I am noticing that in custom battles it seems to not allow me to upgrade any unit's armor or weapon past the first upgrade. You can upgrade armor once, weapon once. Yet I almost definitely recall playing custom battles with silver/gold upgrades.
How does the custom battle system work with armor? Is this the same in MP?
Thanks

Yep- I think they took that off after RTW. The only thing you can upgrade to Silver and Gold is the Chevrons. As for armor & Weps that will stay as bronze.

Thanks for the response Lancome...
No disrespect to you (none, it's my meticulousness) but can someone confirm this?
I don't mind it or anything ...but again, I could have sworn I had some custom battles going when I set the florins value @ 1,000,000 (max) in which I had silver armor on units. But I'm positive that even 30,000 florins wouldn't allow it last night no matter how hard I tried. I've done like 100 custom battles in the past few days and just don't recall exactly whether that was with this game or if I'm just so used to setting gold chevrons in total war games.
Thanks

You are sure that it is units that can be upgraded that far? As far as I can tell units can only get their armor upgraded in custom battle just as far as they can in the campaign. So for instance a Pike Militia can be upgraded further then some Peasant Archers. Atleast that is how it is for me, and while I'm unsure wether or not I actually have the latest patch I find it unlikely that it has been changed.

Upgrades are the same as in campaign.

When you check the final stats of the fully upgraded custom unit, you'll find they match the stats of the fully-upgraded unit in the campaign map. I think it just doesn't take as many steps as it seems to in the campaign map where you're slowly upgrading the armourer series.

Some units can have their armor upgraded fully, mostly militia units (spear, town, halberd and pike), but I think you only get one weapon upgrade.

Units can only get 1 weapon upgrades. Some units can have gold armour e.g. Spear Militia, Sargent Spearmen, though gold is very rare and most can only get to silver and bronze.

Playing around with this a little more just a minute ago and it just seems really illogical with no rhyme or reason.
Right, Levy Spearman can get gold armor, ...yet very few others can. Crossbowmen can get silver and sergeant spearman get silver yet I can't find any other units that can get anything other than bronze.
And no weapons for any units above bronze, as has already been said in the thread.
I don't see how this system makes any sense whatsoever. Why do crossbowmen and levy spearman have better armor than Knights? How silly considering the unit has a lower defense.

Well those that can be upgraded to gold armor doesn't start with any armor whatsoever, so they even when fully upgraded won't have the same quality armor an unupgraded knight have, as an example Mailed Knights start with light chainmail, for a Levy Spearmen to get there he need 2 upgrades, first to padded, then light chainmail, so 2 upgrades to get to same level of armor as the Knights, and still the knights still have better armor (5 vs 2 IIRC), with an additional upgrade to heavy chainmail the knights have 6 armor and the spears 3, and they are now as upgraded as they can be, and this is compared to the most lightly armored Knight, all other knights start with even better armor, and while Armored Sergeants also start with good armor, they can't get many upgrades like the levy blokes.
I feel it is logical, but it really only gets appearent in the campaign, in custom battles it may not seem quite as logical though. Should note that in the campaigns of the Kingdoms expansion, units that start with armor start with the same value as an unarmored unit that has been upgraded all the way there unlike the standard campaign.

Yeah I see what you're saying...and I guess it does make sense in it's own sort of way...
Still, I liked the old system better. It's a custom battle and we should be able to "customize" it without limitations.
