I don't get it. Do I type this stuff while I am actually playing the game? If I do, what exactly do I type? Let's say I want to give my imam Mahfouz the Warmonger trait. What EXACTLY do I type?

And how do I access the game console? (Do I need to at all?)

As for what to type, use
give_trait Mahfouz Warmonger 3
