    Default Whey Protein

what are your thoughts on these products? They have been reccommended to me by my gym partner and he described them as priceless. Apparently they aid torn muscles caused by weight lifting without being drugs.

No more than 3 times a week or it will cause you serious man boobs. A fellow in my school took whey 4-5 times a week and he ended up with boobs which would make Pamela stay hidden in a dark corner.

Well, IIRC, you need significant estrogen intake to grow breasts. So I wonder whether your friend was taking whey protein or some other unhealthy protein pills with "womanly" ingredients.

Well put. Yes I have no idea how to use that stuff. I wasn't going to have it more than twice a week tbh.

But you can make man boobs easily.

Well I had used a whey-oriented powder which you had to take once or twice a day for one month. And I got no woman boobs. I shall insist that your friend may be a victim of some ill-advised pills.

    I wear D cups.

Adding this to your diet is not necessary for weight lifting. I doubt you are going to compete in Mr. Universe anyway.
Proteins are however necessary for building muscle, but you'll get more than you need from a normal diet.

I know the younger generation believes in these "silver bullets", and by adding all kind of crap to their diet they think this will magically produce more muscles than without.
I'll tell you bluntly. You are just buying into hype. Unless you are seriously going for body building and workout routines with a frequency of several hours a day, you don't need these supplements. The body will only take what it needs and dump the rest with your body waste. In other words, it will keep the good stuff from real food and your expensive protein powder will end up in the toilet.

You should be more concerned about having enough energy to fuel these processes; again I am in the opinion that no supplement is needed. Just eat what you want when you want, when you do a fair amount of training.
The hypertrophy will be a result of sufficient energy and rest. Just make sure you have proteins on your diet in the form of meats and fish. If you crave sweets after training, it is a reason for it. Your body need to replenish its glycogen and fast sugars is great for it, and it also stimulates the protein synthesis necessary for muscle hypertrophy.

Whey is just another protein source and it does the job fine to be honest. But for the love of all that you hold holy do NOT buy the whey from Body Fortress that you linked to. It is the worst tasting, worst mixing and most genuinesly terrible protein I've ever bought/consumed.

I have to agree with Sigurd Fafnesbane on this one. I've been lifting for the past 5 1/2 years, and i really think that that stuff just masks pain, and makes you feel weird. Plus I feel as though that is is not natural even though it is just protein.

I've tried creatine and whey, both in combination, and by themselves. The whey never really seemed to make a difference, I share the same opinion as Sigurd Fafnesbane that if you eat a somewhat healthy diet, you get all the nutrients you need. Creatine just makes you retain water in your muscles,(they look bigger), but when you go off of it you shrink back down to normal, and for me i could not lift as much as when i was on it.

Now i just go natural and eat healthy, get the appropriate amount of rest between workouts (getting the right amount of sleep makes a huge difference), and lift alot when i do go the the gym (at least 2+hours). I get good results from that, and it's what i would recemmond to others.

Whey isn't necessary for building muscle. Ok.

However, unless you eat a proper diet with all the correct protein sources, your gains will be lacking.

Whey is a great protein to consume pre and post work because it absorbs immediately when your body needs protein most.

    Edit:

Btw Eddy, whey does not give you man boobs. Estrogen gives you man boobs. I think your friend is also taking other "supplements"

Whey isnt going to cuase "man boobs". That takes serious estrogen consumption and a poor diet. Your friend was probably taking some other suppliment or soy protien namely low grade soy protien or another form of plant protien. If you are male try to stay away from soy protien suppliments in general, too much estrogen is never a good thing.

Whey isnt necessary if you get protein from other sources. I drink a whey shake every day and take in 350-450 grams of protein on bulking cycles and I dont have any noticeable side effects. Its another food source, and shouldnt be treated with any additional respect or fear then eating larger and more frequent portions of fish.

Balance your protein intake from multiple sources and you will be fine, include whey in that equation.

Can't say I've ever quite seen the point in these things when not going for serious bodybuilding, or at high level sports - and even in the latter case, it's done strictly following the recommendations of the coaches and team physicians. I'm going to have to chime in with the crowd saying that the average weight-lifter or sportsman gets more than enough out of a healthy diet and enough rest, and the mentioned products are superfluous.

    I take protein every day.

    gnc crap

Its supposed to be better than normal whey.

I've definitely gotten bigger, but I'm not sure how much is due to the stuff. I can tell you that it is thoroughly disgusting. No man-boobs though.

Is that normal Whey Protein? I have GNC stuff too, but it just 100% Whey and is not that stuff. By the way, don't buy GNC protein it taste like absolute ****.

I just ordered some Chocolate Mint ON Gold Standard and for the price, I can actually drink it without feeling sick.

Well, if I read it correctly, it has 60 grams of protein per serving, whereas GNC's normal stuff has 20. It also has some other ingredients such as Leucine that supposedly help muscle growth through protein synthesis.

To be honest I was somewhat overwhelmed with the wall of protein at GNC so I asked the guy what the best stuff they had was regardless of price and thats what suggested. Of course it would be a GNC product.

It's actually funny. I did the same thing. The guy offered me some protein which was 40 bucks for 2 lbs which wasn't GNC, but really expensive. I declined and purchased the cheap GNC stuff.

I don't really shop there anymore though. I found their prices at tad high. They do offer good multivitamins though.

Nooooo. As someone who is just starting on weight training whey protien is not necessary however once you want ot add more calories or more protien or both whey becomes vital for two reasons 1. eating all that solid food really isnt all that good for you and 2. its hard to consume enough protien in a day. Not to mention weight training effects everyone diffrently Ive seen guys who need 5000 calories and 300 grams of protien to bulk and then Ive seen guys who need only 2800 calories but as you are just starting the main things you need to do are eat sleep and train like an animal.

As a side note I have found creatine very helpful in recovery times. There are times where I would deadlift less than 24 hrs after my last squat session and belive did creatine save my but then.

Leucine is a branched chained amino acid, and it's found in any whey. Whey is rather heavy in bcaa's which is why it's considered to be more of an anobolic form of protien. Leucine can help with muscle growth, the main problem is that if you are consuming bcaa's during a period of physical activity they will be burned first by the muscle before anything else. The other 2 bcaa's are valine and lsoluecine, always something good to keep an eye out for. They can provide quite alot of muscle growth or quick energy thats up there with dextrose in absorption rates.

Oh and god bless creatine. Just remember to cycle off of it once in awhile.
