Poor young woman.
Ah, well. Tragic accidents because of beliefs...
Scientology is just another cult, this proves it.
"But a spokeswoman for Scientology's Australian arm, Vicki Dunstan, said she doubted the family belonged to the church. It had no knowledge of them and had never had contact with them."
Classy. Nothing like distancing yourself from a problem you created. I'm sure if they had been practicing Scientology "correctly," this would not have happened, right?
Hail Xenu!

Even if the Scientologists are telling the truth about not being affiliated with these people-which I doubt-they do hate psychiatry, right? So what these people were doing was in line with their beliefs.
Devils Advocates Mode
Did she kill anyone while she wasn't taking anti-psychotic drugs? No.
Did she kill anyone after taking anti-psychotic drug? Yes.
So the scientologists are going to use this as vindication that their system works.
Devils Advocates Mode off

Scientology cult scientology evil cult.
Sorry - just doing my little bit to keep the Google cult ranking up for the business execs of xenu.
Fair enough Idaho, because that's exactly what it is. An evil money stealing cult.
Meh, an evil cult is what the large religion calls the small religion.

But even our atheist government called Scientology an evil cult, does that make atheism a large religion?

That is the reward of being the first.
I'm with Louis on this. It amuses me when people laugh at all of the "Hail Xenu!" stuff, but then will brook no criticism of their own, mainstream religion.

Do you mean things like the Pope saying condoms are bad? I wouldn't say that's comparable to this case because there are enough other ways to not get STDs. As a "virgin" I know what I'm talking about.:juggle2: :laugh4:
Doesn't mean I'm a fan of the Pope or catholicism, I just think they're treating their members in somewhat more humane ways.
As much as I loathe scientology, I don't think this incident can be used to condemn them. This is a very rare example of human behavior. It is simply not possible to say, nor reasonable to assume, that psychiatric care would have prevented this degradation. Outside of the fact that if she had been locked up, she would not have been able to hurt anybody. Psychiatric facilities are prisons first and not pleasant places for the jailed or the jailer.

Doesn't mean I'm a fan of Martin Luther though...:laugh4:

Scientology is still of course evil, and there are plenty of other reasons to take action against it.

Scientology is just a the same jibberish that 2000 years from now people will be wearing drinking wine and calling it the blood of Hubbard. Yawn....:book:

On topic: Back to the grounds of where religious freedom stops and concern for life begins. Clearly this case is far off the left field on the issue. The poor woman.
The article's writing does seem a bit sensationalized, though.
