That's supposedly something John F. Kennedy said, but I first heard it in Black Ops' zombies mode.
I still feel that you've overstepped the boundaries, though. No actual permission is no actual permission, so you legally you can't do it no matter how probable it is that you would get it were they to respond. We work with what we've got, not with what we would have if....Quote:

Here's an interesting question. A count is created by a duke and can have his title and property taken away by that duke at the drop of a hat.
Does that mean that the Duke can do recruitment, queue up buildings etc in the count's city without his permission? and by extension, could the duke give permission for someone else to recruit in the count's city?
As I said, it is for the Kaizer to decide.
(I thought as much, just was making sure you didn't think I was trying to stretch ooc rules of the game) :)
I don't think it does, and it certainly doesn't imply it.
If the Duke can take land at whim then I guess he could do it, but only by stripping the count of land and title, likely making himself an enemy.
I love being the most popular guy in the game. :laugh4:
The Margrave and his men just have such a way with people. I'm envious myself. :clown:
I know! Makes me wonder why more people don't love him. Actually, it reminds me of my time as the king in WotB. Everyone ended up rebelling against me. I think people must be threatened by the grace and eloquence that I imbibe into my characters.
If You become king in the coming EB game as well I can assure you that at some point this could happen as well.
In case a new character emerges, my timezone is GMT +10.
Does anyone know whether, if you leave a guy in siege until the city automatically gives up to you, that's considered an aggressive act in defiance of a Papal order?
From what I can remember, it is considered a breach of the mission, so yes.
I've noted something odd about those missions: Sometimes if you blockade a port by putting a unit on top of the land tile that acts as the port city, it violates the mission but doesn't result in excommunication. Once you fail the mission, you can then perform a more aggressive action which would have ordinarily gotten you excom'ed.
That only works on the "you may be excommunicated" missions. The more serious "You will be" will get you excommunicated.
Hi guys
Just to let you know, I want to create a new subforum in here to move all the V&V game threads into. This is because there is another RPG starting and those guys would like their own sub-forum to keep it separate from this game. So the structure will be TW RPGs as the parent forum and then three sub-fora: Vassals & Valour, Kings of the Nile, Archive Games.
Can you foresee any issues with that, before I go ahead and get it done?
phonics, your PM caught me as I was about to get ready for work - expect an answer in about 10 hours or so.
Also, we tried the multiple subforums idea a while back but it didn't work for whatever reason. I'm fine with it one way or the other, but just letting you know.
-edit- of course, I may be confusing my memory. It could have been that the subforums worked fine, it's just that the games themselves were inactive. Either way, everything's eventually going to be moved back into the TW RPGs forum once the games in question are finished, I think.
Yeah, it's true that the sub-fora will have a finite life. But there are certainly advantages to having the games separated while they are ongoing, for ease of reference for players and spectators, aren't there?
I was thinking we should have a (temporary) sub-fora for each active game and then one permanent Archive sub-forum to put the completed or inactive game threads in. But maybe we just have all the 'archive' threads in the TW RPG parent forum as you suggest.
My PM was just intended to expand upon my post in the Diet - so you can answer publicly if you prefer.
The subforums worked fine in the past. The games were the ones that became inactive very fast(except WotB that ran a year).
And it's quite logical that the game threads will be moved here when the games end.
No problems with the subforums that I recall.
What would people think of a new subforum for V&V separate from the archive?
Although I am not playing V&V, I have followed it from the start. It's own forum could attract people to join the game. The same goes for any other big game.
Much easier to introduce/advertise a game like this in it's own fora than in a generic forum like this.
True, and I think especially having multiple rpgs it's best if they all have their own subforums apart from an "archive" one. If Cecil is for it I'll request one for both rpgs.
I'm quite happy for the games to get their own subforums; I think it will function as an extra bit of advertising.
Ouch, this will be a bad turn for Von Essen. I waited to late to check on something :sweatdrop:
I have a ooc request to make about the recruiting procedure for the Reichsmarshall. Could it possibly be changed so that I have permission extending over several turns or something like that. I have missed several turns now because I have missed the deadline after waiting for a response about recruitment.
Do the current rules specifically say by turn? I tried to give a "till end of term" permission.
Guys, I'm really sorry for the delay. I accidentally stepped into something IRL that has proven to require much more of my time than I thought. I've taken steps to alleviate the situation, and will get the turn up as soon as I can find the time.
No problem mate, we're standing by. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
Ugh, this is the worst possible timing I can imagine. I really want to fight this battle (seriously, I've been waiting for about 3 months) but the other day, as I mentioned in the Levantine Struggle thread, my Kingdoms disc chipped and now my computer won't recognize it. I've been around looking for cheap replacements but all of my local stores either don't stock Kingdoms or bundle it with Medieval 2 and Rome and are selling for $30 (which I absolutely refuse to pay considering I have all four games).
I'm probably just going to have to bite the bullet and buy it off Steam, but please don't skip me just yet.
It seems to be ten bucks on Steam. I haven't used a steam version of M2TW or Kingdoms but I have heard it presents problems with some mods. They're fixable but you may find it annoying getting it to work. Someone who knows more about that could probably correct me.
On Amazon you can get it for 7.44 but one-day shipping will cost you extra..
In GamersGate M2TW Gold Edition is listed €9.95. I think GG is better option than Steam.
Alright, thanks guys, I'll try that. Anyone know if I have to uninstall my (disc) game first?
Alright, bullet bit. If all goes well I'll be ready to fight in a few hours.
Quick update: I'm in the process of downloading the game, but apparently my connection doesn't like whatever server it's downloading from as it seems to crap out every 300mb or so. It's very slow going, but I'm hopefully going to get the entire thing downloaded tonight before I go to bed and will then install the LTC mod/play the save sometime tomorrow.
Again, really sorry for the delay. This is pretty much the worst possible timing I could think of. :sweatdrop:
Cecil, your mini-names mod is no longer available, but I'm not going to wait any longer to fight this. Will DL and battle in a little bit.
-edit- Actually wait, crap, whenever I click to play the save the game goes back to the main menu. Could this possibly be because of the mini mod?
That is what happens when you try to load a incompatible save, so it likely is because of the mini mod/
In retrospect, it would have been better just to modify the file that gives the HRE a family tree. Oh well, here are the files. Extract them to the data folder of LTC.
Ugh, installed the mini mod and still have the same problem. Were there any other changes made that could make the save incompatible with my game?
I'm sorry this keeps dragging out, guys. If this takes much longer, I have half a mind to just have Cecil autoresolve it and then write a nice death scene for Heinrich. Hopefully it won't get to that point though.
This sucks I know, but did you try reinstalling everything yet? I mean M2TW as well as Kingdoms, and then isn't there a patch that needs to go on top of that before you install the mod?
It's M2TW Gold edition, so I assumed it was fully patched. I'll do a reinstall anyway just to cover everything though.
I thought there was a post-Kingdoms patch but it's been so long since I installed that I may have forgotten..
oh, yes, there is. It is the 1.5 patch which you need!
Wow, I'm an idiot. :wall: Thanks, guys, seriously. Seeing as it's nearly 5am right now for me, we'll leave off with this and Heinrich will fight the damn thing tomorrow. :charge:
Freaking. Finally. Save sent back to Cecil, TCV's up next (don't know if we have to go through Cecil or not first, if not just DL 37-7 from the directory).
I'll try to get a battle report of this up in the next couple of days. Thanks again for your patience, guys.
I'll wait until Cecil answers that, and since that's not likely to be tonight, I'll take it tomorrow. I'm glad this game is back on track again.
Can I assume that the Poles were sent packing and that the Kaiser lives? I want to make a Diet post but I don't want it to be wildly inaccurate...
For future reference, I'm fine with someone directly taking the save if his avatar is in command of a defensive battle. Much quicker that way.
Yeah, and hey! The turn isn't even over yet. Zagreb is now being assaulted! (It's a captain vs. captain battle though.)
As you may know already, I know very little about M2TW or LtC (or auto-calcing in general for that matter), so it's hard for me to tell, but I think we might just lose. They outnumber us in everything and in total by almost 250; most of their infantry are alsobeing of ever so slightly higher qualitybetter than ours thanks to 1 chevron, and one that looks very good indeed (15 attack IIRC). The in-game balance-o-meter says 1:1, though.
Hmmm, we might be alright - defenders tend to be favoured in siege defence when the odds are equal-ish...
I was one tile away from the sieging army, apparently the wrong tile to reinforce from...
The sieging stack could be a problem if I lose the troops in Zagreb, but I do recall a bigger one nearby. I took too long checking up on something before I could take the save and hire some mercs to fight off the siegers. I'll consider myself lucky if none of those stacks attack me before the turn ends.
So has anyone seen our good Margrave's controller, the Celtic Viking?
He seems to have gone missing.
TCV is online right now if you need him for something.
But I think this game is currently with Cecil, if that's what you were asking. He told me yesterday he'd be moving the game along today.
You wish I was missing, but you won't get rid of me that easily. Cecil does indeed have the save, but if there's something else you want from me, just ask and I might oblige.
:)
I do wish it, but isn't the turn waiting on you to fight a battle?
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...Reports/page12
No, he fought that already and sent the save to Cecil as I understand it.
Yes, that's correct. Working on the save now, BTW.
ahh ok, no problem then :)
This is a bit out of the blue, but I seem to remember incidents in the past where a general has died without there being a clear indicator as to why or when. Can anybody remember when/if this has happened?
EDIT: As might have been supposed, this is related to a possible problem with the save that needs to be resolved before it can posted.
I'm in shock! I swear I was still alive at the end of that battle.
What should we do? Go with it? Replay?
Bad news guys, unless we want to live in a world where the Margrave is next in line to the throne I'm going to have to replay my battle to correct this apparent bug.
Which means you guys also need to replay...
I'll get onto it asap tonight when I get home from work.
Isn't the Margrave outside the royal family? :clown:
On the family tree tag does it say what the Prince "died" from?
Would I have whistled innocently if I had? :clown:
Where were they NB?
A bit north of Innsbruck I believe.
