If you doubt your writing skills, a good place to start would be to do a coop story with another player. Just posting a conversation between avatars is relatively simple while still fleshing out the characters.

For example, the conversation between Al and Ioannis took only a little bit of actual writing and a few PMs back and forth, but lends some insight into each character, ie Al wants to stay in power to secure the Empire and Ioannis is anticipating trouble with the Magnaura.

If you you want a coop story, I'm always ready to write one. You might think you have no reason to talk to Anna, but I can always find some reason. I scheme for no reason at all, so don't worry about it.

And don't doubt your writing skill, you are surely better than you think.

I'm not really happy with the advanced aging due to how time is handled in SS.

I really preferred things in the original version.

I'm 21 now...and all I did was send letters back and forth to OK for 4 years

Can anyone tell me how old I would have been in a vanilla game?

Overknight played 9 turns. In Vanilla avatars aged 1 year every 2 turns, which would have made your avatar 4 1/2 years older! Which apparently is the same amount your avatar aged now in SS.

So your characters will always age 5 years for every Megas term! Maybe some are not used to the fast pace of the game in the beginning? I don't know. I was acutally surprised my avatar wasn't even older yet. If anything our characters age is now closer to the time progression of years, so I see no problems there. After all 15 years have passed.

hmmm, seems strange that we would age at the same rate when the turns are not the same as vanilla.

I remember the big stink about how CA wanted to slow down the rate of aging for characters to try and ensure they where around long enough for people to simply put a 'face to the name' of their king or character.

I saw the wisdom of their move back then and certainly see it now.

Turns alternate between aging characters 1 year after one turn and 1 year after two turns. That should mean...if my math is accurate...that we should age 25% faster...rather than two years after four turns it's two years after three turns.

How is my math holding up?

But then your avatar should have aged 6 years since the last Diet and you yourself say that he only aged 4...

I checked the Library and since 1080 to now 10 turns have passed and each character has aged 5 years, just like it was in vanilla. For your theory to be true they should have all aged 6 and 1/3 year. So really as far as aging is concerned everything is the same. The only difference is that the year progression is different.

Also on the fast beginning. Considering that in KotR the first Megas' terms played out much faster we really have a good balance between IC and OOC time progression.

That's probably just a testament to OK's skills as an administrator.

I thought at one stage I'd be able to get back from work and have part of his term left...but I was wrong.

and now...Ituralde, with what you've said, what is happening is that our characters are moving though the linear time faster than vanilla...I feel like I'm in a "Back to the Future" film.

The avatars age as they do because it's hardcoded into the engine. RTW had two turns per year, so the avatars aged one year every two turns. The brilliant guys at CA decided not to change that when they made M2TW move at 2 years per turn. The aging works perfectly fine if you mod the game back to two turns per year, but then it moves along ungodly slowly and none of the timed events work properly.
