Top Ten Cars to Avoid on the Road

Here's a helpful roundup of the cars favored by retirees (don't you call them "pensioners" in the U.K.?). If you see one of these cars weaving on the road, doing 45 mph in a 60 mph zone, exercise extreme caution.

Yeah, no kidding. I have so many complaints about seniors driving on the roads that it really pisses me off. Either they go waaay too fast, or faaar too slow. Moreover, they can't even drive in a straight line!

This one time I saw some useless old man driving in a bike lane, honking his horn at the bikers to get out of the way! OMG, I WAS SO PISSED!!! Learn the rules of the road, you old piece of rotting flesh!

PS: Sorry for the rant.

Don't see many of those cars here, infact out of those I think the only one I've seen is the Toyota Avalon.

My grandfather is in his 70's. He used to have a 4 wheel drive that i have fond memories of being driven in at nearly 100mph down a dual carriageway.

Hardly a stereotypical elderly driver.

If you see a 2003 red Ford Escape with a young teen brunette behind the wheel & an old guy with a terrified look on his face in the passenger seat careening down a road near you.....get out the way. I'm giving my daughter her first driving lessons.

My father owns #1, and used to own #3. Though he's not retired yet, he modeled his buying trends on those of his (recently late) great uncle.

BTW, if you want to learn how to parallel park, it's good to learn on a car like #3. Now I can park my car in a pothole.

The Toyota Avalon seems a little out of place in that list. Maybe it's because it's the only foreign car in the mix, but I wouldn't have picked it as an old person's car. The others are spot on.

All I know is that when the neighbor's grandparents come to visit, there's always a Toyota Avalon parked in the driveway. So I have direct evidence of one elderly couple driving it.

I have no knowledge of cars, so I could not tell which cars are which. I brand anyone driving slow as old.

My father in law (early 60's) drives #3. He used to drive exclusively Ford LTD's. Oddly enough, he's completely enamored with my mother in law's Camry, and plans on getting one of those next.

They are known as 'sunday drivers' over here, the kind that seem to think the speed limit is just a guide and they are far safer going 1/2 or 3/4 of the speed limit with a que of angry drivers behind them...

80% of the time its old people.... and quite often they have nice sporty cars...

Anything SUV-like driven by someone with no Y-chromosomes in them I am mortaly scared off.

What I hate:

i) People that were drafted for the Trojan war and tend to drive in the middle lanes doing 70 kilometers per hour causing accidents behind them but getting cheap insurance.

ii) People who bought SUV's but think they are the size of the space shuttle so they center them on the line dividing two lanes, effectively blocking them both. They also use two spaces to park.

iii) People who , when their cell rings they drop by default from 140 to 70 in an instant and then remain oblivious on the qeue behind them

iv) Trucks that take 4 kilometers to overtake on a 2 lane road

iv) The 3 people this year who dented my car while it was parked and didnt bother to leave a bloody note. I hope they catch something that will require a visit to a proctologist.



I do about 50.000 kms per year , mostly on highways and It sometimes really gets on my nerves

I get this at work occasionally, usually some new SUV taking up two spots close in (official "new car parking" is at the far reaches of the lot, as it has always been). Since my car is both small and old, I usually fit it into the space on the driver's side (after taking down the plate #), giving me both a quick walk in and smug satisfaction at the same time. I'm a bit of a when it comes to parking etiquette.

I do much the same thing, although I don't restrict myself to just new cars. *Anytime* a car is obnoxiously parked so that it's almost taking up two spaces, I'll do my level best to park on the driver's side -- usually so that I'm less than a foot away, and they then have to go in through the passenger side door.
