This always bugs me. What is the point of opening Acrobat Reader from an icon? So you can then go File->Open-> ? The whole point of filename extensions in Windows is to circumvent the need for this kind of clutter. I always delete shortcuts to Reader, WMC, and other "viewer" type links on the desktop.Quote:

Indeed, I use a lot of pdf's in my work and I just double click the actual file I want to use either from the file browser or when I downloaded the pdf.Quote:

Hah, you should set up other accounts for wife/kids to use. For my laptop, I have a login named "Alternative" which I make Secura use if she comes here. Stops her messing around with my machine. :tongue:

I use XP still, since my computer is too old for Windows 7; I don't plan on getting a new computer anytime soon, since my computer atm is already awesome as it is (I mean, how can you not think that after every computer expert says mine runs faster than most computers being sold today? :jester:)

God I am such a nerd. I put my stuff on the oceans to keep it from screwing too much with the map, making my entire desktop as inconvenient as hell. I just throw whatever I use often up there, so not the most compact and efficient way to go about things. :tongue:

At my old job, I had a cool picture of Ken Masters. But seriously, I went 2 months without seeing my desktop, that ended yesterday.
As for the launching programs debate, I use a free program called Launchy
Alt+Space and I just type in whatever the program is.

You can get a lot of different and good pictures for free from there (you don't need to sign up, only for a greater range).
As for the Toolbar on the side. With Widescreen, it makes no sense for the bar to be at the bottom, as it takes up the vertical size realestate, which is in much demand.
Looking at some of the pics here I notice lots of you have loads of files and folders on your desktops.
I have heard (and I'm pretty sure it's true) that all files and folders on your desktop are loaded into memory when you log in using your user profile. This means that storing lots of files on your desktop will not only dramatically slow down your log in time, but it will also reduce the memory available for your other programs.
Keep your desktops clear of clutter!
Shortcuts are tiny so shouldn't be a problem, but I find a cluttered desktop an annoyance more than anything else, so personally I don't have any icons on my desktop.
