Default 2 full stacks vannished ...

Playing Bakria i was approaching the saka settlement named Chighu (northeastern most province of the map). I started a siege with a full stack and i got attacked from the rear. Although my army was of top knotch troops...artillery, elephants...katraphaktoi...u name it, i withdrawed in order to attract the Saka to a better position.

As i pressed the withdraw button....my army simply vannished and next turn i get a heroic death for my general.

So...i thought...ok i got distracted and accidently pressed the automatic battle button. But no i was quite sure i pressed the withdraw button, besides....it would be quite difficult for the Saka to win against my full stack.

I tried the same with a support army made of lesser quality troops, but still very powerfull and the same happened...pressed withdraw button...and army vannished.

In short...beware guys...there are big monsters on the Saka Homeland.....dont send your men there...

    Seriously...anyone with the same problem?

Oh and those elite Peltastai the Baktrians have, when you click on them they say Hydaspistai...or something and are actually described as makedonian elite skirmishers...

Was it one of those battles where if you lost in any way, all of your units would be destroyed? If you did press automatic battle and lost, then your units would certainly have been destroyed utterly and totally.

If there was this 'fighting to the death' icon by the banner/portrait of the commander then RTW will destroy your army upon retreat (a retreat counts as a defeat)/defeat.

Looks like you'll *have* to fight... or die...

Nop i actually had the upper hand both in number of troops and quality...something like 2800 something of my troops against 700 saka divided into in two armies, one in the city and another that got behind me and attacked.
Besides...the second army i "sacrificed" to test the situation was equally far superior, at least in numbers, to the Saka army and the same thing happened.

I did manage to conquer the province later on, they had gotten much stronger but i fought all battles regardless of my position beinf favourable or not...they're gone...no more Saka Rauka...and the region is closed with a sign saying... "HERE BE DRAGONS...DO NOT ENTER"....

Oh and btw...my budget seems a bit crazy...regardless of how much money i spent or the expenses i have...my budget seems to fluctuate always around the same figures...even after major improvments in trading and mining...

It is probably because he was cut-off from a way back to Baktrian areas.

Strange enough the AI is suffering a bit less from that. Someone managed to get a stack from somewhere near Kart-Hadast all the way to Asia Minor in a single retreat!

Well i thought about that too....and although that situation made sense with my first army, my second one had enough space for retreat.

Now it did happen again....this time i was attacking Pura with an army comprised mostly of indian troops... as i got attacked by another army while i was besieging the city i noticed that the seleukid garrison had the skull and sword icon....not me though....and as i ordered the withdrawal of my army...pufffft....gone... vannished and another of my family members had a heroic death....

Question Re: 2 full stacks vannished ...

Maybe on a higher difficulty you have no chance of retreat or something?
