So I've gotten rid of the arrow markers and the banners, but I have never figured out how to get rid of that highlight over the units that you get when selecting units, not on the unit card, on the actual men themselves. Anybody know how?

no way to do that. how would you know that the unit was selected if not for the highlight?

But you would not know which unit was selected on the battlemap. You can overcome that as long as you have unique units, but not if you have 2 of the same.
