    Default Crusade looting

    I wasnt aware that AI crusades could loot allies. Im sicily and the english just walked through my new conquered greece with a 1,000 men crusade. usually they ask to pass and there on there merry way, but this time they robbed me of 132000. Why? Is this the case with jihads also.

    Also on a earlyer crusade i was passing through Constantinople to Moldavia i got back stabbed by byzants but my 900 crusaders didnt get included, i lost with my small garrison. Could this be just a bug or can crusaders loose their bottle.

    Yeah I have had crusades belonging to allied factions go berko and loot me as well - but not to that extent!

    I suppose I just shrugged it off as a "Well that probably would have happened" on the basis that some of these guys were undoubtedly there to line their pockets as well as save their souls...

    Well crusades works in three ways entering a territory. In catholic territory it enlists local armies, in orthodox territory it recieves voluntary aid in form of cash, incorrectly described in the game as "loot". Islamic territory is always attacked in a regular way.

    I suspect that the territory in question belonged to an orthodox faction, and therefore the loot option kicked in when the crusade arrived. Though to be honest, it sounds more like a bug, especially considering the amount of florins plundered. Mayhaps this incident belong in the "you know the AI is..." thread.

    As to the other part of you question/observation: the crusade was allowed passage before the outbreak of hostilities, and that permission was apparantly not lifted. Nice people those Byzzies.

    Hi Knight of the Rose , welcome .

    Back to the topic...

    So if faction rel=cath, you either get/lose troops depending on zeal

    rel=orth, "looting" takes place

    rel=islam, attack anyway.

    Is that right?
    The following statement is true. The previous statement is false.

    Nope it was 100% catholic. If it relys on running into catholic factions to atain loot why havent other people reported this in their games. it seems something of a rarity. especially the 130,000 bit..

    I have had passing crusades go a-looting when playing as the Sicilians, but only the once....they have tried it on twice in my current Serbian campaign...so I am guessing that it is possible for a Catholic province to be looted, though far less likely than an Orthodox faction.

    I am still smazed about the amount they took from you though....

    Actually I am amazed that there was that much sitting around to be taken in the first place, but that's another story...

    Well Youngies answer has made me a little uncertain. In my experience Looting is a random event, which may or may not happen. On a side note: When it does happen, I seem to recall there's no desertation - or am I wrong?

    I've certainly never seen it happen in cath land, so I thought looting was restricted to the orth, perhaps even to byzzies?

    More interesting though, is what determines the status of a province. There are two factors in play: The religion of the province, and the religion of the province owner. Regions owned by an islamic lord will always be attacked, and Greece in Youngies example was cath. (100% even!) so I suspect that "faction" is all important. This still doesn't make sense though, and I'd call it a bug.
