages and the quirks that only I knew.
-
Re: The Settlement (IN PLAY)
Awesome!
Our defeat was a result of the double and triple lynches. The right plan would have been to lynch all those not investigated, then look for suspects. But activity fell off so much.
Also...how does that townie info group look now? :laugh4:

You are
The Blessing of Kefy
Background:
You were always a pious man, honoring the gods and helping your fellow men. The goddess Kefy was impressed by you and gave you the power to heal.
She did this by two ways. First she gave you some divine wisdom and supernatural powers of restoration. Second she taught you some important things about "normal" medicine.
Your new talents served you well. Word spread about you as some miracle man and you soon received the epithet "The Blessing of Kefy" for not only your healing skill but also your agreeable bedside manner.
You soon were elevated to the local priest king's personal surgeon, and you used the great influence you gained in such a position to make the lives of the people better in all ways. Your motto always was prevention over treatment.
When the priest king died he named you heir instead of his eldest son. However, you declined because you wanted to prevent jealousy and strife, because taking such a position would prevent you from having the time to heal, and because you were too humble.
One day, Kefy came to you in a dream informing you the the agents of the god of war and foreign peoples Vode were going to try and usurp the new settlements that were to be made on the frontier lands.
Without hesitation you left your comfortable position to sail with a group of settlers, that you may ease their suffering in the turbulent time to come.
Battle Rating:
3 – You are not a man of war by any means and have no military training or equipment, but your healing abilities more than easily make up for your lack of strength and it will take quite a bit more effort to put you down as compared to men with similar stature and strength.
Abilities:
Healing: Every night, you may go and visit a settler to see if he is in good health. This will involve going into his tent or house and treating him if he is injured or sick in anyway. With the goddess Kefy working through your hands any miracle is possible.
Victory Conditions:
Outlast the usurpers (settler victory)
Public Role:

:stupido: Other people on hearing that you carry water
You are a
Water Carrier
Background:
Why do you do the most humiliating job ever? The work that even slaves laugh at? There are many answers given to questions like these by many different people.
Your mother states you do it because you are the strongest man.
The farmers say you do it in order to piss in the water because you believe your urine has cosmetic benefits for the women who are not renowned for their beauty.
A pious priest says you do it because you are a kind man who likes to do beneficial services for the community.
A theory popular with academics is that you are actually an evil wizard who is putting some kind of dormant poison in the water. You will one day activate that poison which will make the entire settlement fond of nothing but archery. Then you will call in your army of mercenary swordsmen who will invade and a bloody battle will be fought with you eventually prevailing because swordsmen are strong against archers.
Some salute you, some ridicule you, and some warn against you but you go on, bringing water to the settlement every morning.
Battle Rating:
3 – Though you don’t have any military training or equipment, all the water lifting has made you ripped. You are stronger than most warriors. All the taunting has also given you thick skin.
Victory Conditions:
Outlast the usurpers (settler victory)

You are
The Eye of OsiOsi
Background:
OsiOsi, the sky god, the king of the gods, sees all.
When the peoples were created OsiOsi thought that because they knew he was always watching them, they would be respectful and prudish. This was not so, and the people flagrantly picked their noses and scratched their butts.
The fact that the peoples did not seem to care one bit that OsiOsi was watching them enraged the sky god immensely. This was what led to the first great flood... The descendants of the surviving peoples were just like their ancestors, and this is why the early history of the world is so riddled with floods...
However, it was OsiOsi who learned his lesson before the peoples learned theirs. A distant god watching did not really have much of an effect on human behavior, so instead, he created in humans an innate nosiness.
Now people were much more careful not to pick their noses and scratch their butts unless they were alone. Chalk up another win for OsiOsi.
Your very refined mannerisms have led you to become one of the special elect of OsiOsi, and therefore he grants you his sight and lets you see what he sees.
Battle Rating:
1 – Devoting yourself to the rituals of OsiOsi leaves little time for military training. The strongest man is the one with the strongest faith as you say.
Abilities:
Investigation: Every night period, you may attempt an investigation on one settler. This will involve making a request to OsiOsi who will then send you down the exact knowledge on that settler.
Victory Conditions:
Outlast the usurpers (settler victory)
Public Role:
Quote:
If thou ever feeleth the desire to striketh another, restrain thyself and burneth a pound of meat to OsiOsi. He will allow thee to bed the wife of thee enemy.

There are a two prerequisites for becoming a priest:
1) Being old
2) Being a virgin
After that you can worship the gods all the time instead of just on weekends!
