    Question Legionaries Stats

Simply ,Why do Leginaries have 2 points less Armour compare to Polybian Principes? See the Pics

As you see ,Principes' armour state is 12 while for legionary it is 10 ,Despite they use exactly the same equipments ,Same helmet same amrour (Lorica hamata). The only difference is pricipes has a greave on the leading leg. So why legionary has 2 points less armour than principes? Does that greave worth 2 points???

Also the inforamtion in "Unit list/Unit compare" file do not match the real info and especially unit's real states.

    Thanks in advance

Hmm dunno. Maybe the people in the Principe-class could afford better quality armour than the Roman-state could afford to buy and give the soldiers? Maybe its just a misstake?

Yes that greave is worth two points of armour.

Dear Foot ,I think you are wrong ! See Evocata's Armour state

Evocata shares the same equipment as leginaries and pricipes ,expect Evocata has one greaves on each leg (2 greaves at all). If each greave worth 2 points then he should have armour value of 14 not 12 ! In fact for evocata you gave the greaves one point of armour value ,Which I think is a more realistic approach.

    BTW Thanks for reply mate

The greave on the left leg is much more important than the one on the right. They shouldn't be worth 2 points each. To make it realistic, the one on the right should be worth less.

A greave on the leading leg accounts for 2 points of armour IIRC; the other simply doesn't do anything but add to the picture.

    So it all works out.

It could be just me but I don't see greaves on the principes' legs.

And why is the one on the left more important?

Because, in a fight, your left leg tends to be the leading one. Your right leg will generally not be easily accessible by the enemy weapons if you're in formation, so there's really not much point in protecting it.

    Thumbs up Re: Legionaries Stats

Presuming the legionary is right-handed, the left leg is more exposed to possible fatal blows.

    EDIT: Korlon beat me... geez...

Surely all legionaries fight with the sword in their right hand and shield in the left?

My understanding was always that naturally left-handed people [aka contemporarily the devil's spawn) would be trained to use the other hand.

This is pre-Christian, so no devil-spawn. At least not like that. Having said that, I'm not sure about left-handers because legionaries fight individually, but as a team, not like hoplites who essentially fight as one.
