Even though it's horrible, all I can say is I told you so and that's what you get for denying help because of your ridiculous beliefs.

Classy. Nothing like distancing yourself from a problem you created. I'm sure if they had been practicing Scientology "correctly," this would not have happened, right?

Woah. You'd think her parents might have relented a bit earlier if she was coming out with stuff like this.

Even if the Scientologists are telling the truth about not being affiliated with these people-which I doubt-they do hate psychiatry, right? So what these people were doing was in line with their beliefs.

Did she kill anyone while she wasn't taking anti-psychotic drugs? No.
Did she kill anyone after taking anti-psychotic drug? Yes.

So the scientologists are going to use this as vindication that their system works.

    Devils Advocates Mode off

Ignoring that it takes weeks for the drugs to stabilise, and should be done with guidance from a medical practitioner.

Actually, that was my first thought when I read the article. Scientology can even use this to prove their point.

But even if she did kill after she had begun taking the drugs, she would never have decayed so fast or so greatly if she had had the proper help and care. So IMHO Scientologists can go cram it.

    And the other way around.

But even our atheist government called Scientology an evil cult, does that make atheism a large religion?

No, it means that secular governments are most of the time too scared to stand up to the excesses of large organised religions also.

Does that mean child molesting catholic priests are not being imprisoned or islamic terror cells are left alone? Or what are the excesses of modern mainstream religions?
Do you mean things like the Pope saying condoms are bad? I wouldn't say that's comparable to this case because there are enough other ways to not get STDs. As a "virgin" I know what I'm talking about.

Doesn't mean I'm a fan of the Pope or catholicism, I just think they're treating their members in somewhat more humane ways.

As much as I loathe scientology, I don't think this incident can be used to condemn them. This is a very rare example of human behavior. It is simply not possible to say, nor reasonable to assume, that psychiatric care would have prevented this degradation. Outside of the fact that if she had been locked up, she would not have been able to hurt anybody. Psychiatric facilities are prisons first and not pleasant places for the jailed or the jailer.

Dude there's a big step between believing curing sickness and aliens loaded into D60s or whatever and dropped into volcanoes. But your right in that it is so incredibly hypocritical of people if they can't take criticism of their beliefs. So I don't mind if you criticise what I believe, because in some cases it deserves criticism.

It is not the strange beliefs of the cult of Scientology that make it dangerous, but the practicies of the organisation. Threats, intimidation, extotion and control of information about what they do and difficulty of leaving.

I think that this is it. The one instance which is the topic of this thread and the one additional instance cited in the mini-"documentary" linked by TB of "Scientology-induced" psychotic killing rage are isolated and poorly understood.

Scientology is still of course evil, and there are plenty of other reasons to take action against it.

Its like that for all religions. The fear of the unknown of death has drawn humans to make up all these fairy tales. When people realise that their existence means nothing, that your moment in time is just that, then true liberation from the horrors of this world (and of death) is the real gift. I urge everyone to turn their back on their particular dogma and prepare for their end by ignoring it because it doesn't make a difference.

Scientology is just a the same jibberish that 2000 years from now people will be wearing drinking wine and calling it the blood of Hubbard. Yawn....

On topic: Back to the grounds of where religious freedom stops and concern for life begins. Clearly this case is far off the left field on the issue. The poor woman.

The article's writing does seem a bit sensationalized, though.
