this requires the editing of a few files. i suggest you read the tutorial for adding a new unit to the game here:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=75706

basically, you need to edit export_desrc_unit.txt in your ..\data folder to include england as owners of the Zweihander unit. then, you need to edit battle_model.modeldb in your ..\data\unit_models folder to include england as a country who has access to the Zweihander unit. next, you need to place the appropriate #zweihander.tga file in folder ..\data\ui\units\england. finally, you need to edit export_descr_buildings.txt in the ..\data folder to add england to all the places Zweihander units are built, otherwise you won't be able to build them.

the ..\ stands for your M2TW root directory (the place you have it installed). this is all needed so that you have icons and everything and the look is the same for England as it would be for the HRE. the only issue here is that your units will still wear the HRE meshes, but they will hold your flags. i'm not skilled with re-meshing, so maybe Alpaca can give you some guidance there.

if this all seems to be a little too much and you don't mind having generic unit cards in place of the actual zweihander unit cards, then just edit the export_descr_unit.txt and the export_desrc_buildings.txt files and that should be enough.

What does this actually do in the game? I have edited everything else to what is needed but I harder than heck to read the above file, its all so scrunched together without any real spacing at all. If it is something critical what can i do to make this file more "readable"?

i was wondering if someone could help me out with stuff too. I like to move around a few units here and there, i unpacked the files and tried some stuff out. To test to see if it worked i tried edited edu and gave papal guards 19 attack and ownership to sicily. I then copied entry in edb and pasted their line into all the castles and changed the ownership to sicily. I also put a unit of them into my army in descr_strat.

The unit was in the army, but none of their stats changed and i could build them. I am missing a step somewhere like having to make a mod folder and repack stuff? i just like to make small adjustments here and there. thanks

ok... so ur saying that if i do all that, the zweihander units will have the hre clothes, but have my banner correct?

Also, for all intents and purposes i havent modded at all for m2tw, did a small deal with rtw, made it so all the roman factions could access the gladiators. Thats all i've really done. with that said, do u have any more advice for me on doing this? Didn't say this early enough... but thank you for telling me how to do this, i really appreciate this.

    Correct.

As for how to do all that, you are probably better off reading the tutorial link, as it includes (I think) a step by step guide. It might not contain the unpacking and all, but there's a tutorial for that too by alpaca. Alternatively, you can just search your m2tw folder for the unpacker and read its readme.

yeah, RTW was significantly easier to mod, in my opinion. but i think that while this one is harder to set up and execute, they've given us A LOT more control. so it's a trade off situation.

when you use the unpacker, edit the unpack_all.bat to run this script:

    unpacker.exe --source=..\..\packs\*.pack --destination=..\..\backup --verbosity=1

to edit the .bat file, simply right click on it and chose "edit" from the list. paste the above script over the existing one. this will cause the unpacker to send everything a folder in your root M2TW directory called BACKUP. that way you fuX0r while trying to haX0r (if i can be a little nerdy for the moment ).

once you've unpacked everything, follow the tutorial link to learn how to edit the files appropriately. keep back ups of everything handy, and test frequently. that way if you CTD, you just have go back and review the last thing you did, instead of everything.

i remember i tried to edit my characters, cities, units, and buildings one time and didn't save and test frequently. i tried to start up and it CTD'd. i had NO idea where the error was because i had done so much. after an hour and a half of modding, i had to start all over. that was the day i learned to do one step at a time and then test it = )
