not in any particular order:
RTW
Final Fantasy III (US)
Castlevania: SoTN
Half-life 2
Civilization 4
Racing:
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
Strategy:
Medieval: Total War
Medieval 2: Total War
Starcraft
FPS:
Unreal Tournament 2004
Counterstrike CZ
Sure, M2:TW is not out yet but from what I've seen it definately ranks up there. It may be the first ever game I purchase at the New Release Retail price level. I tend to wait atleast 6-12 months for the price to come down as I've so rarely been as excited about a game as I am for M2.
if mods count
Lord of the Rings Total War
Rome Total Realism
Chivalry Total War
Blue Lotus Total War
Medieval Total War
if they dont
Rome Total War (for the mods)
Medieval Total War
Age of Empires II
Rouge Squadron
Ominous Horizons
1.) Galactic Civilizations 2
2.) Medieval Total War
3.) Birth of the Federation
4.) Shogun Total War
5.) Lords of the Realm 2
6.) Neverwinter Nights
Yes, I'm a bit of a strategy nut. ~:)
It's tricky to pick out just 5 favourite games, but amongst them would be these:
Fallout 2,
Medieval Total War
Ultima 7
Far Cry
System Shock
Although to be honest, most of them I don't really play much now, put they're all pretty good (and old). Were I to explain my choices, I'd say this: the graphics might get better, but gameplay in an RPG rarely tops U7 and FO2. MTW provides endless hours of war and fun. System Shock is the most atmospheric game I've probably played (more so than it's sequel). And Far Cry is probably my fav FPS of the past 2 years, even if it gets a bit poor towards the end.
The X-Com series and Master of Orion 2 were close contenders, just based on the sheer number of hours I've spent playing them.
Not in any particular order:
GTA: San Andreas,
GTA: Vice City,
Rome Total War,
Medieval Total War,
Fifa '98 (nostalgia)
MTW
STW
RTW
(THINK i SEE A PATTERN HERE)
MEDAL OF HONOR
IL STURMOVIC (OLD STYLE RUSSIAN FLYER)
:idea2: Sounds like alot of TW fans there:laugh4:
CIV I-(IV)
Europa Universalis II
RTW
Pharaoh
Links
MTW
Tropico
Pharaoh (unfortunately my Cd got lost years ago, can't find it in the shops around here and I'm too young for eBay :()
Monkey Island (all of them)
Railroad Tycoon
On PC:
1. Europa Universalis II
2. Medieval Total War + Viking Invasion
3. Starcraft
4. Far Cry
5. C&C: Red Alert
1-medieval total war/viking invasion (and several mods)
2-hearts of iron-2
3-lords of the realm 2
4-civilization 1 and 2
5-civil war generals 2
as you see most of my favorite games are old. i have some newer ones, but they seem to rehash the same old ground with fancier graphics.
i like building games and war games. i have only rarely tried a first-person shooters, too many buttons to remember and i find it irritating that i could do the real thing 100 times faster in real life (lets select the pistol, oh my, wheres that button!). most real time simulation games are okay but i get tired of them and put them away after a brief time. i can not be bothered to memorize long lists of keyboard shortcuts.
Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion
Civ 3 (have not got civ 4 yet)
Battleground: Gettysburg and Shiloh (by Talonsoft) (the only two that i bought from this series)
someone above said Birth of the Federation... that was an old, but cool game!
Warcraft 2 & 3 (never got around to getting Starcraft)
there are plenty of other games that looked very nice... but never got around to getting them, as the little bit of computer gaming time i have had over the last 3 years or so, MTW took up the far majority of the time.
:coffeenews:
1. Thief Deadly Shadows
2. Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
3. Thief 1 + 2 (They're both practically the same game, just different storylines and a few tweaks, same graphics).
4. Rome Total War
5. Warcraft 3
RTW
MTW
Morrowind
GTA:San Andreas
RTCW:Enemy Territory
Not in an particular order.
MTW
Baldurs Gate 2
C&C: Red alert
Empire Earth
Hearts of Iron 2
As you can see, I can't resist a good strat-game
RTW - THINKING
BURNOUT REVENGE - NOT THINKING
NFSU - MOST WANTED - STILL NOT THINKING
AGE OF EMPIRES - THINKING A LITTLE
RESIDENT EVIL 4 - CANT THINK - ZOMBIE ATE MY BRAIN.
Never played MTW as only found the series since I bought Rome after needing something to tax me.
Why do majority of people rate it over Rome ?
MTW
Castlevania (any from SOTN on really)
Advance Wars DS
Far Cry
Total Annihilation
It's generally more challenging. The strategic map is risk style which makes strategic management easier (also, less hassle with popualtion and such) and allows for great big battles when someone decides to invade with two full stacks. But mostly because the tactical battles were slower and, well, more tactical.Quote:

Although Master Thief counted Thief I and II as the same game, I'm separating them, not only because I can't think of another game I play as frequently as all the above, but also because the feel of the two games is quite different.
Basically, I switch between the Total War series (don't have Shogun) and the Thief series. I'm a great fan of each. Total War makes the ultimate strategy/tactical games, and the Thief games (especially the first) are the epitome of stealth gaming in a medieval/technopunk setting, not even to be surpassed by Deadly Shadows despite "better" graphics and several years of advanced technological innovation.
AOE II {age of kings } ******

....6 --> Microsoft FreeCell --> Most addictive game ever!
Heh, Freecell can be addictive, especially when you're on a run. I used to stick my music on (different tunes definitely affect my performance) and and see how many wins I could rack up, and if I started losing, I would have to keep playing until my session win percentage was level or above my overall win percentage, even if that meant playing another 15 games! I actually played it yesterday for the first time in ages, and ended up winning 15 or so in a row, desparately meaning to quit, but kept on going until I lost. Damn.
I can't remember if the task manager shut down cheat still works with Win XP, heh.
My brother used to be addicted to Minesweeper at work. Rather than earn his pay, he'd play Minesweeper! I think he managed to do expert in 109 seconds or something stupid, before having to give it up when a new computer arrived with a horrible non-responsive mouse, thus forever runing his chances of topping his best score.
Amazing how sometimes the simplest of things can be addictive.
I'm quite surprised there isn't some really retro enthusiast who's listed Rogue/Net Hack in their top 5.
Just give it time. This thread's only a few days old, after all. ~;)Quote:

3) Sid Meier's Pirates!
4) Starcraft
Past time wasters:

Age of Empires II.
Resident Evil II & IV.
The Elder Scrolls IV.
Ground Control II.
Oh I hope expansions don't count as one because five really isn't enough.
1) Shogun Total War
2) Silent Hunter 3 (Grey Wolves mod)
3) Sid Meier's Gettysburg (full 3 day battle)
4) Fighting Steel (Thunder at Sea/Fighting Steel Project)
5) Descent
*Gasp* Somebody else put Ground Control in their top five!
Well, even if he only put three down. ^_^

3. Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 (with Yuri's Revenge expansion)

Well my computer is pretty old so all my favorite games are fairly old. Here they are in no particular order (drum roll please).
1. MTW:VI
2. Call of Duty
3. Morrowind
4. Raven Shield
5. Lord of the Realms 2
1) Total War Series (newest: Medieval 2: Total War)
2) Elder Scrolls Series (newest: ES !V: Oblivion)

Civilization 4
Uhh mine are
RTW
EAW
LOTR ROTK
LOTR TTA
KOTOR
Wowe Shogun, really into the abbreviated games it seems. The strange thing is I knew what all those meant. Does that make me a nerd? :book: OMG AHHH :skull:
1. RTW
2. MTW
3. Final Fantasy 2 (or 4 if you prefer)
4. Resident Evil 4
5. Castlevania (the original, beaten in 15 minutes)
Honorable mentions
Zeldas 1-3
Original Final Fantasy and 6 (NES and SNES)
Ninja Gaiden (NES version only)
Castlevania: Simon's Quest
Sid Meier's games
Pong
DOS Oregon Trail
Too many could be on this list after twenty years.
Hmm, it would have to be:
MTW (for sure man, owns)
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (beautiful game)
Final Fantasy VII (the best 1 of the series I think)
Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes or Crusaders (very good game as well)
Halo 2 (the 3rd installment looks gorgeous!! :2thumbsup: )
Its not in any order, but I have more games worthy of my top 5, but thats for another day...:dizzy2:
Cant forget MTW2 (its not out yet, but I think I love you)
not in any particular order...
Medieval Total War
Praetorians
Rise of Nations/Thrones and Patriots
Empire Earth 2
Galactic Civilizations 2
Wow, Descent!? I haven't played that in a long time but it was a great game for it's time. Good choice.
My list:
MTW and especially VI
Warcraft 2
AOE2
Starcraft
Civ4
My top 5 games would be...
1) Rise of Nation+Expansion
2) RTW+BI
3) Oblivion
4) AoE 2
5) EE+expansion
Of course have got to list Medieval and Rome with their mods, but there will always be very fond memories of all the hours playing Master of Orion 2 and Panzer General 2. For a fifth one never had more fun online than back in the days when Counterstrike was beta. That is one game that certainly has changed over its development and not necessarily for the better.
:gah2:
yes yes it does :laugh4:Quote:

Half-Life 2

I'm looking forward to playing~:santa: :
Caesar IV
MTW 2
EU 3
As you can see, to me the 'turn based / pause button' enabled games are very high in my favour; I dislike(d) FPS/RTS games as they make me realize how old I'm getting in not being able to keep up with the action, and if I do, I miss out on the details of the games...:embarassed: :furious3:
mmm a top 5
Anno 1503 (1503 AD you English speaking world)
Civ 2
Colonization
Settlers V
Alpha Centauri

Back on topic please.
My PM box is always open for complaints...and generous money donations ~D.
There are many games I like, pretty hard to make a top 5.
-STW MP & SP and mods
-Unreal Tournament 'SP' & MP
-Infiltration mod for UT
-Unreal
-Hidden & Dangerous
-Red Orchestra Ostfront
-MTW MP and mods (SamWars, Community mod, DuX).
-RTW SP when modded
-Black Hawk Down MP, love those snipers
-RTCW MP & SP
-SOF 2 MP & SP
-Had many hours of fun with C&C series, also played MP and lan. Made a MP map around '97 or earlier, called Totalwar. It was a MP map using reinforcements and extra AI controlled factions (hostile or allied) popping up when you didn't need them
-CS 2, love the autosniper
-Operation Flashpoint, why is it not installed?
-Half-life, but not MP. I'm not a fan of the jumping stuff, never passed Xen.
-Alpha Centauri. The diplomatics there were great.
-Caesar III, a Rome citybuilder.
-Railroad tycoon
-Apache Longbow
Ah come on! At least get near 5. You weren't trying hard enough.
I'm a strategy player so...
C&C original
AOE original
Commandos
Civilisation II
Caesar II
RTW
Counterstrike Source
EVE Online
Caesar III (I've gone back to this in anticipation of Caesar IV!)
Knights of the Old Republic
Total war series
Final Fantasy series
Metal Gear Solid series
Gran Turismo series *when u drive a ford fiesta u need a dream :laugh4: *
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
In no Particular order - and excluding the obvious MTW
Thief 1
Thief 2
Pirates!
Dungeon master
Zelda - ocarina of time
I'm going to name product series, since I usually buy multiple products from each series:
- Unreal Series / Epic: including Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2004
- Half-Life & Counter Strike Series + Mods / Valve: including Half-Life, Counter Strike, Day Of Defeat, Half-Life 2, Counter Strike: Source
- Championship (now Football) Manager / Sports Interactive: including Season 01 / 02, Championship Manager 4, Season 03 / 04
- Total War / Creative Assembly: including Shogun Total War & Mongol Invasion Expansion, Medieval Total War & Viking Invasion Expansion, Rome Total War & Barbarian Invasion Expansion
- Medal Of Honor / EA Games: including Medal Of Honor Allied Assault, Medal Of Honor Spearhead Expansion, Medal Of Honor Breakthrough Expansion
Top5 games I enjoyed the most in no particular order.
I thought about it for awhile and can't come up with a good order, so here it goes.
- Homeworld2
- MTW + RTW
- Call of duty
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Farcry
1. Civilization II (no matter how many others in the series come out, this game will always have that special place, even if I don't play it much any more...)
2. The Total War series (naturally it's going to be on the list)
3. The Paradox series (CK, EU2, Vicky, HoI2, etc.)
4. Star Wars: Battlefront II (the only computer FPS-style game I've ever really enjoyed)
5. Caesar II (the very first computer game I can consider myself as being addicted to. In my heyday w/ this thing I could get a Large Palace in just about every city I built, at least on City-Only Mode)
HONORABLE MENTIONS SECTION
Civil War Generals II - Turn-based strategy on a boardlike hexagonal map. Includes almost every major battle of the American Civil War, plus several alternative versions of each (plus three special Washington, D.C. battles). Also has several campaigns (including one big one--The Civil War), which are basically several battles strung together, and a Scenario Editor allowing you to build your own battles.
Lords of the Realm II - When I first played the Rome: Total War campaign, it reminded me a lot of this game, minus the resource management. It has a lot of the same concepts and features (armies move on the map, real-time battles, ability to build siege equipment during a castle siege, etc.). You play against 5 other factions, each with their own personality, as you struggle to gain the throne of whatever map you're playing on (including several fictional ones). Hard to believe it was made 10+ years ago.
Starcraft - Pure RTS isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I really enjoyed this game.
1. Medieval Total War
2. Lords of the realm
3. Call of duty
4. Rise of nations
5. Anno 1502
Specialist290, you must have been looking at my stack of game disks!:balloon2:
i love those old games you mentioned.
i also have paradox's hearts of iron ii and i love building up my nation and building units, i am terrible at actual fighting though. i can handle small campaigns early in the war, but multi-front huge conflicts get away from me.
- Railroad Tycoon 2
- Rome Total War
- Locomotion
- Civ2
- Tropico 2
Age of Empires II
Medieval: Total War
Suikoden III
Final Fantasy Tactics
The Legend of Dragoon
Honorable Mentions:
Knights of the Old Republic
Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition
Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII
So... yeah, I haven't seen/played any "new" games that were any good.
Here we go:
MTW
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (Anyone know of this game?)
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Tie Fighter (sadly, my copy no longer works)~:mecry:
Call of Duty
Honorable Mentions:
Civ III
Red Alert 2
Pirates!
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Starcraft
Battlefront
Axis and Allies
Heroes of Might and Magic III
Descent
