Thread: Total Medieval War compatible with Vista?

Default Total Medieval War compatible with Vista?

    Hi,

I just found this cool game in my drawer and wanted to play it. However, it breaks down just when it seems to have loaded the sequence of the campaign. Do you know, if the reason is Vista and if yes, do you know a patch or something I can do?
    Thank you in advance.

Which version of the game are you playing, first of all? MTW? Got VI? Gold Edition? Got the latest patches? You might want to visit totalwar.com and check out the Support section for MTW: http://www.totalwar.com/

If you haven't got VI, I recommend searching around for it. It won't be expensive. Or just go by the Gold Edition version, which you then patch up to 2.01 (by copying and pasting the .exe you download in the patch over the original game .exe) - it's very cheap these days. I can get it for £7.99 delivered from Play.com (even had to order a new disc because the old one has cracks in it).

Second, visit this thread for some invaluable solutions to the CTD issue you are faced with: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=79500

You might want to scroll to the bottom of that thread, because a very important discovery has been made concerning the map CTD issues. So important that the problem was two of the buttons used on the campaign map, and a modification altered the relevant files in such a way as to wipe out the CTD problem. You can download the two files from a link in that thread, replace the originals, and have free reign of the campaign map again.

Are you also having mouse-over issues with the battlemap? There are a number of solutions for that, especially post #166 in this thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=69367

Unfortunately, I can't fix the mouse-over bug for myself. On the other hand, I've found the radar map still works, so with a modified formations file, I now improvise so I can play battles. But it obviously won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Also, welcome to the Main Hall. I'm sure you'll have heaps of fun playing this game. *Tongue in cheek* Unfortunately, amongst the enemy factions you will slaughter in your conquest over Europe, Medieval II (especially!), and to a lesser extent, Rome: Total War, are not included.

Some people have had issues using Vista while playing this game, ending up with unresolvable issues. But I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet, there is no harm in at least trying to get the game to work, even on Vista.

I believe in a society without rules, laws and regulations. A society where there are only ideas - strict ideas that must be followed to by the letter - and any failure to comply is punishable by death. This would be no dictatorship or police state, no one would be living in terror. It would merely be a 'reassessment of one's preferences,' people living in 'not-so-optimistic security.' So, welcome, those who are 'longing to be blindly obedient and loyal, unbeknownst to them.'

    Welcome to the Org, Teci.

I can't really think of any advice to offer beyond what Kaidonni already has. Some people can't get the game to run with Visa, and some have. Either way, I wish you luck!

I play VI on VISTA with no problems. I actually get better game play but that could be the new computer having better graphics card.

    Good luck to you.

Just out of curiosity, what processor/video card combo are you using?

    Same here.

Drone- for me, I have an ATI Radeon 2600 HD graphics card, and an intel core 2 duo, 2.4 ghz processor.

Whenever I upload MTW Gld Edition, I end up with a message saying there's an error, but I can bypass it, however, I never see the opening. This is on XP Home.
