Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
For those of you who don't know, I am Zain host of the Orgah Battle Royale. It is currently running and is quite successful at this time.
I would like some suggestions on the game for round 2. I would like to keep it the basic idea, "Survival Mode" but aside from that I have a few ideas being tossed around. :juggle2:
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? :idea2: I will take all of them into consideration. :2thumbsup:
Thank you all!
-edit-
I would also like to make this a place for discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the initial Battle Royale. Feedback about these things will help me develop a new and improved version.

I could use some nucoolear weaponz

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
How about populating the map with afew landmarks? It would make it more likely for people to encounter eachother while trying to loot them so there'd be more action.

I have thought about making the weapons situation based less on mere luck and more on a money system. This would involve having weapon stands in a few places on the battlefield and thus would be a great spot for ambushes and whatnot.
Other landmark ideas would be good too.
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Landmarks worked really well in the earlier incarnations of the game, and it became necessary to search for weapons and improvise a bit.

What exactly are you saying here?

Earlier incarnations of Battle Royale often had buildings (hospitals, warehouses, etc.) where you would be more likely to find equipment. You could also blow them up, if you had the tools. They also made great ambush spots, since multiple players would usually make a beeline for them.

Sounds good. I am working on a more professional map as well as more evaluated rules. I want to make the battles somewhat mathematical as well.

I agree with the above, but make sure tactics and orders still play a part. Trying to find a counter to your opponents possible strategies is half the fun. Plus I love coming up with fun ways to turn all the stuff I find into weaponry. and of course I love obsessively creating a battle strategy I think is right for the occasion.

Half the fun for me is coming up with the fights in accordance to the battle plans players send into me, so making the battles mathematical might kill the fun.
Idea duly noted.

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
yeah long detailed orders should definitely be rewarded

Though perhaps not TOO detailed. He does have to do 23 of them :laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:

Right now my system consists of the Luck attribute connected with the length of the PM deciding on random events. It seems to be working but some people may feel a bit cheated. There are more nights to be had
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Also, the earlier games were hosted by Myddraal and Roadkill I believe, so if you're still looking for tips you could try shooting one of them a pm. Not sure if Roadkill is still around, but I believe Myddraal is, he just doesn't frequent the gameroom regularly.

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
I thought of another idea.
Giving each player a sub-mission. What are your thoughts on this? :book:
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Have crossbows and swords randomly placed on the map :2thumbsup:
Hey that's not a bad idea though.

TBH I don't find this an attractive idea for a game.
Something that worked well in the previous games was giving players food, and they had to consume some food every turn. This forced people to search houses/risk going to wells (Which I poisoned with sleeping pills and laxatives...)/other such things. Thus people were forced to fight each other over these strategic areas.

Consumable product for survival only available in specific areas. I see. :coffeenews:
BR2 will be in a different setting and I'm sure this will come into play.

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Also I'd just like add that I made a pretty important edit to my first post. Please take a look.

While having food and such is a good idea having only one place in which to aquire it is not

There will probably be 1 place to acquire food per 4 or 5 people that begin playing.
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Maybe one decent place like a house for every 4 people and then a few extra spaces with a little food.
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
I'd also like to make this thread a signup thread for the new version. Please signup if you'd like to be reserved a spot.

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Reserved.
And an idea that i was going to incorperate into my games was where basically everyone starts in one location. In that location, there is a huge trove of valuable materials (called the Cornucopia), like medicine, weapons, food. The Cornucopia is plainly visible to everyone. At the start, you are forced to decide, do I go for the trove and try to fight it out? Or do I flee and live, but end up with just materials I can find?

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
can we have like contingency plans. Like if you dont turn in orders can you have a certain action you always take?
like saying if i dont send in orders i will set up in ambush or hide, or sleep

Yes but they would only be able to be done one time in a row, so that say if a person isn't able to make it to the computer one time, that is excusable. But if someone just quits playing, having good backup orders that go into play every turn could allow them to win. I will not allow someone who is not at least somewhat active to win.
Good idea though :2thumbsup:
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
of course i agree with that other portion. But like a just in case sort of idea.
not that it matters for me as ive found out.... i was just played like a fiddle.

I really enjoyed your fighting style, and a backup plan just in case you couldn't send in orders might have saved you had you mentioned something as simple as "keep my eyes open for an ambush".
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
yeah well i hope this game ends soon because i want to play again
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
I like CountArach's idea.
Also, why don't we have it so that one person kills during the night phase, and the rest of us vote during the day to....oh wait

Hey, Zain,
If I'm not on the reserve list already due to that PM, please put me on it now. Thanks! :2thumbsup:

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Zain!
I've been tossing the idea of hosting another BR around my mind for a while, but I can't do any hosting for a month. However I have a lot of ideas (which are a surprise ), a nice, pro looking map ready for launch and a lot of enthusiasm for hosting these games (I had a great time hosting).
However these games are always a big workload for the host, so if you'd be interested in co-hosting a BR with me I'd be a very happy man. I'm not free for a month, but after that... what do you say?

I will be gaining hosting experience until then! Contact me when you are ready!
What type of game is it exactly so I can avoid it? Will it be another Island BR or something else?
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
Basic concept is the good old island BR, with the basic rules and set-up identical to the previous Battle Royale inspired games I hosted. Actually I posted a thread talking about the possibility a while back, but never got around to starting the game. Here's that thread:

I see, I've seen that thread before. I will avoid that type of game and by that time we will both be full of ideas and throw out the largest game ever seen here in the gameroom!
Besides a few I've seen... :sweatdrop: Those would be a chore to beat!

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
In!
I'd like it if there were ulterior motives too, personal goals and vendettas aside from just killing each other, that would make it a little interesting :P
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
And actually telling me how everyone found all the swords
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
By having a good luck stat.
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
What would classify as "a good luck start?"
8? 9? 25?
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
I would assume about 8 I've got that and well I'm still alive which I count as lucky. That and the small arsenal I'm collecting is pretty cool.
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
I have good luck but all I got was a lousy tee-shirt.

I've discovered that the stats haven't made much impact in the game afterall. It's more in the detail the players give me that give me accurate fight sequences. If someone says, "Go to C3 and attack" compared to someone who sends me a paragraph or 10 (It's happened!) the second person will probably win, no doubt.

The first Battle Royale has been very impactful for me and It will make the next game that much more fun and balanced. If Atheotes sends in his order, I can get a write-up done tonight and the new game's rules and sign-ups set up tomorrow.
I'm not sure if that would happen or not though.

I give like a paragraph or two... :sweatdrop:
What do they do, detail every step they take with their feet?

I give a paragraph for each different combat situation I can think of, one for movement and looking for weapons etc., and one for a calling card which I had to abandon when the map got smaller.
So 4-6 paragraphs seems reasonable to me:beam:
-
Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
i am surprised i survived till the last round.... the only reason i survived is because i never met anyone :laugh4:
my first day order was 6 words including move, look and kill... :beam:
i have now progressed to have about 5-6 lines... so i am really looking forward to the winner's final order. :smash:

Re: Orgah Battle Royale II Symposium
There are two things that I seem to remember from hosting:
1) Longer orders consider more possibilities which means that in general the person who sends the longer orders will win the round. Though it's important to note that it's not actually the length of the order which is the determining factor, but rather the thought that has gone into the order. A clever but short order will beat an irrelevant essay, but it usually happens that those that give more thought to their orders will also end up writing more.
2) As a host, subconsciously, you feel more inclined to favour those who put effort into your game. Those who send two line orders seem to be taking the piss a bit and as a result will not be favoured by the host, however impartial they try to be.

Ambushes worked for the setting you all were placed in.
But the next island may not be so thick in vegetation, creativity and effort will go a long way in all of my games.
