Report for 1155:
This is my first Megas Report. After familiarizing myself with the bureaucratic apparatus of our country I immediatelly set to work to fulfill the wishes of the Senate and the various House Leaders. I noted that many informations in the Status and Order Thread are extremely outdated. I ask every Senator to update his Orders, this includes a list of Prioritizations of those to whom it applies.
Recruitment:
Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 15 PUs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 0 out of his 6 PUs.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 2 out of his 8 PUs.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 0 out of his 4 PUs.
Apionnas Vringas used 3 out of his 4 PUs.
Methodious Tagaris used 0 out of his 2 PUs.
In accordance to Ioannis Kalameteros wishes I have recruited two units of Byzantine Spearmen in Belgrade.
In accordance with Apionnas Vringas wishes I have recruited two units of Dismounted Byzantine Lancers and one unit of Byzantine Spearmen in Sofia.
Aside from this the only recruitment has been replenishment of troops in Yerevan, Dyarbakir and Tblisi to help move against the Seljuk Turks.
Furthermore two Dromons were comissioned in Nicaea to assemble a fleet for the invasion of Venice. To the same end a fleet in the Mediterranean has been recalled to aid in the upcoming war.
No other recruitment for the war against Venice has taken place yet. I ask all Senators who wish to join in this war to assemble near Belgrade and Scopia from where the two main attack forces against the Venetian holdings will be lead. Once I see how many men each Senator brings with him the armies will be brought up to strength through recruitment from Sofia and Belgrade. I ask the Senators governing said Castles to assisst in this matter by granting me the use of the newly recruited units.
Construction:
Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 2 PBs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Ioannis Kalameteros used o out of his 1 PB.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Apionnas Vringas used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Due to insufficient funds I was not able to construct the prioritized Huge Walls in Antiokheia. As an effect of this and in accordancce with our Charter no further construction was started.
Domestic Affairs:
The financial situation is a tight one with the new raise in wages and the uncooperative tax settings of a few Senators it is doubtful whether any construction can be started this turn. In other bad news the competition for the lucrative slave trade near Dongola is fierce. While we may have defeated the Fatamids on the battlefied their contacts to the African slavers have thrown one of our merchants out of business.
Maybe some of this will change with the building of a Master Merchant Guild, which has proposed to set up in Cairo.
The citizens of Damascus have rioted. Hundreds were killed in the streets. There is currently no garrison there to protect the citizens and restore order. It seems like the Order is willing to abandon the settlement to itself. Should they request it I will not intervene however much it pains me to see Roman citizens suffer.
A new son has been born, Evdaemon Dermokaitis! I congratulate Ioannis Kalameteros on this addition to his family.
Another addition to the Imperial family would be a young Ioannis Apionas who would make a suitable candidate for adoption for Andronikos Komnenos. I await his response on the matter.
Foreign Affairs:
The Pope has called upon all of Christendom to join him in a Holy Crusade against Tunis. It seems the Catholics have given up on the Levant. This is confirmed by troops of the Holy Roman Empire moving north, fleeing the humiliation they suffered in Jerusalem.
