How does the morale effect work ?
Does it need to be manned for it to work ? or does it work still if the guards have gone fighting elsewhere ?
Thx

It has to be manned I think, though to be fair I never tested that part.
The crew never routs though, even when unmanned.

I actually don't think it has to be manned, though I haven't tested comprehensively either, I just have always parked the thing immediately and used the soldiers at the front. In my experience if you put one (unmanned) on a flank that side will hold longer than the other.
It should be fairly easy to test if you have any saves around where you can take one against a Mongol general with some town militia.

Im not entirely sure does it have to be manned, but goddamn it can save your ass, i was playing with Milanese and got Carroccio Stand (basicly the same) i was totally underpowered with 4 armored Sergeants protecting bridgehead, 2 Carroccios behind them and 4 Milanese Crossbowmen behind them, 1 and ½ stack came over, gladly moron AI didn´t send straightforward cavalry charge or i could have routed, but they stood there and killed the enemy one by one until 1 routed and caused domino effect.
