I'VE GOT IT!!! It was easier than I thought. I just woke up today, called the games store at the mall and he said they had it. So I drove very carefully down there and walked in the store. There was no body! I expected a crowd of battling savages.... The guy was so nice. He asked me if I had the game reserved, and I said no. He still gave me a game from the stach with the reserved limited copies of the game. What a nice guy! Feel sorry for people who reserved the game well in advance. Come to think of it, I wasn't even hyped or planning on buying the game when it first came out! Sorry, but I can't wait to put it in my hard drive.
Congrats Ivan. Now the pressure is off me to be the first here at the Org with it. Actually, I'm a bit surprised no one in the eastern US got it earlier. I had planned to be at the store when it opened at 9:30am, but thanks to a bit of bad scheduling on my part, I had made an appointment for my puppy with the vet this morning.
Just remember to post about it here ;).Quote:

My son spotted it at EB and called to tell me he would get it and that I shouldn't pick it up on my way home from the office.
I got it. Woot! :balloon2:
But I’m back at work and wont be able to play unitl around 6:30pm EST. ~:mecry:
I’ll tell you about the contents tho’;
- There are 3 discs (yes 3!) in two jewel cases
- There is a manual of approx. 80 pages that reminds me of the M:TW manual
- There is an insert w/ the Roman Tech Tree on one side and a well laid out Province/City map on the other
Can’t wait for this day to be over! :charge:
~
Barkhorn.
I'm leaving right now to grab my pre-order... :)
they even included a map, thats good to hear! :laugh4:
Bestbuy doesn't have it in yet, but they say it will be in later today or tomorrow. I'll probably drop in at 6pm or so, and if they have it, stay up all night playing. ~D
2 jewelcases? ehm that seems weird. I'm probably misunderstanding, because 2 jewelcases to me means 2 dvd boxes, making Rome the first standalone game I know to have that. Most of the time its just 1 jewelcase and any CD's beyond 2 are put in paper sleeves. There are also a few jewelcases that can hold 3 CD's, so if there are truly 2 jewelcases, it seems a bit of a waste and inconvenient too (takes up more space).
I'm probably misinterpreting, so could you explain what you mean with 2 jewelcases?
Got it. Now if you'll excuse me whilst I install...
BTW Nelson, you have a fine son there!
Soulflame, there are two jewel cases in the box. One hold discs 1 & 2 in a flip out double-sided tray and the other jewel case is your typical 1 CD case. I was a little surprised at seeing 2 of them too. They both have the same exact cover so it was impossible to tell the difference until you opened them. Okay, not impossible, one is heavier than the other.
Thanks ~:). Have fun with the game ~;) Be sure to toss us some nice pictures if you have the chance ~:)
Is there a DVD editoin Greg? just asking as that would be more convinient
Got it, but it won't install, what a let down!!! ~:mecry:
Installing now... woohoo!
The map you get with it is really nice
came on 3CDs (yes, 2 jewel cases)
love the music during install, it rocks ~
**install done..time to play, dunno when I'l be back ~:joker: :charge: :duel:
I just played the Prologue! Oh, I think I am having an orgasm here! It is awesome!!! :laugh4:
My store told me to come back at 1:00 p.m. 1 1/2 hour to go for me.
that sucks - you're the second person I've heard of to say that :no:Quote:

Yes I do actually. Does that mean i should unload service pack 2? Its just that it sounds like a different problem, it doesn't even get that far in the installation that smoogs got too. Thanks for your help!!!Quote:

Update: well he could install but seems to have problem trying to start up the game is it wont recognise the cd. Might as well try to uninstall sp2 and see if it works for you.

Brilliant, I'll maybe have to uninstall SP2 and/or alcohol to play RTW? Oh well, I'll have to buy something else then.
The problem with alcohol can be fixed by no-cd cracking games, don't worry about that.Quote:

OH yes, I just phoned my local EB Games Store and they said they have loads of copies, Im picking it up in a couple of hours!1!!! ~D
Ive heard from ppl before when they bought a game and couldnt install cause of the protection the game was having, i just hope the problems with RTW are not something like that.Quote:

Loaded up a German vs Roman battle. Before battle I got an animation of my general`s speech with view down the libne of legionnairies banging swords on shields...awesome. battle map misty forest and am in a huge clearing. I face off and defeat German cav on bothe wings and swing left cav and aux into forest to be ready to flank. Skirmishing and we advance to contact....graphics just rock. Control is a little different but will be fine. I overload left and crush their flank, but mine dont hold the right long enough and a melee ensues with rallied warband holding my advance while my right runs.
Needless to say havent gotten deep in yet but so far am VERY pleased. Battle did seem faster than MTW but slower than demo. Be carefull of your cav pursuing tho, very headstrong these Romans.
I know you guys will enjoy.
Dimeolas
EB has it with promotion, strat guid and game for $62
Hmmm... won't load on my pc either and I don't have SP2. I got the following error:

removed SP2, but it still doesn't get past the "voices1.dat file. I'm so GD mad right now. :furious3:
Darn it. I'm still at work, with more delays cropping up. Argh!
yep. got it. i wasnt going to make a special trip to get it, but you guys got me hyped up, so, oh well :) besides, tosa and the moderators (sounds like a 50's lounge act, 'Tosa and the Moderators Musical Extravaganza' Now playing at the Pennyrile Parkway expressway Holiday Inn, exit 247. 3 nights only, limited admission (tickets at the door) ), would have disowned me or given me tehban! if i hadnt :)
havent tried to install yet.

Right before I went to the store I realized my hardrive needed a defrag. Well I've have it at home for 2 hours and finally the defrag is complete damm 7 year old hardrive.
Well anyways that was foolish of me to read the manual then watch TV, because I could have installed the rct3 demo the store gave me on to my wifes computer and maybe played it. As it is now my wifes gonna get home and ask me to install it while I'm playing RTW probably right in the middle of a battle too
Nevermind, turns out my dvdrom didn't like the game. Fortunately, my cdrw and RTW appear to be getting along just fine. Installed and preparing to take the first turn in my megalomaniacal journey.Quote:

Installed smoothly for me and looks good. They should have released it the same time in Europe as here. Strange they used latin for MTW and now english for RTW.Im going to start editing the text files.
Btw, Victoria sounds old. :embarassed:
I got it at EBGames just now. To my pleasant surprise I got the Bonus DVD as well.
It installed and ran perfectly on my computer, I have SP2 installed and deamon tools and it didnt complain about any of it, worked seamless.
I only played the prologue so far...The full game feels MUCH more polished and refined. I'm easily getting 30-40% improvement in framrates. Even in city battles with arty and a few thousand troops there was almost no lag at all. It's sooo awesome folks! This game is strategy game of the year easy if not out-right PC game of the year.
Got it. Installed it. It runs. And that's all I know.
P.S. It takes up 2.9 GB on the hard drive.
That is good to hear, I wonder what the difference is? Maybe I'll trot over to EB games and just have a 'look-see' if its in.Quote:

How do I get a screen capture in my post? I have SnagIt, a capture program, but I don't know how to put it in my post...
You can't attach it, so you need to have it hosted somewhere. then you can either link to it or use [img*]url[/img*]. Without the stars of course.
Maybe in another forum you can attach something, but the mods know more things about the settings ~:)
JFYI and example, in the U.S., Far Cry came in a single jewl case that held FIVE CDs. I believe in Europe, FC was distributed on a single DVD. Computer System DVD players aren't as prevelant here as in Europe.Quote:

I agree. The extra year was well worth it. Pardon me, I'm off to lay siege to the Gauls capital.Quote:

Got it, and agreed on the polish. The depth of the SP campaign is absolutely phenomenal, the battles are positively brilliant, and the music is gorgeous. Also I like the SP advisor's voice --- whoever did that voice acting did a really nice job.
I got it. I've been waiting for my cities to grow all day. 1 more turn.
i hate you all!
i've preordered, I live 10 miles from NYC. And best buy (god i hate them now) says they might have it by late friday, mid saturday.
I was going to forget about the preorder and get it from gamestop, but they wont have it till friday.
Is the whole universe against me!?!! :furious3:
got it and many 'crash-to-desk-top's' with it
Signed! Looks cool, well done CA!
I feel your pain, I was going to cancell my preorder which is to arrive tmrw and just buy it here at the store, by the time I got a phonecall into the shop to find they had millions of copies it was too l8 to cancel the preorder, on top of that I have to pay shipping for the pre-order so it would have been cheaper and would have taken less time.:( Im pretty sure I won't pre-order again for quite a while, I have a pretty good suplier here that makes sure they have plenty of the good stuff, and plus is ther not a certain amount of fun in psyching yourself up and running as fast as yuo can to make sure you get a copy?
Got it baby, and loving it! CA has done a bang up job.
Grifman
Yeah - I was into the Tutorial and decided to play until I had seiged two cities before quitting - it CTDed right before I attacked the second city. I was rather upset about that until I realized that it autosaves every turn. For that I thank CA.Quote:

Wow, total war on a laptop.
Now that's something I would like to try
I got it and so far so good. I had my first town assault, it was great street fighting, almost lost my gen when i got too hasty and rush to the center of the town ~
Got mine around 2.30pm today but my screen turns off when I open it.
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got it just now, installing as I type this.
My wife just called and said she's on her way home to play RTW. Ha ha.
So my copy will be waiting for me when I get home....
Picked it up yesterday. It is pretty good and there are some new tricks up the AI's sleeves.
No problems with the install or running so far, even though I have Win98SE. I'm using a 9800 Pro and haven't seen any red flares yet. Campaign has been stable.
Just got it over lunch at Fry's for $39.95. Full day at work unfortunately and my son has a baseball game this evening. But once everyone is tucked into bed, I'm going to install and play Ceasar all night long. Going to be a late one tonight.
I got it. YAYYYYYYYYYYY!
:balloon2: ~D ~
just wanted to complain a little.
BEST BUY SUCKS @SS!!!!
first i got a presell from them. After my order vanished from the online record i called customer support. They told me that i didn't buy the actual game i bought the presell and will have to pay $49.99 for the game when i comes out. (what the hell is a preorder then?!!) So i waited for best buy to get it.
Friday the 24 (2 days after the release) i check on bestbuy.com if my local stores got the game yet. 8 stores in a 10 mile radius around me say they have it in stock. Went to every store none of them have it. (there goes the 3 hours). And in each an every store the best buy employee told be that i can by the presell, 2 days after the game was released!!!!.
Unless some one hold a gun to my head, i will never ever shop at best buy again, and i recommend you do the same.
I hear you. I "pre-ordered" too. Called them the morning of the 23rd - after the requisite "Huh?" "What's Rome Total War?" "Do you mean Medieval?" "Oh here it is in the system - no we don't have it yet?" , I called EB Games where the woman immediatly told me - "Yes, we have multiple copies of that, I'll put one aside for you." So I spent an extra $10 bucks!Quote:

Got it. Loaded it (including with SP2 and alcohol). No problems so far. I wonder why others with systems that meet the specs have problems?
