Mongols come around turn 65. Gunpowder is discovered IIRC around turn 90-ish. Timurids come around 135 or so. And the 'world is round' event is as you say around turn 160. Although it will be almost another twenty turns before you build your top level dock, get the ships, and get over to the New World.
