Default Minor difficulties with EB 1.1

    Hey all,

I'm experiencing a few issues with EB 1.1 which I downloaded and installed yesterday. Firstly the game takes over a minute to load, the vast majority of this time is spent in the initial loading screen (prior to the intro video). Secondly, the campaign map is terribly laggy. Note my computer is in no way under-equipped to handle RTW. Thirdly, and most irritating, is it takes the AI on average a minute and a half to complete it's turns every time. Lastly, there is a graphical error on hoplite units. When they're marching (either marching or running) their spears become inverted.

All of these issues are minor, but certainly the fact that the AI takes over a minute to process a turn means that I'm staring at my computer blankly a lot more than I'm comfortable with.

The only thing I can think of is that I downloaded a corrupt install exe. This seems to have been validated when I ran the validater and it informed me some files were missing and I had some extra ones (and no, I didn't tamper with anything). I should also note that this was my second download of EB 1.1. The first one was also corrupt and when I installed it the game never made it past the initial loading screen.

Anyways, any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated because I can't wait to keep playing this awe-inspiring mod.

EDIT: Here is the link to Image Shack for the Triarii screenshot. The long end of the spears are below ground. Is it supposed to be like that?

I doubt that this anything to do with EB, that seems to be RTW.

Secondly, the campaign map is terribly laggy.
    Turn off campaign mapshadows.

That's the hughe script running in the background and doing the thousands of things that makes EB different to RTW. No way to get around it with this engine, but you'll get used to it.

Lastly, there is a graphical error on hoplite units. When they're marching (either marching or running) their spears become inverted.
You mean they hold them upside down? That's what all units do that use the overhand animation in combat.

What kind of computer do you have? EB practically doubles the minimal requirements of RTW, and even then, it's slower.

Yes, they hold the spears upside down. Well, I suppose a better explanation would be that they hold the spears upside down and it ends up clipping through the ground. I have a screenshot of a unit of marching Triarii, but image shack keeps timing out on the upload. I'll try it again, so check back at the OP to see if it's there. In lieu of that, basically the spears are as tall as the soldier when they're upside down because the remainder of the shaft is under ground.

And my computer is still decent. 3.00GHz processor, 1 GIG of RAM and a GeForce 6200. But if EB almost doubles the requirements of RTW then I can understand!

Its good to know that the turns are supposed to take that long and it isn't just me.

Anyways, thanks for the quick replies!

You would benefit from another 1GB of RAM.

Oh, and don't bother with a screenshot for this particular gfx bug in EB. It's an old one; very old.

Get optimized script from EB1.1 fixes thread. It should cut your wait times almost in half.

If the spears of Hoplites etc. disappearing into the ground bothers you. Then try Fanatic's mod. near the top in the Unofficial mod section. It improves the way that hoplites fight, making them stick together in a tighter formation. It also forces them to hold their spears level while they move. So they don't stick in the ground. There are screenshots in the thread. Haven't actually had a chance to try it myself but seems impressive.
