    Default Venetian Heavy Infantry

    Hey guys...

Pretty sure I'm going to be rolling a Venice campaign starting tonight...quick question though:

Venetian Heavy Infantry- In custom battles these are listed as a late period unit. This surprises me a little as I got the impression that they were available "relatively soon". Not if they show up in the last time period the game covers.

Is this accurate? I would assume that since they're listed as a late period unit in custom battles, it is...but I do know that occassionally in TW the campaign units operate a little differently.

Can anyone clarify that they require a barracks (simply enough) but that a Venice player has to wait until the late period to recruit them?

    Thanks

Only a barracks is needed, nothing else.

Early/High/Late refers to an approximation of how many turns it may take to get a castle to that state. Not really accurate though.

Oh ok...so the custom battle periods are a rough guide huh?

So the game starts @ 1080. Hypothetically, if I had a barracks up by 1090- I can begin recruiting Venetian Heavy Inf?

    Thanks

    Cool and thanks again...

For the record- Yeah I'm looking at some sites now and see there's no way I'll be up to a castle barracks in 10 years lol. Still, it's good to know.

I think that the VHI are only recruitable from cities with barracks - not castles.

    They are castle units.

You pretty much need a citadel (Lv. 5 castle) with a barracks (Lv. 5 inf. recruitment) before you can recruit Venetian Heavy Infantry, so you'll be well into your campaign before you recruit them. Before you can get them, though, a mix of Italian Spear Militia, and some Dismounted Feudal Knights once you get good castle ready, is all that you'll really need. Don't overlook the Venetian Archers either- heavy armored missile troops.

Hold on, I'll check my completed Venice campaign and let you know exactly what level.

EDIT: I was wrong, you only need a fortress, and the barrack is only a tier 4 building. Still won't be seeing them for a while, considering slow castle growth + troop recruitment detracting from population

Training troops does not cost population unless you modded it to be that way.

What, seriously? I never noticed that. Does it only work that way for castles, or is it the same for cities, too? I guess I've been playing too much RTW (EB) lately- if you recruit too many troops there, I'm sure you remember, it becomes a drain on your population as well as your economy.

In RTW only does recruitment cost population. In M2TW it doesn't unless you make it so.

How can you mod it in, that recruitment decreases population and disbanding adds to population? In RTW, I managed population this way, at least to some extent.

And Durazzo suddenly is a worthy province...

Thanks. That number would be the inhabitants the settlement loses?
Seems like some work - to do it for each unit. Not sure if I'm going to try it.

You can easily fix the graphical bug of the armour upgrades by changing their sequence in the EDU:

    Code:
    armour_ug_models Venetian_Archers, Venetian_Archers_ug1
    should read:
    armour_ug_models Venetian_Archers_ug1, Venetian_Archers
The same goes for Retinue Longbows or any other unit with this kind of bug.
Or you could rename the models themselves of course.

This is helpful actually...as I had no idea this was removed in M2TW.

I guess with the ability to recruit multiple units from a settlement per turn, it would really throw population out of whack.
