Weird power supply problem

Hi everyone,

a few weeks ago I wasn't able to start my computer. Pressing the Power-on-button did not result in anything. I changed the computer's power cable and... voila it worked again and I forgot it.

Then today the same! No reaction for pressing Power-on. I changed it back to the old cable, no reaction. Third cable, and it seemed it would start normally. But it wasn't enough, my computer couldn't continue start-up, it just resulted in some blinking of the tiny blue powersupply-LED.

Ah and yes, we have electricity. What do you think is the problem? Could it be the computer's power supply? I'll die if my compi is lost! Please tell me they can most likely fix it.

You're going to need to have someone take a look at your machine. If it won't even POST, there's not a lot of help we can give you. Obviously you should do the basics: move the computer to a new outlet and see if the problem persists; open the case and make sure all of the cables are seated correctly; check to make sure neither your RAM nor your processor have wiggled out of their slots.

And once that's done, take it someplace where they've got a full shelf of parts to slap in and see what the problem is.

Your hard drive is probably fine, so don't worry about losing your MP3s, school papers and pr0n. All of that will be easily recovered.

What country do you live in? I remember in the UK that some power cords and outlets had their own internal fuses (and most fuses were opaque, so you couldn't tell if they were blown or not without an ohmmeter... ).

Especially the school papers. That stuff is all over the internet.

Thx for your advice. I brought it to the store today. Sadly warranty ended last Christmas. I'll let you know then what was the case.

It was the computer's power supply as I thought (yeah I thought it remotely, haha). Now it's fine again. Thanks for your support.

P.S. Imagine my surprise when I found out yesterday as they handed me my compi back that the warranty is for five years, not four!
