Report for 1095

Large revolts have occurred in all frontier regions of the Empire, which include Zagreb, Belgrade, Bucharest, Sinop, and Antioch. Each one is in need of reinforcements, and assembling those reinforcements was the focus during this year.

Military Affairs

Since this term will focus on consolidation, and to encourage cooperation between the houses, I will deliver my military reports split by region, not by house. Let me define the following regions:

Α. Interior - Constantinople, Thessalonike, Athens, Arta, Corinth
Β. Danubian Frontier - Zagreb, Belgrade, Bucharest
Γ. Western Frontier - Dyrrakhion, Scopia
Δ. Eastern Frontier - Dardanellia, Smyrna, Rhodes
Ε. Pontic Frontier - Nicaea, Sinop
Η. Syria - Antioch, Nicosia
Ζ. Sea - Black, Aegean, Ionian, Eastern Med

If a region is not reported on, no noteworthy action occurred.

Danubian Frontier

The Danubian frontier was the most affected by the revolts, which happened at Zagreb, Belgrade, and Bucharest. In total, about 4500 rebels were split about evenly between those cities, with the total Imperial forces totaling about 550 at Bucharest, 130 at Belgrade, and 24 at Zagreb.

Bucharest was in best shape, being outnumbered only by about 3 to 1, and Basileus Alexios attacked the rebel army gathered near Bucharest. He inflicted significant casualties and retreated to the city. Apionnas Vringas will bring reinforcements from the capital, and Ioannis Kantakouzions will come from the north with mercenaries.

I have not heard anything from Anastasios Neokaisareitis who commands a weak garrison at Belgrade. I fear he may have been besieged without a chance to escape. I will be arriving from the south, and most of the western resources will be put into quickly converging on Belgrade if Neokaisareitis does indeed remain in the city. Savvas ek Militou also comes from the south with 630 men, but is a great distance away.

Zagreb has been abandoned by Methodios Tagaris.

Pontic Frontier

An army roughly 1500 in strength has gathered near Sinop, which was defended by Pavlos Chrysovergos with 370 men. He has withdrawn from the city to east, though I don't know what he expects to find there except Turks, for it is not possible to pass to Trebizond by the coast, and no ships are deployed in the Black Sea.

Caesar Ioannis comes from Nicaea with a total of 380 men after mercenaries were added to his army.

Syria

Syria has also experienced a revolt also of about 1500 men. The army in Antioch is under command of Makedonios Ksanthopoulos with 870 men, which is the largest army behind the strongest walls that we have. The other generals have encamped outside of the city.

Interior

Recruitment was started in the west to provide later reinforcements, while all standing troops (except minimum garrisons) have been scrambled to the north to provide immediate relief. Mercenaries were added this year only to ek Militou's and the Caesar's army, but more will be recruited next turn. The funds were more than sufficient for recruitment, and the bottleneck was the speed with which men could be trained.

Civilian Affairs

With permission of Methodios Tagaris, Zagreb has been sold to the Hungarians. The agreed price was 10,000 florins, which was delivered immediately. The Megas Logothetes thanks our good Hungarian allies for their cooperation in our time of need.

Construction was started in each idle settlement.

The finances are in good shape, and the Empire looks to profit by about 3000 florins thanks to the Hungarians, despite heavy recruitment and construction.

Save will be made available by TinCow after he has commanded the rebel AI at the end of the turn. The 24 hour period will start at that time.
