The next big war will inevitably see the large-scale use of nuclear weapons, in the same way that WW2 saw the use of all the new weapons that came in at the end of WW1. (tanks, bombers, etc)

If anyone has played DEFCON, then you'll know as well as me that when the missiles start flying, there is very little hope. In a massive full scale nuclear war, even with the imaginary defences in the game, over half the missiles still get in. Deathtolls reach the tens of millions. No one wins. Everyone loses.

Well, sure, if you're carrying around a negative attitude like that, I guess you can't win a nuclear exchange. Why not turn that "can't" into a "can" and see how much better that makes it? Remember, it takes more muscles to frown than to smile, and cheerful people always win.

Im not a expert but..

Right now North Korea is being the buffer area between America/South Korea and China. Soon as North Korea is gone im guessing they may be war.

Now looking at the military

America is undoubtedly the no. 1 in war. Jumping in pretty much every war in another country, they are most experienced. They are most suited for large scale invasion if they are fighting big country like China.

China is huge. But their army got a serious problem. One child policy combined with traditional Asian idea of family.The fact that if their only son die they will be no others who can continue their family will be the burden for the Chinese.

Also it seems that America is slowly starting to get into WWII style surrounding their enemy with allies. With Japan, Korea (maybe united Korea when North Korea is gone), Taiwan, India and possibly Russia on their side, China will be easily defeated. China is having trouble securing resources like fuels and energy, unlike America who got strong relationship with Mid east oil countries.

Although America is also in somewhat similar situation, Chinese people are not very obedient like the Japanese were in WWII. They possess couple rebellion issue like Tibet and recent revolt resulting torching one of the police station, Communist party will soon be torn apart and China will be divided in couple of countries in couple of years. Americas pacifist movement is also getting big but this can be solved by jailing a couple of peoples.

Assuming that North Korea vanishes, war will probably start by China invading Korea and Taiwan simultaneously. This will most likely end with failure to capture Taiwan (taking a Island is somewhat hard..) and Americans landing on Korea.

America will probably defeat China unless Russia decides to help China.

Being a nuke country, this war could end up by China shooting America and their allies like crazy which will completely wipe out everyone on the pacific. Knowing that, its going to be interesting how America will act in WWIII

Now in that scenario, both Americans and the Chinese (Taiwan too..) will not be the winner. Real winner will probably be Israel.

America has been defeating multiple strong mid eastern countries recently which could stand up against the might of Israelite army. Israel has a extremely high moral army with advanced equipment. Unless in nuclear situation, there will be no one who can match Israel in the mid east. Also Jewish people are incredibly smart and has influences in many power house countries. In WWIII it will most likely end up in their favor.

Russia is also interesting. I wonder if they go invading Europe randomly. If so, could Euro alliance stand up against the Russians?

In Armageddon situation Switzerland and few of the Northern Europe countries will survive and Australia + Kiwi Land will be a paradise for everyone.

I just thought up of those scenarios on top of my head so..

WTF ?!?! Lemur's jokes aside, how does one 'win' a nuclear war anyway. In the midst of Cold War paranoia in the early 80's, the best they could ever say was that our nuclear winter patch of rock would be safe for democracy, when we finally could come out of the bunkers in 500 years.
