Default Progress and a few questions.

Hey guys. Ive been playing the mod for a while now and I have a few questions. First off im playing as Rome, its the year 251 BC I have all of the italian peninsula, Sardinia, Corsica and the nearer two sicillian towns under my controll with Segestica under siege. Is this good progress for the year im in?
Secondly I notice that many of the unit and character names have the letter U changed to a V, is there any particular reason for this or is it some kind of random glitch? Its kinda ennoying to have to decode the proper pronounciation of a name. Also things like MaCedonia and SeluCeia have had there C's changed to k's can anyone clarify this for me?

And so far I have only realy been killing rebels and a few lightly defended Carthaginian settlements but in this as with every TW game since shogun there seems to be a complete lack of field battles. Is this just because I havent attacked any actual factions yet?

    Thanks.

first, on the progress, others will have more comments than i, but what difficulty setting are you on?

second, the V for Roman names comes from the fact that the letter u did not exist in Latin, and Us and Vs were all rendered by V. if you google for roman inscriptions there are bound to be images showing that. so that's historically accurate. similarly the C in macedonia and seleucia is the romanisation of the greek names - the greek would have a kappa that properly rendered from the greek script into our modern day english would be a k. as historical realism is a real driver behind this mod, hence using makedonia instead of the "c", which is then mis-pronounced (from how it would have been in greek) as an S rather than K consonant.

    and don't worry, there'll be field battles. a-plenty. :)

Thanks for the info. I would have guessed that was the reason for the spelling. And I definetly chose medium battles and at least medium campaign.

And I got another question for you guys. Im running RTW on my older pc and want to install it and this mod on my new one. Is there any way I can get the save file of my current campaign over to my new comp? Maybe e-mail the file to myself. If so can somebody please give me step by step instructions on where to find the save.

Well, you could host the savegame and then download it to your new computer.

If you installed by default, you have a folder called EB in your RTW folder, right? Open EB, and in there should be a folder called 'saves'. That's where all your saves are. Just put it back in the same place on the new PC once you've transferred it.

Mate, you've got until 14AD to finish... At 4 years per turn, you've got time, believe me.
Of course, it depends what you want to do: do you want to build the Roman Empire as it was done historically, or just want to play about? Sometimes it takes me ages (until 'round 230) to get to Segestica.
Basically, it's up to you. Do you think you've made good progress?

    My two cents...

That's a fair account. Take your time, let the AI factions develop. The game is much more interessting when the other factions are a real challange to you and not just push overs. With the Romans you have some kind of a timetable according to the historical progression. So, unless you are attacked you shouldn't start the next major operation (Spain, Greece or Africa) before the 220s. Keep yourself buisy with the rebell towns in Northern Italy meanwhile. If someone attacks you don't throw everything into a massive counter-attack, but just stick to defending your border, taking a town or two along the border.

Maybe you could have a go at those couple of towns just on the northern side of the Alps? If you want a nice field battle, that is...

you don't? shame? he's such a character - alpine killer at his best :) certainly the challenge factor there is fantastic - the amount of times in my romani campaign he annihilated stacks - so good :)

@ Hibernia. Careful of the "Swiss/Austrian" rebel towns. They spawn a NASTY stack of rebels when you venture in. Much like Numantia in Iberia. They represent the historical troubles Empires had conquering those areas. They are placed there to help keep things historical. If you are in the beginning part of your game, just plain old avoid them. Those provincves to avoid in the "Swiss" areas are (city names) Aventicos, Veldideno, Iuvavoaeta.
