should foriegners be allowed to vote????
This is directed mainly at non americans.....you guys seem VERY interested in american politics. Do you guys whish you could vote in our elections?
Me and (probably) every american here would be ready to start another revolution if non-americans voted in our elections.
So do you euros(and canadians etc) think you should have a say in our elections.
-
Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
No - only citizens of the nation should be allowed to vote. And yes recent legal immigrants can vote since I don't consider them foreigners but citizens.
-
Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
No, I don't think we should.
-
Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
No, we should not as it is an American President and up to the American people to decide who they want to lead them. We reserve the right to complain afterwords though.

I am COMPLETELY against having non americans vote in our elections but it seems i have seen a few non americans hint that they should be allowed to vote. I wanted to see if that is true or not and if so how many think this way.

Strange suggestion. How would we call you all idiots for electing a monkey when we had played a role in it?

The majority of the posting in here is by Americans and a great number of the threads are started by Americans. America is the last remaining superpower and is involved in two international conflicts at the moment, so quite a few non-Americans have a vested interest in American political discussions (note that I didn't say vote.) In another vein, the general discussions about science, religion, and economic policy are issues shared with other democratic nations.
A thread title with "foreigners" in it sounds xenophobic, or as if this was a U.S. only message board, doesn't it? I can tell from what you are asking in the actual post that wasn't your intent, but it does make it sound like a U.S. forum with international visitors. The .org in my experience is international, but English speaking.

LOL - now this is funny. What is even funnier - is he placed me on ignore for doing this exact same thing to him. Talk about a hypocritical arguement. ~D
Someone needs a lot of help in maintain a consistent arguement.

Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
I put foreigners because I am an american... the rest of you are indeed foreigners; just like am a foreigner to you. If you are offended by this sorry....but I do not see why.

As a dirty, grubby little foreigner from the north, neither do I!
Should I be offended?
Why?

Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
There was actually a bit of vague grumbling about this in the backroom during the election. Some hinted that because the US is so active around the world the presidential decision affected everyone.
Of course no one would come out directly and say that people should be allowed to vote in countries where they do not hold citizenship. Theres no amount of spin that could make that position tenable.
-
Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
Doesn't the title of this thread answer itself?
should foriegners(sic) be allowed to vote????
The answer is obviously - Yes, in their own country. Admittedly I'm not a regular poster in the Backroom, but I can't say I've ever seen anyone say that non-US citizens should be allowed to vote in a US election.

Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
All RESIDENTS in a country should be allowed to participate in the local elections. National elections would require a citizenship.
I participate in local elections in Indonesia and national elections in Sweden and EU.
-
Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
Only citizens of a country should be allowed to vote in that country.
-
Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
No, in fact, no non-American born citizens should be able to vote.

That's nuts. If a person is a naturalized citizen, they should have the right to vote. Denying representation for citizens (excluding felons, insane, and young) is a bad idea. The history of other restrictions is an ugly one, let's not regress.
I don't seen any reason to allow non-citizens to vote--although it was done at the time of the Revolution. If they want representation by the govt, they should seek citizenship.

I disagree... With the large Hispanic population with many if not most having traditional Catholic views on marraige and children, it would not be good to not allow them to vote. Face it, we are on the gravey train here in the States when it comes to adding more and more to the conservative way and over all numbers. As long as the left here in the US continue to promote abortions, failed social policies, and homosexual lifestyles they will weed themselves out. Man, maybe Evolution isn't such a bad thing. ~:)

I dont think others should vote on US elections.I think the main problem is that US have completely lost its fate on UN.And many countries are afraid that US doesnt want to listen at anyone on its foreign policy.

If your not a citizen of the nation in which you live - you should not vote. If your a citizen be it naturalized, born, or otherwise within the legal code of the nation in which you live - then you have the right to vote as far as I am concerned

And this does not give them the right to vote in an election in the United States. Just like United States citizens concerns about another nation - does not give us the right to vote in their national elections. So its completely off topic to this discussion.
-
Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
Yes, i know its off topic and in my first post.I Sayed that foreigners should not vote in US elections.

I have nev6er spen anyo5ne actually state let foriegnretrs be allowed 6to vote: ~D
or correctly spelled, No I dont recall ever seeing a call to allow non-citizens to vote. However I have seen politicians get upset when others talk about making sure only legal and alive citizens be allowed to vote. There was some uproar about some states requiring a picture id before one can cast a vote.

Re: should foriegners be allowed to vote????
Nope. As Said before the question is daft.
However the US should be more open to criticism and positive suggestions from other countries. What works in one country may not work in another, however, some countries have better policies than others. Personally I can't wait to see the day when the US stops trying to be Mr. World Police and starts thinking of it's own people. Being an American abroad has gotten harder and harder because everyone hates Bush, and because "we" elected Bush the common citizen becomes a target, which is utter BS.

Yes and I have seen politicians get upset when people have stopped dead people getting out of their graves to vote, whch I suppiose is exactly the same thing.
Politics is the same the world over , full of crooks , buit that doesn't mean that you can vote for a crook in a counr=try that you have never lived in, which is a claim that I gave not seen made at all .
Soooooo.....what ws we talking about? ~
