Legionaries in the Republican period wore Mail and the Montefortino Helmet. Segmentata is a later invention outside the timespan of EB.

In this picture they also wear monterfino helmet and I doN't think the armor is a lorica segmentata. But I haven't used these soldiers in game yet and I'm not a historian. I'd like to be enlightened about this though...
I think that IS the montefortino helmet. not sure. That armour is Chain mail, or Loica Hamata if you want to sound clever.Quote:

Well, for one thing they didn't have EB's researchers. For another, the people who have a decent knowledge about ancient history, much less care about it, are only a small part of the gaming community. If CA had taken EB's stance on lorica segmentata, their forums would have been turned into a warzone by Rome fanboys. The people who care about historical accuracy generally don't expect to see it in computer games. The few games that are accurate tend to be niche products. Amongst mainstream games, R:TW is one of the more accurate ones. Few games include chainmail-wearing legionary cohorts.
And even less include Polybian legions.
or the British headhunter units who supposedly threw enemy heads that did more damage than artillery units. :dizzy2:

I started playing EB back when it was first released to the public (0.7ish?) and I've never played vanilla since.
