Default How to fix the U.N.

U.N. in its current state is largely a joke. A powerless, toothless organization incapable doing much more than wagging its finger at the bad guys. The way I see it, there are 5 problems with the U.N. and here they are (in no particular order): Russia, USA, China, France, England. Any meaningful decision in the security council is bound to create a conflict of interests between the permanent seat holders and provoke a veto.

Solution: abolish veto powers for all members or at the very least provide a reliable way of overriding vetoes. 1 country == 1 vote, no strings attached.

Absolute veto power needs to be abolished, and the security council expanded to include India and Brazil. 3/4 majority to pass a resolution.

Until all are one there will be no such thing as a “united nations”. I think it is best that we all just keep throwing money at it and hope it goes away. The only good an organization like this can hope to do is send relief to areas in trouble. Think of all the politicking that plagues your country and multiply it by 192, the number of members, and you get an unfixable mess that no one really pays too much attention to. I would rather support the red cross.

I think it serves its purpose. I mean, where else can some goat herder from a third world crap hole and get some fine New York hooker while scoring some drugs and swindle a load of money. The UN is the place to be.

A situation: The new UN decides to vote that the UN should be freed. China says no. What happens? For the UN to be more than the spineless non entity it is now something would have to be done. Fat chance.

Create a "League of Democratic States" and then dissolve the U.N. The only States which will be able to vote are democracies, but all states will be present. Pretty much a U.N. that works better and actually represents people.

How does one decide whether a country is democratic or not? No country do people vote on all issues. North Korea calls itself a democracy. Do they get a vote?

Pushing the others out will only make them band together more closely, and they probably will have more will to put their citizens lives in danger - hence act more often.

UN's primary role is to stop WWIII.

Everything else is just a sideshow.
