Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
After speaking to one of my friends about women earlier, I realized that ever man I know (who has ever made mention of it) prefers very 'delicate' women who don't have a lot of muscle or thick bones. I guess I am weird in that respect, as I am very much attracted to strong women (not bulky, but strong) who are well muscled. I honestly have almost no respect for any adult (man or woman) who has a hard time lifting a milk-jug, and yet my friend was telling me how sexy it was that his girlfriend had a hard time putting a gallon of milk into a shopping cart!
It reminds me of another experience I had when a VERY sexy lady from my TKD class was being made fun of by other women because she had 'guy-like' biceps. She is a tiny (literally barely above my waste) woman with a small frame, but well muscled. There was nothing about her body that was not feminine, yet she stopped lifting because she did not like how 'guy-like' her biceps were.
I for one like a woman to have some muscle! In fact, I honestly am not at all attracted to women who have boney arms!
So here is the question, do you like strong women, or do you like 'delicately built' women? Also, do you think that a woman being very strong diminishes her 'feminitity'?

Okay, i'll bite.
Being bisexual I don't usually date women, but when I do, i go for the softer look. Muscles are nice too but there's such a thing as too much. Depends on the person i guess.

So you think it is a more pleasing look then?
I see things differently, I cannot like someone's looks if I do not respect them (because of the association), and I have a hard time respecting people who never use their brain or people who never use their body (too many times I find people of whom both can truthfully be said).
Let me ask you, can you think highly of a woman who is very weak?

So its not so much about the look, but the actual strength someone has. Not sure where you fixation on power comes from.
I suppose next you're going to tell me she has to beat you in a fight to the death in order for you to become interested, in some kinda strange, reverse Red Sonja thing?
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
If she can tear my head off, that is fine. If she cannot tear my head off, that is fine as well. I am honestly much more worried about what is going on in her head, and my tastes, as such, are quite...varied. A look at those I have dated yields nothing except to say that I am not gay. : /

lol, I did not say that she has to be a body builder. It is not strength I am fascinated with, but character that I respect. Hard work develops character. Someone who has never done anything their whole life has not had that character building experience, and I find it hard to respect them.

Ah, I see now. Returning to the question you asked me in this context then, do I want my partners to have respect for themselves? Of course I do. Though, I don't expect them to be hitting the gym five times a week and taking a fighting techniques class. I have reasonable standards and they've done right by me, mostly.

oh thought it was personality because thats what i look for first
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
Shoulders. I love a woman with great shoulders.
Not big and muscular, just... nice athletic female shoulders.
Mmmmmmmm. :sunny:
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
In physical terms, 'delicate' no question.
In personality terms... I'm going for some sort of third way option. It would be nice if she was strong/independent but not be a ***** about it, and still be caring/nice (and generally not like me, lol).
In fact that's my only criteria in terms of a woman's personality. Don't be like me! Can't really go wrong with that...
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
Depends, although generally I prefer more delicate girls. Most of my ex-girlfriends don't have much in common with one another physically, but there's a general idea that I don't usually go for very athletic girls. I don't know why, probably it's because I'm afraid they'd knock me out with their breasts or something. I'm not really a very muscular guy either way.
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
What am I attracted to? A pluse!
Lol, I have a million of these
I suppose I like athletic women, I never bought into the whole oppisites attract baloney and I lead a pretty active life, so I couldn't see myself being with a woman who is a shut in
I also like books and would love to have girl whom enjoyed them as much as I did
Basically I am the epitome of a reniscance man and yet to have found my feminie equal
So I settle for a toothy smile, soft skin, and smell good

Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
I think the thread title should have been "what characteristics generally attract you to the opposite sex?"! :P
To be honest, regardless of my partner's gender, their physical strength is irrelevant; I think that there are more important qualities to look at in a potential partner.
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
Sorry, but this poll is pretty much meaningless. In more ways than one. What is "Strong", what is "Delicate"? And that is the only two criteria?
Anyway,
My so-called delicate woman is strong. It is not the size of the dog in the fight, it is the fight in the dog.

mary mother of god I groaned when I saw this in the frontroom but I wasn't expecting anything this bad.
Anyway, to answer OP's question, OP's question is a false, misogynistic dichotomy. If we're talking characteristics, then intelligence is definitely the number one factor for me - smart girls make me melt, no question about it. If we have to talk about physical characteristics, then definitely legs.

Come on Sub. Let's get serious here. Intelligence is a huge factor for me, too, but I won't fall in love with a girl that doesn't look pretty. It's just how it works, hmm?
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
I'm not saying that it's the only factor, just the most important one. Sure, there are definitely girls who are very attractive who aren't very smart, or just average, but I could never see myself in love with such a girl. Could I fall in love with a plain but fiercely intelligent girl? I'd like to think so, but I honestly couldn't say for sure.
In reference to the OP though, intelligence trumps delicateness/strength - I couldn't care less which of the latter the girl in question is (Outside bizarre extremes such as steroid-pumped weightlifters and that kind of thing, but then I'm guessing they were never being considered anyway).
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
Of the two choices provided, I chose "makes no difference" because I like my women intelligent and great personality. Looks are good too.

I've always preferred women with dark hair, not sure why. That's not to say there aren't attractive blondes and redheads and whatnot, I just like dark hair.
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
I like dark features, eyes and hair, and I prefer them to be a tad plump, not fat, just plump and soft. Sentimental, affectionate and intelligent. A good moral fabric is also appealing.

I never said that physical characteristics were more or less important than beliefs, intelligence, etc. I was simply specifically examining the subject of muscularity, as it is something that has surprised me recently in life.

I will agree that it is not necessarily as simple as A=1, but there is definitely a trend that I have observed that people who have a lot of responsibility and work hard when they are young generally have a lot more of a clue than others, and are a lot better people. (and less likely to engage in behaviors that I would consider depraved) Working hard also really builds a mindset and a set of values that I greatly value. It is not about (as Subotan was saying) what she looks like, but what she has done and how she thinks. I am not saying that women who have not had working backgrounds are bad people, but they are less likely to have the set of values, the world view, and the common sense that I really admire. I also think that they are less likely to be good people. Trials builds moral character. Hard work does that very well. It really makes the difference between someone understanding life or not understanding life IMHO.
(and yeah, I find well muscled women to be very visually pleasing as well :P)

Although I did prefer girls that is not too big... or muscular... athletic and muscular girl reminds me of my twin sister, and I hate that kind of thinking, and also because it can become very confusing tell who is the girl if we stand together.... at least with a very delicate and feminine girl at my side, no one will think I was a girl.

Couldn't agree more.
Most people would think of my wife as "very delicate".
If you would ask me to describe how strong she is, I'd answer that she's made of steel.

Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
For about the first week after meeting them - physical appearance.
Beyond that - intelligence and personality (though physical appearance is still nice :eyebrows:)
Both are important, but you're nuts if you say physical appearance isn't a driving factor in asking someone out the first time. Well, I guess if you're dating a long-term friend, but that's not generally a good idea anyway.

I am sure that she is Andres. I have been fortunate enough to know some 'very delicate', yet very good, very strong women. My point is though that on average, I have observed that women who have done the hard work it takes to become physically strong seem to be much more likely to be more desirable in other ways as well. Physical strength means that someone has used their body for hard work, and therefore have achieved something. Mental dexterity means that someone has used their brain for hard work, and therefore has achieved something. I find both extremely worthy of respect, and together, there is nothing more attractive or worthy of respect in my mind as a woman who is both a great thinker and a great worker. I can still respect someone who only possesses one of those qualities, but not nearly to the extent as someone who possesses both. I have no respect for someone who possesses neither, for they have never used either their bodies or their brains for anything. Luckily, it seems that it is usually (though by no means always) all or none. Those who are very fit and active, and have worked hard tend to be those who are also very intelligent. Through hard work someone can become both physically and intellectually attractive.
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
thats not true at all vuk. being physically strong does not mean in the slightest they are mentally tough or smart in the slightest. "doing the work" doesnt mean anything. Physical strength most certainly does not mean they used their body for hard work such a statement is patently false.
-
Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
Since I like to go climbing once a week, it would be nice if she was either a good climber, or would be willing to climb once a week. Climbing muscles aren't bulky, more wiry. A totally muscleless woman is a turn off. I mean, you struggle to lift a 2 liter bottle? That's kinda pathetic - though I know a fair few guys like women like that.
But, obviously, being pretty is good, but intelligence and personality are long term necessities. All 3 is the jackpot!

lol, I did not say bulky though, just strong. I know women who (because of the work they do) can exert enormous amounts of strength, but do not look esp strong. And yeah, it would be nice to find a woman who loves practicing martial arts. ~;)

Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
Oh yeah, another thing that hard work develops is confidence...something generally lacking, or existing in a lesser degree in women who are strangers to hard work. Confidence is a crucial part of attraction.

I prefer weak women, because I panic when women are stronger than me.
And as for physical strength, I love small women (1.50m) who look very delicate but turn out to be a real tigress in bed, strong as steel. Such as Andres' wife, who turned out surprisingly strong for her small size.

I am beyond skeptical of your observed trend. A few anecdotes do not data make.
I don't think being physically strong has any correlation whatsoever with good character. Nor do I think hard work is just of the physical variety.
Heck, look at all the ********** who work out all the time and look good but are complete *********.
I don't think simple hard labor really tests someone's character.
Also - why haven't you asked out the woman mentioned in the OP? ~;p

Re: Men, what characteristics generally attract you to women?
Oh, as for my preference, it is neither. I prefer women who are themselves as individual free-thinking individuals.
What qualities does "strong" possess in the example? It is big muscles and physical strength? A female with a stiff-upper lip?
What qualities does "delicate" possess in the example? Some one who is very weak physically? Some one who has mental dependencies?
Where does 'cute' come into it? Where does 'smart' ? Where does 'sense of humour' ? Where does 'Loyal', 'Trustworthy' and 'Honourable' lie?
The vote is completely invalid as I am under able to discern the parameters which I assess females by.
On the other-hand choosing between...

Hah! Reading almost every male opinion you all look for personality and intelligence first? Yah, sure.
If I see a lass who is, to put in delicate terms, "ill-favored physically" then I am almost certainly not going to go after her. She could be the nicest, sweetest girl in the world, but that isn't going to change anything. I'm not trying to be mean, I am being honest, but most of you are flat out lying when you say personality/intelligence is more important. It simply is a falsehood you tout to appear "nice". :beam: What I'd prefer in an ideal world, is a balance, une femme à tout faire.

It simply is a falsehood you tout to appear "nice". :beam: What I'd prefer in an ideal world, is a balance, une femme à tout faire.
Why do you hate women?

I'm a sucker for cute/delicate girls. I'd rather have a really cute girl over Adriana Lima, and I am being serious.
That being said, I chose delicate. And with delicate, she must have brains and character.

If I see a lass who is, to put in delicate terms, "ill-favored physically" then I am almost certainly not going to go after her. I've already clarified my opinion on this, so I see no other reason to comment, other than to ask why you think I care how "nice" the Guild thinks I am?

If I wanted flattery, I'd go to reddit and submit a post saying my cat died fighting Fox News. The frontroom is probably the last place I'd come seeking reassurances of my niceness.

My first thought also.
I am slightly ashamed.

To be honest, regardless of my partner's gender, their physical strength is irrelevant; I think that there are more important qualities to look at in a potential partner.
Quoted because a woman's opinion is more valuable than a man's, even though men never listen.

'tis true
I like dark haired, fair skinned girls who are relatively slight of build and usually under 5'4", I also like them to be sweet natured.
I don't want a wet blanket.
So what we have learned is that Vuk has a thing for muscles because he equates physical and emotional strenght, and the rest of us don't.
