caravel, I'm not sure I see why video drivers would cause such a lag on the near-static load screen and then give me no problems in the graphics intensive battlefield. I think I'd rather mess with other things before I start screwing around with video drivers.

I think one of the things I'm going to do is uninstall my Norton's security suite and install some free security software. Norton's is such a pig with system resources and I suspect it to be the root cause of a couple of other annoyances I've been experiencing (such as here at the Org).

It seems strange but it is the case. It's up to you of course whether you mess with the drivers or not.

    A wise move.

I'm using the free AVG 7.5. I'm seriously thinking about buying the full AVG 8.0 version for $55, but after a year you have to renew for additional cost.

Echoing in the back of my mind there is a memory of someone saying “I wish I could get this to work with my X1300” I thought it was Tosa, but could have been R’as or George.

Unless there is anyone here who is currently having success with one of these 1300s, you need a new card.

Just my opinion, but don't waste time fighting this (as I have with the 8800).

    Hello Tomisama,

I struggled to get it to work with a 9700 pro years ago (STW, WE and MTW).
After a few minutes it just froze, as if the memory was exhausted. No other game did this with that card.

A pity as it was a great card.

The lastest 'wish I could this get to work with MTW' by me, was the GF8800.

I'ld also recommend the 7600GT, there are 512 MB ones. A very nice card, both AGP and PCI-e.

That is strange Tosa. I had a 9700TX (Dell's version) and I recall having no problems what-so-ever with MTW/VI back in the day when they came out.

Tomisama, please don't say I need a new card. My X1300 is a new card! Playing with Samurai Warlords, I had to drop the display resolution to 1024x768 and that is all that seemed to be required to stop the CTD. My biggest concern at the moment is the 2 minute lag I get between the campaign and battlemaps.

I do have Nero 6 installed on my PC and I vaguely recall seeing some kind of an issue with it and MTW. I installed the latest patch for Nero 6, but I'll have to dig again and find out more detail on the specific problem it causes MTW.

After much gnashing of teeth, I finally managed to uninstall Norton's last night. There was no uninstaller that came with the ISP version I had. Nearly drove my head through the wall in frustration trying to find out from my ISP phone and web support how to uninstall it. I had to resort to Symantec's Norton Removal Tool to rid my PC of that plague.

I replaced Norton's with Avira's Anti Vir anti-virus software. I was inclined at first to go with AVG as my dad has that on his PC and it seems to be doing well. It also gets a lot of recommendations from others as well (Puzz, etc.) I was doing some checking around the web, and of the big three free AV programs (AVG, Avast! & Anti Vir), AVG seemed to have the most holes in its defenses in actually testing against various types of attacks. Aside from that, it seemed like a coin toss between the three...and Anti Vir won the toss.

I'll have to see is any of this impacts the MTW lag I have, but I doubt it will. Still, my PC feels (mentally) lighter with that hog Norton's off the hard drive.

You're aware that patch 2.01 is a replacement exe and not a patch that you run right?

Nero 6 was associated with causing CTD's in MTW/VI.
