From 508 BCE until 1453 CE, The Roman civilization ruled through brutal conquest, practiced enslavement of the conquered populace, engaged in forced conscription, torture and bloody mass executions, ritual and spectacle human sacrifice and forced gladiatorial combat. The Emperors were known to live rich, extravagant lives filled with excess, greed, gluttony, wrath, sloth, and the most sickening and disturbing sexual practices recorded from that period of history, (see: Caligula) they murdered and conquered their way from the modern-day British Isles to the edge of Parthia, and for approximately 2000 years oppressed most of mediterranean Europe.

Come to think of it, the Byzantines aren't so bad after all!
