Prologue: The Setting
"Hello, and welcome back to Radio Gameroom with our regular host, Diamondeye the DJ!"
"Thank you, JB, and welcome back to all of the listeners who didn't want to stay for the ads - I have to tell you, it's your own fault if you miss any of the exciting mafia games that are running ads on our station at the moment! Anyway, we're about to wrap up today's program so you can all have a good and quiet night of sleeping, or of performing villaineous acts under the cover of night! The last track I've got for you today is one of my personal favourites, so lean back and enjoy!"

Few, if any, of the inhabitants of the Gameroom, many of them regular listeners of the Gameroom Radio, realize exactly how the station maintains its quality programme. Many of them have wondered about it, about the strange quality of the sound, the unique touch that the tracks seem to always have, and the exquisite selection of artists that are chosen to be aired. None would be able to guess the secret that is the formula of success for the fameous station. No, it is a secret known only by the DJ, Diamondeye, and his assistant, JB.

And the artists, of course.

*Creeeeeeak*
"They've left for the night! Time to get working on tomorrow's programme! Come on out of the cabinet, everyone!"
"Chill, man, it's not like we're in a hurry or something! We've got all night - let's party!"

A skittering sound gave away the miniscule artists as they paced across the floor of the small kitchen and into the studio...

Welcome to Music Mafia!

This game takes place in a strange universe which the above prologue will gist at - don't worry, there will be more exposition and explanation in the opening post of the game itself, and in your role PMs, should you choose to play!

To get the basics out; Each player will be playing one of the artists - many of them will be commonly known musical artists, and all of them will be names taken from the real-world musical scene. It is your job - if you're a "townie" role - to make sure that Radio Gameroom makes it past the impending crisis (which will kickstart the game it-self, story-wise) and still have its reputation intact!

There will be a single untraditional, special element in the game; Each role will have two 'alignments': One which determines the opinion that the listeners have of you, and one which determines the opinion that the DJ has (or had?) of you. 'Townie' roles will have an alignment of "good" on at least one of these axises, whereas 'mafia' will have an alignment of "bad" on at least one of these axises.

I am looking for 18 players for the game, preferably. The game will probably start in a couple of days or so, providing a decent turn-up.

Clarifications on this please: It seems that if someone has

I'm glad you asked because I've gotten further with the design since that was written. The original idea was that just one "bad" was enough to be scum...

Clarification (Will also be posted in rules when game starts):
Your popularity determines your victory condition.
Your favor with the DJ determines your secondary goal (depending on your VC).
Each player will also have a "flourish", sort of like a personal goal.

Each of these require the fulfilment of the former goals. Which means there are four scores available: Loss, VC fulfilled, VC + SG fulfilled, and VC, SG and flourish fulfilled (impressive!).

It is my hope that people will aim for their SGs and so on and consider this structure from the start, as some of the roles will require some planning if you're to have a good shot at the higher scores.

Any idea when this will start? I'm a bit swamped with work these days (gotta make myself look good if I'm going to keep my position past the two month period!), so any inkling of when I can spare time to hit the thread would be awesome.

No idea. As soon as possible, ie when sign-ups are filled, approximately. I'm hoping it'll end before my large game :sweatdrop:

Great - if I can get that last sign-up, I can kick the game into motion tomorrow when I get back from work.

I'm looking forward to this. It's the first game to start post exams, hopefully I can keep up to date with it. But just note, I'll be in England from Tuesday to Thursday, but I'll try and check in at least once.

Great, Seon! The game will start some time today, I've got some other duties as well so no telling exactly when. But within the next 12 hours for certain.

Music Mafia
Begins...

The next morning, the Artists were done, and as always they were proud of their night's work. And as always, they were eager for the appreciation that they knew their DJ would pour over them when he sent their masterpieces out on the airwaves to all of the gameroom.

And sure enough, their friend was all smiles when he met, greeting them as he locked the door after letting JB in. They handed him the music disks, and he went into the small studio, JB following right behind him.

Then, they heard a strange, pounding noise, and a muffled scream. They looked nerveously at each other. Finally, one of them gathered enough courage to look into the studio. The brave Artist came back with a frightful face. "He's out cold, guys. I'm sure that JB fellow did it!"
"But where is he?"
"... I didn't see him anywhere."
"Okay, well I guess it's just up to us seventeen to run this thing until he wakes up."
"Eighteen. I count eighteen."
...

And thus, the Artists, with a known infiltrator among them, would have to take care of the Radio channel day and night until their beloved DJ woke up. And before he would, they knew they had an infiltrator to catch. Artists are rivalrous by nature, and these were no exception: Without the unifying leadership of their beloved DJ, each quickly saw the chance to win fame for him- or herself. Some might even go as far as to side with the intruder for personal gain.

They had to save the Radio Gameroom before they would all face the uncertain destiny of their DJ, surrendering their precious airwaves and the trust of their listeners to those who would seek to ruin the tastes of the innocent orgahs.

Rules:
Quoting Personal messages in private are not allowed. You may quote (and misquote) these in the public thread.

Each phase will last 24 hours, or thereabout. I will tell at the beginning of each phase how long it will be.

Voting format is as follows; vote:Diamondeye for votes, Unvote; vote:Diamondeye for unvoting and then voting.

During the next half an hour or so, Role PMs will be sent out. Everyone will receive one!

You should pay special attention to the Victory Condition, Secondary Goal and Flourish. These are what will be used for "scoring" when the game is over.
The "Good" Victory Condition is "All "Bad" Popularity players are defeated."
The "Good"/"Good" Secondary Goal is "Survive until the end of the game."
The Flourishes are different to each character, with no apparent pattern to them.

Your three goals are always inclusive, and you must fulfill the prior for the latter to count!
