Greetings everyone.
I shall provide a short primer on the purpose of this poll for those of you that are baffled over this. Over the last few days, Ichigo and Hax have been undergoing a meme war in the chatroom, each with staunch support for their side. Naturally, this has been rather annoying to the other inhabitants of the chat, so I decided to step in and provide a solution to this issue. I suggested that a frontroom poll be constructed to finally settle the score between these two. You may think my aim is that this poll will stop the conflict. You would be wrong. I want this poll to escalate it to a bitter, violent conflagration that leaves no corner of the internet and soon the entire earth safe from its burning wrath. The stock market is crashing, my job search is tedious and depressing, the weather's getting cold, and the Detroit Lions can't win a single game. It's time to end this charade called a planet, and I now have the weapon to achieve this. Doomsday is now approaching. There will be no escape.

Desu is almost never actually used outside of business or semi-formal situations such as speaking to a boss or older member of someone else's family. I guess the train and bus announcers use it too, but that's basically business.
I honestly don't know why it crops up in anime so much. It's one of those mysteries like villains calling themselves "oresama" which is super arrogant and unrealistic in real speech.
