You appear to have been put on a restricted posting list for that forum. I suggest you discuss this with the Frontroom moderators.
What you're seeing is basically one of the new sanctions that moderators can apply in addition to (or in lieu of) warnings/infraction points.Quote:

Nah, there really isn't anything to talk about privately with the frontroom admins. All you are going to do is lecture and make deals with me that you dont want anyone to see because it puts all of you in a bad light.

The ban isn't permanent, though the duration is ultimately up to the moderator that added you to the restricted posting list.Quote:

The Frontroom is for off-topic conversation that's too light for the Backroom so there's never going to be anything heavily philosophical or political, but if you find that people aren't talking about the sort of things that interest you, why not bring them up yourself? If you have ideas for good conversation, start the threads! If you're frustrated by these "idiotic threads", report them! :P
The thing is, there's such a marked difference between the Babe Thread and throwing out overtly graphic/sexual comments; posting a picture of Alessandra Ambrosio in her smalls is perfectly fine, commenting that you wonder how many digits you can insert into various orifices is not.Quote:

Now these threads imo were all successes, they provided me with a reason to check the Frontroom every couple hours or so. But I don't see the same kind of silly yet PG threads that can spur odd but interesting conversations from other people. I see org vs twc, 5 loooong threads that have been around for infinity because it lumps a large topic (football, language) or is a game (one word story) and Hooahguy's girl thread making 90% of what is currently active on the Frontroom (not including the stickies).
See above. But also I don't see why philosophy is automatically relegated to backroom material. There are many philosophical subjects that are not backroom level controversial. If I made a thread asking how everyone learns and it has some heavily epistemological flavor to it, why must be it be put away in the members only section?Quote:

I have no problem with the Babe thread, I just want to make it clear that the typical PI/Hooahguy thread about women is going to lead down the same road it always has and it seems absurd to sit back every time and say "Hooahguy is complaining about women? Gee, lets see how this goes..." You know, Frags had a really good woman bashing thread in the backroom, I think that establishes a precedent of where those types of threads should go.Quote:

I'm saying it is everyone's fault. People don't make interesting threads, and because of that, any thread sticks around, including the blatantly bad ones which end up having the moderators come in and temp ban people because they were talking "inappropriately" in the only interesting thread around. I have a feeling that if the moderators locked all of PI/Hooahguys/whoevers girl thread immediately and didn't let it take off, people would really start to feel the slowness and boringness of the place.Quote:

acin, I agree with you that the Frontroom can get boring for long stretches, but that's what it is, and it's always been like that. Same thing with the Backroom and the Gameroom. The Backroom especially has lost my interest, basically because we talk about the same topics over and over again.
But you can't force quality material to happen (remember that awful troll thread you made? :wall:), it has to happen organically.
And you have to be willing to take the warnings. The different point of view threads we had a while back got me my first warning point ever! Me! But it was justified. And the crime was worth the warning point. :laugh4:
Banned from the Babe Thread, life just isn't fair. However, it isn't for ever so despair not.

acin, maybe you're just not a Frontroom sort of chap? You contribute substantially to the Backroom and (after a moderately shaky start) I consider you to be one of the more interesting and challenging (in the good sense of the word) posters there. Indeed, whilst your adopted internet persona may flinch at me saying so :wink: you set an excellent example nowadays.
You take the time to frame the starting post of a thread and continue to generate interest in the subject with your often insightful responses. When someone makes a good argument, you're one of the few in our happy band to accept they may have a point.
If you don't feel motivated to do the same to help improve the Frontroom, maybe it's not the place you ought to frequent instead of getting bored and giving in to your demons. If you have some ideas that you are worried might be controversial, run them past the Frontroom moderators before posting. I'm sure they would be pleased to guide you and re-energise the Frontroom by setting as good an example as you have in the Backroom. For example, I certainly don't see any reason why philosophical discussions can't be had in the Frontroom as long as people play nicely. Sport, philosophy, holidays, relationships, cheese (the good things in life) all could provide excellent talking points. I'm sure there's plenty more.

The frontroom has gone downhill ever since anyone with a hint of the social graces has left.
Now it's just us chaps with our pony tails and ironic t-shirts, complaining about how the inequities of life continually beat us down even from the safety of mums basement
