Given that someone has to be FL, I'm a veteran of Kotr and that I have a bit of a background in the selected faction, I'll take Alexius.

Since Overknight has first right of refusal anyway I added the relevant part to the table already. The rest will be filled once we have the RBGs recruited and ready to be taken/refused.

Thanks for keeping track of this, Ituralde. It saves me a lot of work.
I just picked up a book to do some research on the Byzantines.
It's A Short History of Byzantium by John Julius Norwich. I picked it up from Borders for 18 bucks. It's not scholarly but it seems to provide a basic overview for those who don't want to do a graduate level reading list just to prepare for a game. For those who do want to do a graduate level reading list, I can provide some book names but I haven't read them.![]()
If this isn't the right thread for this, I apologize but we don't have an OOC thread at the moment.

I have the three volume version of that, and I suspect you have the condensed one volume (paperback?) version.
I'd recommend either, it's what I read before doing my Byzantine AAR.
Norwich focuses on the Emperors and the personalities and events surrounding them. For an indepth study of the army or civil structure of the Empire, you'd have to go someplace else.

Yeah, I have the "short short version". :DOriginally Posted by OverKnight
If I like it, I'll get the 3 volumes.
I figured it was a "quick and dirty" history but that is what I wanted. Just an overview for now. I did a search at my school library and there is a good amount of "scholarly" work that could be interesting as well. I might look at those when I have more time.
Let me know if you want a list...

That's why I offered it in the first place!Originally Posted by TinCow
But to be honest, I never realized how much work those tables can become. My already quite high appreciation of econ21s work has just doubled!
You're absolutely right!Originally Posted by peverpink

Getting in so late in the previous has me wanting some more...
And to be fair, Zim and Deguerra should be before me in the list, not the other way round, whatever numbers say...
I'll be happy with anything the game throws at me be it FM or RBG...

I'm in.
I also have A Short History of Byzantium. It's a very good read a provides a nice overview of the Eastern empire. I really should get the original three-volume set, like OK has.

TosaInu shall never be forgotten.
Welcome! There are currently two family member avatars available: Andronikos Komnenos and Isaakios Komnenos. They are the youngest sons of the current Basileus and brothers to the heir to the throne. We can also spawn a recruitable general for you anywhere you want.
Can I get the first one?
TosaInu shall never be forgotten.
Certainly. I'll even let you vote in the current Senate Session, as long as you get your votes in before time is up.
Well. Ok then.
What about the turn...![]()
TosaInu shall never be forgotten.
The game will not be 'opened' for people to start making moves until after the voting is over, which will be at 19:00 GMT on Monday, August 18th. At that point, whoever wins the election portion will be the next Megas and they will then announce when they are ready to open up the save, usually pretty quickly.
On a side note, since you are taking a young avatar that just came of age, it is advisable to stay put in one place until you reach 20 years of age. If you hang out in the capital (Constantinople) you will gain traits which will increase your Law and eventually Tax Collection and Authority traits. If you hang out in a city with a church (other than Constantinople) you will gain traits which will increase your Piety, Morale, and Law, but decrease your Loyalty slightly. Theoretically, you could also hang out in a castle with a Library building, and gain movement points, command, law, and chivalry, but I don't think we have any castles with Libraries yet.
