Alright need more help...
After installing 1.2 and vanilla mod when ever i try and fight in a battle it 'encounters an unknown error'

Right, can you please confirm following:
1. WinXP or Vista
2. What version of VM
3. Got the emergency fix?
4. Running in main folder or modfolder?
5. Ever unpacked your game?

I upacked how it told me to in install instructions in the winrar file
and upacked my game?

Hmmm.
Have you read this thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103698 ? First post has all relevant information. To be sure, please redownload the emergency fix from the link in that thread and overwrite existing files with it.
Then, please post a screenshot of your m2tw folder (not your VM folder)
Search your hard drive for:
data\descr_geography_new.txt
data\descr_geography_new.db
If you have them, delete them.
