Very very very exciting new right now.

Apparently, at the opening ceremonies of the WWI at Paris about a few hours ago, Diablo III has been officially announced!!!!!

    Edit:

There was a game demo like what they did for Starcraft II shown. The game is in 3d with an isometric view. A barbarian was shown using whirlwind and leap attack. There is a new class coming out which is called the witch-doctor that can summon minions/mind control his enemies among other things.

    Edit:

Finally, here is a picture from a teaser video

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Check out the awesome video that has now replaced the splash screen

LOL, 3rd Edit in like 30 minutes

Link to official Diablo III page which is up on blizzard.com now

It contains a teaser as well as the gameplay video shown at the Paris WWI

Looks like a gift to the weaker systems. Not too much wizardry, excellent.

I dunno... I'm sure Blizzard will sell a bazillion copies, but it's not grabbing my interest this time around (I played 1 and 2, mostly in co-op LAN mode with my S.O.). I like my games to have at least some minimal tactics in the combat, like use of terrain and doorways. The gameplay video with the barbarian whirling around through the zombies looked like just a mindless, hyperactive click-fest.

    Click-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)...

That's not my kind of game. But maybe it's more interesting than it looks from the video. Or maybe I'm just getting too old for this type of game. I'll try a demo if one is released, but I'm for sure not pre-ordering or buying it on release, without knowing more about the gameplay.

You have played Diablo before, right? That's kind of the point, mindless clicky choppy fun. It's for taking a break from proper grown-up games to brainlessly hack at some zombies.

Looks quite like a slightly improved WC3 engine to me.

Isometric view and all that? Huh? What? How dares Blizzard go against that trend of bringing RPG's in first or third person? What the hell is going on? If I remember it right all those RPG's with isometric views in the 90's were garbage, right? And now seriously, isn't so that the isometric view is "gay"?

I think it's the same engine that Starcraft 2 is using.
The water effect looks just like it.

True, but it looks to me like the combat speed has been ramped up a few more notches from the prior games, and those were already pretty hectic. And my fingers aren't as fast as they used to be.

Then again, maybe you don't have to blast through each dungeon room as fast as the guy was doing in the gameplay video.

Blizzard sure knows what they're doing. Don't fix it if it isn't broken. They're going to make a ton of money... again.

That is the special thing about Diablo. If anyone gives me a description of Diablo II gameplay right now and I had no previous knowledge of the game, I would think that the game is utter crap. The weird thing is that even though it may sound bad with lots of aimless clicking and grinding for the uber items, the game is strangely addictive.
