"In real life" I very much question authority. Constantly. It comes with the territory of studying power relationships for a living. Once you realize that "authority" is a constructed concept usually created and continued in very unequal ways, it gets easy to question it.
IC is different. Mak respects authority to a point. (technically, most of the characters respect authority to a point. The difference is where that point is.)
