CO (Commanding Officer) Explanation- Each CO has special power, each CO is different from the other. Picking a CO specific CO for each map and/or is paramount for victory in Advanced Wars. It is CO powers that can turn the tables of a game, rescuing you from the jaws of defeat to giving a crushing blow on your opponents (For example, imagining you are CO Eagle, and have a large air force, but your opponent's army is about to capture your base, and all your airforce isn't enough to destroy his army capturing your HQ.

Furthermore, some CO's powers make some units stronger and other weakers, and you have to take into account that. For instance, I used CO Sonja in the First Great Orgah War because the map had fog of war, and Sonja's powers allow my troops to view further into the Fog of War. Now if the map had no fog of war, her powers would be useless. Thus you have to pick a CO according to the map situation.

Created two public 1v1 orgah games. One with fog, another without fog.

It seems we think alike. I figured this map, being large, land-based, and full of open space, would totally lend itself to a tank-based fight. Thus, I picked Jess for maximum tank pwnage. For most other games, when in doubt I use Sasha.

Dear Sigurd,

As Chaotix pointed out, I was referring to myself as a 'n00b', but as with all words deemed offensive, it is the way they are used rather than the word itself which can cause offence. I have an inbred cynicism for most rules, but where their application of them is obviously the sign of a healthy and vital gaming community, I am of course happy to adhere, courteously :laugh4:, to guidelines.

I certainly didn't cause any offence to myself by branding my inexperience of AWBW firmly on my sleeve, and hope there was no lasting damage done to the sensibilities of my fellow Orgahs, or indeed the loving Moderators, who give of their own hearts and souls to ensure that this place is a happy place. It's YLC up, not me. :P

I read the rules i think (and there werent many) but im still confused, like in the middle the number 99 keeps coming up, i go to drag the number of try something but, nothing happens :inquisitive:

99? O_o You just have to click on Factories. It gives you a list of units possible to build, and their costs. Afterwards, these units appear on your battlemap. You have to wait until next turn to get them moving. The next turn, you click on the units and select move, and some red squares appear, indicating to where they can move in that turn. If you move Infantry or Mech to empty cities or factories, you can click on the units again and order them to capture the building. It depends on how much energy your unit has. Every building has 20 capture points, and if your units are at full HP (10), you capture the building in two turns, and it starts giving you funds to build more units. If your unit has less energy, than it takes more than two turns to capture the building (Depending on the health of the unit which is capturing the building). For instance, if one Infantry unit you built was to capture a building, but had suffered damage from an attack and had only 6 HP, then it would take 6 Capture points per turn, taking 4 turns to capture the building (Reaching the 20 points).

:P I'm planning, if this Advanced Wars thingy catches on in the Game Room, to start the very first Orgah Advanced Wars Tournment around the summer. By then many of the beginners will already have several months of advanced wars experience and we shall know who is the surpreme Orgah champion. :P

boudica, you better start capturing some cities in our 1v1 or your not gonna last very long. (That means going out on an all out offensive).

I think your overall strategy was too careful. You wanted to conserve your strength, and that had swayed you from capturing the base on the left side of the map, just because I placed a tank near there. With 2 Infantry and 1 Tank, I should hardly have captured it. I was there with the tank to try and delay your advance, but apparently you gave up on the idea altogether, and you shouldn't have done that. :P

Now with me gaining twice as much funds as you (And next turn will win even more than twice), and these piling up daily, with the addition that you are advancing slowly to try and not lose many men, will in a handful of turns be a permanently lost situation. With my Superpower bar almost filled up, if I capture a few more cities, I'll activate my Superpower and four Md.Tanks will spawn in those cities which will effectively overwhelm your forces. So my suggestion is going berserk and trying to capture some cities fast.

Thanks for the advice - I am resigned top losing this one, but I didn't really have a clue about how i'd lost it. Just working out how units engage etc. and how long they last. It's not exactly the most intuitive game, but that's why i'm keen to play a few quick 1 vs 1's to get the hang of it.

Now other units, like our tanks for instance use ammo to shoot their cannons. For instance we used one ammo of our tank units when I attacked your tank, and your tank counter-attacked, since the cannon is the Primary Weapon of the tank unit. However when I attacked your Infantry with my tank, my tank used the Secondary weapon, which is machine rifles (Used against Infantry or Mech units), which don't use any ammo, so I didn't lose any ammo while attacking your infantry with my tank. To resupply your units with both fuel and ammo, either let them stay in any of your buildings for a turn (They also heal 2 HP per turn if your unit's damaged) in any of your properties; or you can use an APC, which has the supply ability, which fully resupplies all of your adjacent units with fuel and ammo, regardless of how much fuel and ammo the APC has.

4. Finally, you built an Artillery, which is an indirect unit, which attacks differently from the rest of the units. Artillery, Rocket and Missile are indirect units, meaning that they attack from a distance and don't suffer any counter attack. You can check their range by clicking on them and clicking range. Artillery has a relatively poor range and firepower when compared to the Rocket. Missile can only attack air units, but it has a great range and it takes down any air unit within range that you attack. Also indirect units can't fire upon adjacent squares (As you'll see in their range), and the catch is that you can't move and fire the units in the same turn. To fire with an indirect unit, they can't move that turn. Other than that, Artillery does one hell of a damage to armored units (Rocket does even more). Indirect units are crucial in foggy games, since as long as you see who you are attacking with indirect fire, they might not even know from where they are being hit (In foggy games, units in forests can't be seen unless by another player unless one of his units is standing right next to the forest, so you can cripple an army with indirect fire and they won't even know from where they're getting hit. :P)

B-Copter is the standard attack helicopter. Does a lot of damage to Infantry and Armored units alike. It can't attack planes though.
Transport Copter is used like an APC, to transport units. I don't remember if they can take one or two units, but I think it's just one. They can sweep through mountains and are very resistent to attack from land units (Except of the AntiAir ones)
Fighter is the ultimate air-to-air unit. It doesn't attack any land unit but crushes other air units easily. It can't be attacked by B-choppers, only by land AntiAir (AA) units or by other fighters. It's very costly, but it can easily take down pesky B-copters easily.
Bomber is likewise, the ultimate air-to-land unit. It provokes an insane amount of damage to any land unit whatsoever, either destroying or badly damaging a land unit in one attack. It can't attack other air units, but it can't be attacked by choppers either, only by Fighters and AA units.
I don't know about Stealth. Never played it in a game. I suppose its like the Bomber or sorts.

Nicely tried boudica, but I had gained superiority in terms of air power and since my AA were practically besieging your airport and I was pumping out Bombers per turn, I had already won. :) Apparently the foggy game is being more of a challenge. :)

Bah. A stupid bug in the first "Orgah War" game is not allowing me to destroy Ares' Md Tank, even though my own tank is sitting right next to it and ready to attack. I cannot take back the move, either.

Destroy my Md, or spare me, Ares, the choice is yours, but either way you now have the advantage of anticipating my oncoming onslaught.

It isn't a bug. >_> In foggy games, you can only attack targets you previously were seeing. If you happened by chance to move right to the next square that his tank stood on, you can't attack him. Only if you had, say a scout which was already showing the tank. Then you could move in and attack. Same goes for moving into or through a foggy square with a unit already on it. In that case, your unit will lose its turn and stand right next the square with the unit you intended to go. It's the "Ambush!" thingy.

Is that it? For some reason, I don't remember it being that way in the actual game... or perhaps it was that the fog didn't lift till after your unit "waited". In either case, it threw me off.

Nahhh - you had that won as well :D Thanks for the introduction to the game though - I look forward to playing more... maybe with a few people closer to my level first though :D

Interesting point about the fog and attacking when 'ambused' I'd thought something was broken too:shame:
